It appears Smash Bros Brawl, now with an added dose of Sonic the Hedgehog, may follow in Japan's footsteps and be delayed, possibly until next year (Nintendo confirmed last night Japan's Brawl delay to January 24, 2008). The official Brawl website now lists the release date as the dreaded TBD, which as we wall know stands for "Total Bummer / Downer."
We've contacted Nintendo for a statement on the matter.

I don't know Sonic the Hedgehog 2006 was a good game for something rushed...I am so sorry I said that...

On the plus side, now the Mother 3 translation guys have a little more time to try to get their patch out before all the EarthBound fans start jumping up and down and yelling about the spoilers.
In fact, maybe Nintendo delayed SSBB because they're working on an _official_ M3 release in English. Come on, big N! All it takes is one announcement!

Come on Galaxy, smash, and wii fit all before christmas? Never happening.
Come on Galaxy alone is enough to hold you over till smash. Then factor in wii fit before christmas and it would be bad enough finding a wii.
Nintendo doesnt want sales of galaxy hampering brawl and fit.

They delayed Metroid Prime 3 for a year and it was definitely worth the wait. I don't see a delayed 1st party Nintendo game as a problem.. EVER!

Pft, I can't say I wasn't excited for this game, but I figure if they need to push it back to fix some stuff then go on ahead. Personally it makes me more excited for it and I know I'll get my moneys worth... times 10. It's not even that bad to wait anyways, what with all the other great titles coming out this season? I'll be able to last.

In a way, I'd be releaved if it's delayed...
If Brawl comes out before Christmas, I'm sure every Christmas party I will go to will be completely taken over by Brawl! I'll have to pre-order a copy just to make it available at my Christmas party, and I'll have to fit some time into my busy pre-Christmas schedule to learn how to play the game. Logistically, a Christmas without Brawl will be a lot easier... all a party needs is a couple guitar controllers and food.

That was a clever move. Everybody's so distracted looking at Sonic's profile they don't even notice the "TBD" being added.
Clever move Nintendo. Clever indeed. This must be their way of saying "Okay, it's going to be late. Sorry. But hey look. It DOES have Sonic. So it'll be totally worth it!"
Makes me wonder though if they'll still keep up Daily Updated on the Blog once the original release date has passed. With Sonic's appearance in the game no longer a secret, you've got to wonder what surprises Brawl will still hold by the time it launches.
I always figured they'd let Sonic in Brawl be one of those surprises left for the gamer, since it wouldn't need his inclusion publicized in order to sell copies. Now they may leave gamers thinking "If this is what's public...imagine what could be secret still!"
So all this time they've been working to keep hype from overtaking the game, but now they've actually revealed something so "big" that people's expectations for potential secrets will be higher than before.

Well Sonic being in the game was pretty much a no-brainer, once we saw Snake. I really doubt anyone is surprised about the blue guy.

Nintendo fans must be used to this by now. Plus, next years lineup might benefit from it. Why have Brawl come out after Galaxy is released not even a month before? From a business perspective, it might make sense to wait... though they'd miss a holiday rush.
I think they know gamers will buy up great games in mass regardless of the time of year. As a gamer, it sucks... as a business, it might just work out.

a ha!
maybe their adding online tournaments!?
seriously, this was supposed to be a launch title.
im all for making the game the best it can be, etc etc etc, but seriously, just give us a date (even if its 09!) and quit giving us hope.
id like to point out that there hasn't been a single demo, and its been 2 years. guess subspace emissary must be really freaking awesome.

Does this actually suprise anyone? Whenever Nintendo gives a release date add 6 to 18 months and there you go, the actual release date.

I still have hope for December.
Perhaps they are releasing it later in Japan because they are releasing wii fit for the holidays. Maybe it will be the other way around here in the states.

No Brawl = Time for Fire Emblem, Mario & Sonic, and NiGHTS 2
But that also means no Brawl

Delays don't always mean a game will be better. I mean look at Zelda TP. Had to be the worst Zelda I ever beat. But then again maybe it was way worse and thats why they kept delaying it.

B-B-But didn't they say at E3 that it would come out "not next year, nor next spring, but this...December" (or something like that)? Or was this for another game?
Does that make Fuisamei-san a liar?!!
Hmm, perhaps Nintendo will do a global launch and break Halo3's release date record. They know a ton of Wiis will be sold for Christmas, and those new system owners will be hungry for new content.
