It appears Smash Bros Brawl, now with an added dose of Sonic the Hedgehog, may follow in Japan's footsteps and be delayed, possibly until next year (Nintendo confirmed last night Japan's Brawl delay to January 24, 2008). The official Brawl website now lists the release date as the dreaded TBD, which as we wall know stands for "Total Bummer / Downer."
We've contacted Nintendo for a statement on the matter.

I'd rather have them delay the game to make sure it's good than have them release it on time with major bugs and game breaking exploits.
I'm just saying.

@ Benor: Mmyess. Just like what happened with Zelda TP. The game was delayed several times, but when it came out, it was, in one word... epic.
The same will happen to Brawl. Yes, it has(or maybe has not) been delayed, but remember, waiting for something is worth at the end, and I'm totally sure Brawl will be worth in the end, after waiting so many time for it to come out.
I know some people will disagree with my comment, but I don't really mind. Everybody has different opinions. Those were my two cents.

I don't care if the game gets delayed for a whole year. I'll play the thing for at least 10.

AWWW Man. I was hoping to play BRAWL this year. I just hope for whatever the reason for its delay is because Nintendo wants to impove it.

At first, I thought this was crazy, because it means they'd miss XMas. Then, I thought a little more, and realized that Galaxy is the big XMas seller anyway. The only people who have heard of SSB are the gamers themselves, not the people buying gifts for them.

heyyyy! maybe they're delaying it to add some options to the damage meter, like being able to make it transparent, or smaller, or move it to the sides/top of the screen?

To add online play? Does it already have online play?

I was afraid of this. Nintendo's already stated they don't have enough Wiis to meet demand for the holidays, so why fire off their biggest franchise when they're already selling at maximum capacity? Still, it would be nice for the rest of us who'll be bored after Super Mario Galaxy.

Nothing kills a killer app like not having any systems to play it on. It makes 'money' sense. Brawl can sell another million systems. Gotta have enough systems to sell though.

ahaha... just watched the video and yah.. sonic is fail >_> Good thing they let you pick the music for the stages now...
My guess for the US release is february, personally... if they delayed it in japan, why would it come out earlier in the US? Hopefully they're tweaking for online lag, they did say that would have to be an issue player would have to deal with in the post about it, so maybe this is extra time to fix that instead of leaving it laggy

Why the delay? What so hard about porting a game to basically the same hardware. This game was annouced 18 months ago. Traded in SSB for this preorder! Super Smash Brother Bummer!

Maybe it was fool-hearted on our part, but all of my pals from college are coming down to VA for an entire weekend CENTERED around the release of this freakin' game. We were gonna sit around, eat, drink, and play video games (read: SMash Bros) just like old times... but now... *shakes head in disappointment*

Hey, samfish, Me and Mr. Benjamin Franklin want to talk to you about a *ahem* little arrangement out back about your title...

And yes 'tis somewhat disconcerting but whatever. The awesomeness of the Sonic trailer, however, takes some of the edge off. (I've got the song looping in my head, is that a bad thing?)

Wow, lots of whining going on. The game is delayed. Get over it. A delay can only mean better work. Do you really want to play a game that has been rushed? Has any rushed game EVER turned out good?
