Video Games Live shows scheduled for 25 cities
Video game concert series Video Games Live announced 25 new shows across the US today, with a couple in Canada and one in London, England. Tickets are on sale now for most of the shows. The newly designed concert now includes music from Halo 3, BioShock, Conan, and StarCraft II.
A list of venues can be found after the break. If you've never attended a Video Games Live concert it's definitely worth it. Although composers like Beethoven, Mozart and Vivaldi are tired, if Video Games Live plays Chopin from Eternal Sonata does that make him hip again? Hmmm. Anyway, Video Games Live is a recommendable evening of entertainment to attend when it comes to your city.

As I live close to where the Orlando, FL performance will be, I will be giving my money away to them.
(And only wish I could be up there playing with them.)
Phil @ Oct 10th 2007 8:00PM
Oh come on ! Give Québec,Canada some love !
generic @ Oct 10th 2007 8:48PM
And Ottawa. I'm sick of seeing Toronto as the end-all be all of Eastern-Canadian venues.
Hell, it'd even make sense if Montreal was on there instead of Ottawa, but just Toronto?
Blah.
me_inside @ Oct 10th 2007 8:12PM
Dumb question but what is the dress code for these things especially if they take place in an opera house?
JanJan @ Oct 10th 2007 9:11PM
Dress up in your best homemade Spartan suit
andregalan @ Oct 11th 2007 1:14AM
Well, I attended the show at The Kennedy Center, with the National Symphony Orchestra. The dress-code is nonexistant, but you'd likely benefit from the sort of decent street clothes that you'd wear any day you're being sociable.
Flyy (NDF) @ Oct 10th 2007 8:15PM
What's with the mid-west favoritism?
Show the eastern seaboard some love!

There are a ton of videos of these performances on YouTube. They look really amazing. Check out the Sonic medley, they have an actual chorus singing the "Sega" start-up jingle before the orchestra gets into it. Some of their orchestrations are really fantastic, especially for classic games like Chrono Trigger.
My only problem with these concerts is that they tend to attract the sorts of idiots that will be hooting and hollering throughout the entire performance, especially when music from a game like Halo is being played.
For a completely different experience, check out a competing series of concerts called "Play!", which tour internationally. They tend to attract the kind of audience that would much rather sit still, listen, and appreciate the music, rather than treat the whole thing like a circuis performance for frat boys. Videos of these concerts are all over YouTube, too, and their choice of songs seem to actually be much better, too.

there's 1 in my city in 3 weeks that's sold out, and another TBA. weird
there's a song from guitar hero? lol

It's finally coming to Orlando!! I can't wait.
def PD @ Oct 10th 2007 8:40PM
When's the friggin' NYC show going to be announced?!?!?
I haven't check the site so if it's already up there I apologize. I figure it would've been posted here if it was announced. =P
Grey Fox @ Oct 10th 2007 8:44PM
Where's Winnipeg damn it?!
MrBlank @ Oct 10th 2007 9:09PM
Ugh ... I've been to one and the music was awful. Even if it was good, it would be ruined by all the self-congratulatory fan service. Everyone cheers for their favorite game, but they have no idea who composed the music. I'd save my money.
Neebs @ Oct 10th 2007 9:41PM
One day, people will acknowledge Virginia Beach as a place with a convention center, a beach, and a nice climate, as well as a place to HOLD SELECT CITY CRAP IN.
Seriously.

Nothing ever comes to Colorado...
mark @ Oct 10th 2007 10:06PM
uhhh....New York City??? the big daddy of all entertainment..the worlds capitol...the 3rd most populated city in the world....thats a WTF!
shivr @ Oct 11th 2007 12:19AM
not to mention grossly expensive?
zmog @ Oct 11th 2007 10:21AM
yeah i was thinking the same thing. do they NOT want to make money or something? i mean, twice in Utah? some place in Indiana? but NOT NYC?
Sickafant @ Oct 10th 2007 10:41PM
Based on Youtube vids (which probably isn't worth much) I think the Eminence orchestra plays the best. The audience is more tame as well. They also play anime music. Hopefully VGL is still fun though, already got my tickets for the Calgary concert.
Geoffrey @ Oct 10th 2007 10:48PM
I too have my tickets for the Calgary one. Two sets of them, actually, since the CPO made an oopsie and sent me two sets of tickets for the same seats. Go figure.
Hooray for second row dead center in the first balcony.
Tiger of PTS @ Oct 10th 2007 10:50PM
This show sucks.
Last one I went to traded the Silent Hill section for Lair, and the Castlevania section for The Darkness.
It was the most amount of failure I've ever seen on one stage at once.
IlyaG @ Oct 11th 2007 10:28AM
Well, considering that the music for Lair was composed by an Academy Award-nominated composer and is actually, you know, REALLY REALLY GOOD from an artistic and technical perspective, whereas the soundtrack to Silent Hill only means anything to people who have played the game (and even most of them probably don't really care), I'd say that they made a good choice here.
If you're more interested in nostalgia than music, then perhaps going to a music concert was a silly decision for you.
Tommy Tallarico @ Oct 10th 2007 11:02PM
To Phil: We're currently talking to Montreal about doing a show there. Stay tuned.
To me_inside: Dress however you want. Some people are in suits, others are in Mario shirts... and some are dressed AS Mario! :)
To Flyy: We have lots of East Coast shows coming up. These were only the first 25 of the announcement. Many more to come! Where do you live exactly?
To Ilyaga: I'm not sure that people enjoying themselves and cheering during the show should be considered "idiots". I can tell you that the musicians on stage really appreciate the cheers from the crowd which they normally aren't accustomed to!
To Kamizar: We are currently talking to Denver folks about bringing the show to Colorado.
To Tiger of PTS: You are mistaking our show with the Play! concert series. I believe the show you are referring to was held in San Jose. We currently do not play Lair or The Darkness... but Play! did those songs in San Jose.
Thanks Everyone. Feel free to ask more questions if you want.

any chance of SC? anywhere would do, preferably Charleston
IlyaG @ Oct 11th 2007 10:22AM
Hey, sorry if my post about "idiots" came off insulting. I'd just rather hear the music in a quiet, mature setting, but I'll take what I can get! You guys do a fantastic job, something that many of us gamers who love game soundtracks have been wishing for for decades. If you ever have a performance in NY, I would buy tickets in a heart beat.
shivr @ Oct 11th 2007 12:17AM
I might actually be able to get to the Atlanta one... hmmm...
Tommy Tallarico @ Oct 11th 2007 8:39AM
Yo Shmil,
SC is on our list of places to look at for fall of 2008. NC is also on that list and we've been speaking with people there for over 3 months.
Anyone interested in finding out information as it happens can sign up to the Video Games Live mailing list if they want. Our website is www.videogameslive.com
thanks,

I got my tickets for the Calgary show a few weeks ago, I can't wait. I'm glad they added Bioshock to the line-up thats great. I hope there are some people at the meet and greet as well (come on Bioware!)
Reicheru @ Oct 11th 2007 11:34AM
YES!!!! I've been dying to see a VGL show and it looks like I will finally get my chance. I was already planning on going to Otronicon in Orlando so this is a super sweet bonus!!
Sean @ Oct 11th 2007 11:39AM
I would like a Chicago show.
tyler @ Oct 17th 2007 7:12PM
