We've yet to hear a single complaint about Sony's monolith overheating, but that didn't stop PS3 fan (and dragon aficionado) Dragonpower from drilling some holes into the bottom of his PS3, running liquid coolant over the processors, and adding some extra fans just for good measure. The end result: 32ºC (90ºF, 305.15ºK) under heavy load. Oh, and it's "almost dead silent," which we're assuming is a step down from "dead silent."

32C/90F? How hot does it run without the cooling system?

He shouldn't have trusted liquid cooling. Totally overrated. ;P

It's not overrated for the people that totally want to overclock with no penalties =P But yeah, I would never let water or antifreeze or ANY liquid for that matter near my precious electronic stuff. Unless it's a glass of orange juice, because it's that good. Screw Bawls.

This is something the Xbox 360 should come standard with.

Very original. I smell a million dollar idea. Let's hope it doesn't malfuction one of these days, because it looks like an innovative (not to mention futuristic) way for cooling game consoles.
I wonder if that can also be done with a 360 or a Wii...

Liquid Cooling is pretty high maitenance as well as quite a bit more expensive. Sythentic diamond is where its at.

If he can afford to liquid-cool a PS3, he can afford a new one.

I'm also wondering how hot these systems get normally?! 90 degrees! Damn!

32 Degrees Celsius when under pressure is actually colder than most processors run while idling.

I'm wondering where the Wii's liquid cooling system is...I mean that's equally as redundant....so SOMEONE with too much time on their hands has had to have done it by now?
And I just think it would look "tubular" as already stated.

90 degrees is really cool, temperature wise. I know graphics cards in computer are generally 120-150 degrees.

Good one. As I said on this item when it was first reported on PS3 Fanboy (and also where everyone was quick to make the RRoD joke ad nauseam): it's nice to see the PS3 being put to use at long last! So what...now it can not only sit around idle trying to cure cancer and wait for games to be played on it, but it also helps out in pointless science projects. Money well spent there, money very well spent!

305.15°K?!?!?!? No way! I didn't understand the significance until I read that.
Though, in the future, I would prefer Rankine conversions, because that's my scale of choice.

Why not? Because I'll laugh my ass off, when the time for garanty claims has come. Systems don't die just on heat, you know.

Nice, but I'm not sure how much use it would be on a PS3. That would be great for the Xbox 360!

Some of the PS3s at Final Round X in Atlanta overheated during the Tekken comp last year. Basically they just turned off, and no permanent damage seems to have been done. Make sure to prop it up sideways if your PS3 gets too hot, watercooling is just overkill, lol.

I've actually seen quite a few PS3's overheating. Smoke is usually a clear sign.
However, this might be a bit overkill. I'm sure the warranty is utterly void. This is sad that someone would have to resort to a cooling system of this magnitude.

What a waste of time and energy. On the other hand, it's not like there is anything else to do with a PS3.

Kelvin is not measured in degrees. It would just be 305.15K.
Yes, I'm nitpicking.
No, I don't care.
