Among the cavalcade of announcements from Nintendo this week comes details surrounding what appears to be a full fledged game based on the Wii's conductor demo shown during last year's E3. The game, tentatively titled Wii Music, was first brought to our attention earlier in an interview earlier this year, and will allow players to control a group of musicians in both single and multiplayer modes supporting up to four players.
Interestingly, while the E3 tech demo was based solely around the concept of conducting the orchestra using the Wii remote as a baton, this improved take on the concept will allow players to directly control of up to six band members using both motions and button presses, with Wii Music offing an impressive selection of 40 different types of instruments with which to outfit your band, leading us to believe that the game will support a wide array of music styles, though no details along this line have been announced. Wii Music is expected to ship in Japan sometime next year, however it's anyone's guess when the game will make the rounds to either North America or Europe.

If this thing gives you even half the power of Mario Paint in terms of music creation, expect to see the theme of Ducktales played by an orchestra full of Hitlers and Dr. Zoidbergs on Youtube shortly after release.

It's all about targeted audience.
And also gameplay: if what WiNG wishes is true, then it's gonna be more like Jam Sessions than Guitar Band thingaMTVjig.

Because music/rhythm games don't count as games now? It's funny how that happens to genres once they're on the Wii.
Once Mario Galaxy comes out, we'll learn that platformers are actually minigames.

waves,
If you happened to see previous posts from me you will realize I have always said that rhythm games are the lowest common denominator for gaming. Its like playing a really difficult game of simon says, only simon cant say anthing interesting, only 5 different things.
Rhythm gaming is to gaming what farting the chorus to 'Hold the Line' is to music.

Bahahahaha! Hahahaha! Oh Shaggi, you crack me up. What a funny joke that is! You took the word "you" and then you made it like Wii! Oh, funny!

Please, please, please be done properly...
If this becomes a rigid, interactive music player instead of a free-form music creation system, I will be... quite upset...
There are an incredible number of cool things that could be done here, mostly well within the system's power, so I look forward to see how Nintendo does it. A shame that the Wii doesn't do proper surround, though; that could be a pretty cool element.

Damn. Great zing venom.
I think this is far closer to Band Bros. than Jam Sessions or Guitar Hero. But that is very good.

If I can't dress my Mii like a Mariachi this game fails.
When I got the Wii and I have not better to do than playing videogames and there isn't something better I would probably pick Wii music, I can't wait to play Ducktales theme with an orchestra full of Hitlers and Dr.zoidbergs.
