Nintendo says over a hundred WiiWare games proposed
An IGN translation of statements made by Nintendo president Satoru Iwata says there are over 100 games proposed for WiiWare. WiiWare is Nintendo's answer to independent and smaller games development which is becoming more prevalent in the industry. We aren't aware nor have seen too many of these WiiWare games, but expect that to change dramatically in 2008.
But if you think it's easy getting a development kit for the Wii, think again. Those currently creating games for WiiWare have been vetted. To even get a developer kit you must have (or be) a known publisher or have "a name." Even then Nintendo is keeping strict control over development kits. With any luck Nintendo will have a better time getting third-party games sold if people don't actually have to go to retail.

I can't wait for the game where I have to put salt and pepper on my eggs. You take the Wii remote and pick up the salt shaker...and begin shaking the controller. 100 points for that game.

I love all my Joystiq brothers and sisters, even if they are fanboys or haters. Game on!
See.
But you are right! I love you guys =)
At the Nintendo Press conference Iwata said "We have not created Wii Ware system to just to sell Mini games and Puzzle games." The FF Nation building game looked very interesting.
On note, WiiWare means buying your mini-games piecemeal instead of in compilation format. And,if they're charging $5 for NES games how much do you think they are gonna charge for wiiware games?

... now wait until Dragon Quest is released. Nintendo DS sales will explode.
Whats wrong guys...oh wait thats right there are no games to play on your ps3....and now that sony has gotten rid of backwards compatiblity you've returned to the old sony standard..."Bash Nintendo"
This is great news. All Nintendo needs to do is annouce a relatively cheap Hard Drive for the Wii. Because I don't see how we can fit all these games onto the Wii by itself.

The Wii really isn't getting the use I thought it would, despite buying many of the big titles for it.

WiiWare idea #2305. Adam Sandler is trapped on an island and falls in love with a coconut.
WiiWare idea #2306. Adam Sandler is like, in love with some girl, but then it turns out that the girl is actually a golden retriever, or something.

The more minigames there are for $2-$10 on the WiiWare channel, the less and less companies will be able to charge $50 for "games" like Cooking Mama. Eventually the lower price will bring either retail prices down on shovelware, or quality up. Or both.
Either way consumer wins, plus more choices.

AH HA HA HA HA!!! So much for the "independent and smaller games developers" they've been mentioning over the last year. I knew that was going to turn out to be pure lip-service.
