"Before we go any further, this isn't just a GH III problem. Rock Band will also use some sort of PS3 dongle"

If this is the case then why isn't Harmonix doing the same thing for the 360? I can see them saying that licensing the proprietary tech from MS raises the price but if they have already developed a dongle for the PS3 how hard would it be to do the same thing for the 360 and bypass the MS proprietary tech? I would have no problems plugging a dongle into the USB port behind the 360 to keep it out of sight and use a nifty wireless controller.

I would be that MS licensing prevents people from using their own wireless solution.

This is really going to hurt Sony in sales for this title.
Fuck this Dongle BS! They definitely need to fix this asap.

I personally would like a Rockband for Wii, I think it would be nice to have all your party games under one roof! Even if you have to plug in a Wii-remote into every instrument in order to achieve it (Still hoping for a microphone that sticks out of the back of a wiimote so no corded crap would be needed)

I really think the author is *really* stretching to propose that the lack of a Wii Rock Band release is related specifically to a controller issue.

A year ago when Rock Band was spec'd out, the Wii was still a relatively unproven entity. It also has gaping holes in its online strategy, which is supposedly a cornerstone of the Rock Band experience (both multiplay and DLC).

Plus, history shows that Harmonix has a history of slow, methodical rollouts. (see GH2 and 6 months of separation between PS2 and XB360)

There's two good reasons and one possible reason we don't have Rock Band on the Wii just yet.

Possible: Online play; the Wii has a crappy, awful online infrastructure. This is probably not the case, given we're talking about EA, and EA can and has brought in their own online system before (see Madden).

Good Reason #1: Controller support. At this point, you can't use the USB ports for controllers (to my best understanding). While you could put the Wiimote into the drumkit and the mic, it would be awkward if possible at all. EA may have to wait until Nintendo makes those two ports do something other than hold dust bunnies.

Good Reason #2: Downloadable Content. Rock Band is being hyped -hard- on weekly song packs and whole albums, which we completely lose on the Wii at this point, largely due to the completely anemic storage space. Leaving the game at the stock 45 tracks just doesn't work--GH3 can get away with it at ~70 tracks, but not Rock Band. EA may well be waiting until an expanded storage device comes along and makes DLC much more reasonable.

So how does Rock Band work on the new cut down PS3 her in Australia that only has 2 USB ports?
