After the Bungie/Microsoft split debacle, we're not going to discount anything out of hand, which is why we're bringing you this news of a rumored Prince of Persia prequel trilogy first reported by a blog called, and we're not making this up, "Surfer Girl Reviews Star Wars."
According to the site, which has displayed a couple of early images from the alleged game, Prince of Persia 4/0/Ghosts of the Past is supposed to be released in the latter half of next year. According to the author, "stylistically and gameplay-wise, the game has abandoned the dark edginess of the last two titles in favor a fantastical cross between The Sands of Time, Ico and Zelda." ... Wow. Now we really hope it's true.

That "stylistically" comment makes me think it's wishful thinking. Sounds a lot like the Shenmue 3 rumors.
Whether sophisticated gamers like it or not, Ubisoft knows that "badass" games sell. Games like Sands of Time, Ico (ha!), and any Zelda clone (BG&E!) sell like crap. Expect the next Prince of Persia to feature tentacle rape and a score by Kid Rock.

I want sequels...I'm SICK and TIRED of games that deal with shit in the past...
I want to know what happens in the future. Especially if its a good game that has just left me feeling happy and excited.

All the Prince of Persia games took place in the past.
What you want is "Cyborg Ruler of Planet Persicon X35." Don't worry, that's coming soon. It'll be a FPS, and 360/PS3 exclusive!

I actually think this is real. The Prince of Persia sequels never matched up to the success of the first one and for good reason. If you haven't noticed, the last two tried to be edgy and overly dark, and they weren't nearly as successful as a result. I think that Ubisoft is trying to get back to what made the first one so ejoyable and that's why their going with an Ico meets Zelda/ Sands of Time feel. Oh, and last time I checked Shadow of the Colossus was a huge success and merited Playstaion Greatest Hits status, so....

erm, what the fuck does it matter if you find out what happens in the past or the future, it's all new stuff

Umm clearly you're not getting it
By past I mean past in terms of storyline. I don't care or want to know about events that happened in the prince's past.
I'd rather know whats going to happen in his FUTURE. Not like 1000 years from now in Neo Persia or w/e
I mean the immediate future...as in 3 years down the line...or even 3 minutes down the line.
Its not that much to ask for. Just be creative and come up with something new rather than just use old stuff from the past.

I'd rather them go back in time because after the first one they get progressively worse. By the inverse property of temporal causality, anything that takes place before the first one should be AWESOME!

*spoiler*. sometimes its really awesome when you find out a game was a prequel. The ending of SOTC for example.

I hope that's true. I loved the first game in the series. After that they forgot about storytelling and all the character development and just made him into a generic emo/goth with attitude. Barf.

Well, those screenshots have to come from SOMEWHERE. And that doesn't look like any game I know.

Im glad theyre going back to the styles of Sands of Time. I really, extremely hated the darker tones of the sequels.

I just hope they've gotten over their fixation with combat. Sure, I enjoyed the odd battle in PoP:SoT but after that it was like the game had swallowed a beat-em-up's control system. I don't want to chain attacks, or bounce off of every surface in the level just to kill someone - I just want a top story tied in with interesting levels and some devious platforming.

I absolutely agree with you, Cabcru.
I loved the platforming elements of the PoP trilogy. (In all three games really, in spite of the darker tone of the sequels.) The story in Sands was great, as well. However, the combat was TEDIOUS.
When will developers learn that fighting in one room for 20 minutes as wave after wave of the same enemies continue to spawn for no reason isn't exciting? This is neither a "creative" nor "fun" way to create challenge in a game.
Give me some fun environments to wall-run around in, with clever traps to avoid and a modicum of enemies to eviscerate and I'm sold.

I agree as well. The action seems tacked on (like Tomb Raider) and not fitting in the game.

the purpose of the action in SoT was t give yu a break between the platforming and puzzling elements. Thats why they kept the two distinct.
Unfortunately, the devs seemed to forget that in the sequel, and decide the two needed to be combined, and that the combat needed to be enhanced.

If those screens are real, then it's got to be the Wii. The graphics are not detailed enough for PS3/XBOX360, but slightly too polished to be PS2/PSP. Saying that, the PoP games are usually multiplatform, so that probably doesn't mean anything.

If that's turns out to be true, then it's about fucking time. But at this point they're going to have to earn my trust back.

Meh, WW and TTT were both awesome as well, I liked seeing the Prince in a light, dark and mid tone.
