When you're buying Contra 4, you're not just buying a game. You're buying a lifestyle. You're saying "Hey, world! My name is [insert your name here] and I really enjoy Contra. I celebrate the entire canon! Why, right here for instance, I have a cart that features features a new game, plus the NES versions of Contra and Super C! Also, there's a "20th Anniversary Virtual Museum" and two digital comics from Contra artist Atsushi Tsijumoto. Oh, and five hidden characters, one of which ... is Probotector."
Though the list of goodies is exciting, we can't help but wonder: Exactly how much room is there on a DS cartridge? Have we been getting ripped off all this time? Well, we think the bar has been raised. From now on, we won't even think of buying a DS game unless it includes at least two games. ... Probotector is optional.

You're fucking kidding me right? I mean I'd already planned on buying this game anyway, but then they go and do *this*?! there's not enough bold, nor a big enough font for the 'DO WANT' associated with this game.

I know Phantom Hourglass is probably GOTY on the DS but seriously, Contra 4 alone was enough to get everyone to buy the game, but now to throw in the original, that's worth an extra $10-$15 on it's own but we're getting it for free.

You're suprised at the capacity of storage on these DS carts? Well, the bonus features can't total more than a couple megs, and if you think that is even CLOSE to half a cart's storage, you're wrong.

AoE, try learning the difference between 2Gb and 2GB. vidguy is 100% correct, the cartridge stores 256MB (= 2 gigaBITS)

Make a DS version of this. The stylus will replace the mouse.

Are you talking about cart size, or game size? There are a crapload of 32 and 64MB games out there.

I was referring to max cart and game size. Not ALL games are going to be 128 or 256 megs.

The biggest DS-Game is 256mb, although the bigger you make the game, the bigger amount of cash its gonna cost to the developper to produce it (more mb costs more money because the carts come in different sizes).

Why is Konami giving us those games when they could rake in more dough selling them separately on the VC? Wait, they're not gonna read this comment are they?

Super C and Contra III are already on the VC and the original Contra should be coming soon. They're covering all their bases.

OK I'm gonna have to bust the 'stiq on using "celebrate the entire cannon" on way too many occasions in the last 2 weeks. Find some new material.

You know that's 256 megabits right... not megabytes.
256 megabit cart = 32MB.

You know that you're an idiot, right? The biggest DS cart is 2 Gigabits, or 256 Megabytes/Mibibytes, whatever the hell you want to call it.

Man, no non-gimped version of Contra 3? I bought the GBA Contra 3 used for $10 and was still disappointed.

The max game size is 128mb thus far and rarely even reached (Hotel Dusk, RE: DS, and Crash of the titans are the only ones thus far). Alot more games are 64mb (Like 25 games maybe). But most games are 32mb (hundreds).
They could technically pack gigs onto a DS care and fit dvd sized games, but nintendo just wants them to keep it simple for now.

I thought Elite Beat Agents used up a lot of space, too - all those streamed songs and whatnot?

No, EBA used a 128MB cartridge and utilized low quality WAV-type sound files in it's SDAT that were clips of the songs. One 3 minute song could be condensed to 40 seconds of actual music stored on the game. They had everything loop into each other and fit perfect, and I would know this because I have extracted EBA/Ouendans music and pieced together a few songs.

Up until very recently, the highest amount of room a DS cartride can hold is 128MB. With the release of ASH: Archaic Sealed Heat, they can now use higher capacity cartridges.
