Microsoft gets tough on naughty gamer mottos

Even though your "Bros b4 hos" Gamer Motto may be both poignant and accurate, you may want to rethink it if you plan on playing on Xbox Live this weekend. Savings sultan CheapyD warns that his account was suspended for around 24 hours for his seemingly innocuous motto of "Konichiwa, bitches!" Another user on the site got a similar punishment for "called the šhit þoop," which is probably a bit more fair.

As Cheapy points out, a warning probably would have been sufficient, instead of automatically suspending a paying customer's account. There's still no word on whether or not Van Halen fans will get similar punishment for using their mottos to celebrate For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge.

Yeah one of my brother's friends recently had to change his gamertag from "Mike Hunt" to something else. He didn't get a ban or suspension or anything though.

That's a bitch. There really are people named Mike Hunt. I'd be pissed about that if I were one of them. "WTF, MS?!? You won't let me use my own damn name?!?"

About the name Mike Hunt, maybe somebody at Rockstar wanted that name. Micheal Hunt of Head Radio from GTA3. Yes, I do get the joke.

Is the use of "Sofa King" banned?

I dunno, but if "Sofa King" is banned, I wonder if "King of Sofas" would be allowed.

What's messed up is when people really misuse the motto.

My ex dated this guy and dumped his ass, and he posted her cell number as his motto. A few dozen assholes called her and were leaving her nasty messages. I reported it to Microsoft and it stayed there, eventually he changed his name.

I recently played a game with someone called
"Nxgger Killer" and a motto of something like "I kill black people"

I haven't played on live much before halo 3, but its apparent they did almost zero filtering before.

Welcome to XBL. Nothing new - I think I had my headset plugged in for about 5 minutes before the N-word and MF were being screamed at me.

Damn the U.S. and our habit of suing the crap out of people, requiring others to cover their asses with censorship.

But then Sony fanboys wouldn't be able to tell you you're paying as much for a 360 with a gold live membership as you are for a PS3.

This is really stupid...Microsoft should really have an agreement decided upon by themselves and the users rather than an agreement enforced upon them as a contract. Sure it's their service but we are their paying customers and without customer input they are not servicing the customers in the customers best interest. They are using the fact that they "Kind of" have a monopoly of a complete online service to bring in customers. They will have big trouble keeping them if other systems catch up.

I'm no supporter of censorship but they could, with my blessing, kick every stupid fucking kid who feels the need to talk ALL through the game. They don't care what comes out of their mouth. It doesn't even have to do with "foul" language just the constant "listen to me speak" bullshit. The worst are the kids who explain to you everything that is happening while it's happening..."I just pwned that guy and now he's pissed, did anyone see me". It's like diarhea of the cakehole!

In which case the appropriate response would be;
@OI! YOU WITH THE CAKE HOLE! SHUT YER CAKE HOLE!" in as broad and thick a north west england accent as you can manage. Works wonders I find. :P

And MS wonder why PC owners laughed in their faces when they told them that VISTA will come with XBL. I'll stick privately run servers where I can be called things like 'Mike Hunt' 'Lik Mei' or even 'Sckulphuckah Dwarfdeep'
