Unreal Tournament 3 demo now available on PC, already benchmarked
Call of Duty 4 isn't the only high-profile PC demo launching today. Epic Games has released a demo Unreal Tournament 3. The 741 MB download, currently available at FilePlanet, features three maps (two deathmatch and one vehicle Capture the Flag): HeatRay, ShangriLa and Suspense.
Unsurprisingly, there are already performance benchmarks for the game over various gaming rigs, such as this lengthy piece from PC Perspective. The demo description still lists UT3 as coming in November, although the game's publisher Midway doesn't have nearly as much confidence in that release window.

Is there anywhere else to download this demo? Fileplanet is crap and you have to pay to download the demo.
bounchfx @ Oct 12th 2007 2:40PM
'Fileplanet is crap' true.
' and you have to pay to download the demo.' false
10% left! woot!
ryan @ Oct 13th 2007 5:10PM
you dont need to pay but to get a good speed and get ahead of the line you do have to but you can get it if your willing to wait longer
Mike @ Oct 12th 2007 2:04PM
I sure long for the days when demos where easy to get. I'm not going to "sign" up with a account to download a demo! Epic should host this demo for free with their servers. BULLSHIT.
Shawn @ Oct 12th 2007 2:06PM
there a ton of links to download the client over at the official forums. There is a big torrent running for it as well.
Shawn @ Oct 12th 2007 2:05PM
This is great! I know what's gonna take up a lot my time this weekend. This is my goty by far..
As far as the comment in the article, this is definitely coming to PC in November, I'm not sure what the deal is with the ps3 though. Mark Rein has stated on the forums several times that the pc is on target, hence the beta demo which has always come out right before Epic's release.
Mike @ Oct 12th 2007 2:09PM
oh.. my bad thanks Shawn for mentioning that. Shame the site didn't. >:(
Mike @ Oct 12th 2007 2:18PM
I take that back.. getting this demo is incredibly hard and not worth my time to do so. STUPID. There are NOT links at the offical forums.
Shawn @ Oct 12th 2007 2:21PM
jesus christ Mike!! Here is a link I found by using the powers of google!! :P

Mike @ Oct 12th 2007 2:27PM
thanks Shawn.. but I have to 'sign' up there to download it. I finally found a truly easy place.. FileFront
http://files.filefront.com/Unreal+Tournament+3+Beta+Demo/;8780331;/fileinfo.html
My complaint is still valid however.. I shouldn't have to go through signing up and registering with some site to get a free demo that is promoting a game they want to sell.
JKeovichith @ Oct 12th 2007 2:30PM
if you use news groups, here's an nzb

Arturo @ Oct 12th 2007 2:33PM
I'm getting it at filefront and I guess there's no wait. Running it fine on my machine is a diff story though... =/
Jeff @ Oct 12th 2007 2:41PM
How you live life as PC gamer not signed up to fileplanet or any of the affiliate sites is beyond me. Really not a big deal at all; I find the IGN download manager convenient.
blooh (CDF - Nipple Ring) @ Oct 12th 2007 2:55PM
i manage just fine without that shit
Billy @ Oct 12th 2007 2:51PM
Joystiq, I'm offended that you would even link to the hell that is FilePlanet. FUCK THAT SITE.
Everyone, here is a link to a FREE download on filefront.com, NO REGISTRATION REQUIRED! I'm getting about 300KB/s right now :D

Synner @ Oct 12th 2007 2:53PM
No, having to sign up is bullshit. It especially sucks when you have to do it for a patch for a game you bought. The damn company can't even give you a fast easy link to fix their broken product. It's liks Mcdonalds sending you to wendys when they forget your coke at the drive through.
Blazur @ Oct 12th 2007 3:13PM
Nice! Can't wait to try this out and see how crappy it runs on my computer. Regardless, Unreal 3 is a game in which I will upgrade my computer for. Unquestionably.
Man...Unreal and Orange Box all within a month. Hello Winter activity!
JangoGod @ Oct 12th 2007 3:53PM
I hated fileplanet until I became a member. It rocks!
And I forgot this was coming! I hope my computer can run this better than its running Crysis!
AMD 4800+ (2.4 each)
SLI 7800 GTX cards (I hope it supports SLI or I'm in trouble!)
Windows XP
Mikeo @ Oct 12th 2007 10:33PM
Well, even the 8800GTS struggles on Crysis at high resolutions (And it's DX9), I wouldn't dare much.
UT 3 is surprisingly scalable, Unreal Engines have always be.
EternityInBlack @ Oct 12th 2007 4:18PM
Runs pretty good with a 2nd generation MacBook Pro in Windows XP (Bootcamp). Only tried Instant Action, not Multiplayer though :P
Bootes @ Oct 13th 2007 1:57AM
Instant Action is actually more demanding on the computer than Multiplayer, because it has to run the AI code.
stik_man @ Oct 12th 2007 4:50PM
bout time... finally something to pull me away from my shareware version of Quake.
LunarAura @ Oct 12th 2007 5:29PM
Hah it runs great 1024x768 at max settings (for the demo. I'm sure the full game will have ballooned graphical options). Athlon XP 3000+ 32bit, Radeon 9800 Pro. 2GB ram WinXP
hahahahahahahha what an awesome engine!
giest @ Oct 13th 2007 4:08AM
to lunar aura
what! thats sweet. that engine is the most optomised engine in pc gaming history. i have a 9800 pro too and half life 2 some times hits it. damn unreal is a good ass engine.
blooh (CDF - Nipple Ring) @ Oct 12th 2007 6:19PM
damn, i came back and the download messed up halfway through
trying again from the site you don't sign up for *crosses fingers*
Clack @ Oct 12th 2007 6:50PM
Goodbye real world.
At least this go around I'm not in college anymore.
keikun17 @ Oct 12th 2007 9:19PM
Direct Download Unreal Tournament 3 here :

it doesn't matter now if you get the locked fileplanet version since FP already unlocked hours ago.
blooh (CDF - Nipple Ring) @ Oct 12th 2007 10:38PM
hmm, i just played a couple rounds of the demo and...meh
it's just a generic fps
ThornedVenom @ Oct 13th 2007 2:38AM
