Wrongo. Nintendo's producing at capacity and selling out. That indicates high demand, not low supply.

I can honestly say that Kaplan is my least favorite nintendo PR personality. She never had any of her facts straight.

seriously, this is a pretty stupid statement even for a PR person. it's not something that will increase sales, it will only piss people off

just my 2c before i leave this one alone...

perhaps they meant jaded instead of bored. i found the industry basically copied whatever was successful - as soon as GTA came out, everyone and their mother wanted to be like it - guns, blood, whatever. Games were getting generic, nothing new was really being done.

That's not to say that quality games weren't being produced, but perhaps she just meant they felt gamers wanted the industry to be shaken up a bit. I welcomed the change - gives me a choice... people like choice no? like the choice to buy a 360 or a Wii or a PS3 or all of em? Or does choice just lead to fanboyism...

FWIW, I'm having more fun with my PS3 than my Wii. But both are pretty slim right now compared to the 360. But R&C and Uncharted are two of my most anticipated upcoming holiday season titles. With Brawl out of the picture (and I'm only a minor fan of Brawl anyway), the only game Wii game I have any interest in at all this holiday is Galaxy. If I didn't have the 360, there are still plenty of multiplatform games like Assassin's Creed and CoD4 that a PS3 owner will have to play this holiday.

Bored of what...new Mario Party rehashes every 6 months? Bored of game consoles with meager specs and bottom dollar graphics? Bored of not having online play whatsoever unless you wanted to play PSO?

The only thing I'm bored of is Nintendo making the same stupid decisions over and over again like they know what people want. They've been out of touch with the hardcore gamer market for over 10 or 15 years now. Please, do have another though...I certainly WON'T be bored when I DON'T buy WiiFit or steering wheel shells or half the other BS that you come up with, Nintendo.

Look me up in 2027 when you actually come up with something I give two $#!t$ about. Until then...the layer of dust on my standby-powered Wii will continue to grow.

You're absolutely right, I had no idea the system was capable of 480p and is practically 2 Gamecube's duct taped together since the overall power of the cpu + gpu is 2-3x more powerful than the Gamecube. Which is like, so much more uber powerful.

PLEASE.
Get back to me when Nintendo gets an online presence that is even 1/10th as feature-rich as Xbox Live or the PSN. But please, by all means, don't hold your breath. Nintendo's too busy protecting kids from pedophiles and 4 letter words online that by the time they actually come up with something worthwhile, Xbox Live and the PSN will be another 1000000x better when Nintendo finally gets off their @$$e$ and does something.

Please though, DO take another drink of the Miyamoto koolaid.

You may think you're having fun with Mass Effect, but you're not, no you are not!

However, if waggle controls were added, you will have a BLAST!

'Wave left for aggressive responce.'

'Wave right for friendly responce.'

'Thrust forward to get stabby.'

'Pull back to initiate collar grab!'

perrin is right in a sense- the ps2/gc/xbox era was certainly the most boring generation in the history of videogames.

Dude, you are so right. Not that great games didn't come out, but I felt like when you're in a relationship and all you want to do is end it except that you can't for whatever reason. So you keep thinking of excuses to stick around, you know, trying to convince yourself that it's still good but it's just not the same. I felt like that all last gen. Then my DS was my rebound and the Wii60 has become my new "real" relationship.

I assume that was supposed to be sarcasm because the last gen offered more great games and a diversity of genres than ever before because of the widening appeal of gaming. The PS2 helped that to a great extent and the library of fantastic games for that system alone made it a great time to be a gamer. It was the true era of consoles truly delving into the 3D realm for the first time in any far reaching manner. The Dreamcast helped make online gaming a reality for consoles and then XBox live took it to a whole new level. As for the GC, well it had it's little niche and a few damn fine titles.

I'm sorry, but motion controls and mini-games on their own can't top the last gen. The hardware and online aspects of the Wii are still last gen. Heck, most of the games on the Wii are last gen.

well, i grew up in the snes era, so that was the most exciting era for me. the ps/n64 era was exciting too because it gave us 3d gameplay.

the gc, xbox, and ps2 expanded and improved on 3d gameplay and gave us a lot of great titles. it was amazing seeing the graphics of these systems for the first time, but there was nothing really new... it was boring compared to the previous generations and games were beginning to feel a bit stale.

I have to disagree with Kaplan. Although I don't live in the USA or Canada I've owned every single system ever released in the North American Market since the NES (except the jaguar and 3D0). I have to say by far this generation of gaming is the worst generation in the history of video games in my opinion. The PS3, 360 and Wii as of right now are complete failures. The PS3 and Wii when it comes to games and the 360 when it comes toward hardware. As a medium video games have always been my personal hobby so I buy and finish a lot of games per month. As of right now I own 1 Wii game (Metriod), I had 3 but I sold Paper Mario and Zelda in Ebay since I found both games to be mediocre games. I have 5 PS3 games(Warhawk, Resistance, Ninja Gaiden, Enchanted Arms, Heavenly Sword). The PS3 has good games (my opinion) but due to its very steep price only old hardcore gamers will buy it without giving it a second thought.

As far as the 360 I bought it in launch but I'm currently on my 8th system. Yes I've had a refurbished console send to my house 8 times. Its been in McAllen Texas more time that its actually been in my residence being used. I used to own 15+ 360 games but I sold them all in ebay after I became dishearten with the situation. Now I only have Halo 3.

So yeah I think this generation of gaming as of now is the worst generation ever and is the one that is boring me to death. It may be the one that actually makes me look for another main hobby after 20+ years.
I'll stick with the DS, PSP, and PC this generation.

Except for the week I played Metroid Prime 3: Corruption, I've been bored SINCE I got my Wii.

N, how about shipping some non-casual games for us gamers who bought the Wii?

I WAS bored with games. REALLY bored. I was thinking of quitting console games altogether, and I practically didn't play much anymore. Then the news of the Wii came, and I was interested, nay, excited about it. And when it finally came to store shelves, I found myself playing more games again, and having more fun with them. Thanks to Wii, I'm still enjoying games. And I know a lot of people felt and feel the same way.

SHE'S RIGHT.

The last generation was boring. Period. There were plenty of gems like Halo and Smash Bros, but a few years in I would look around a Blockbuster and just let out a sigh for the complete lackluster lineup among the consoles.

Last-gen was getting boring really quick, no argument. Wii60 solved that.

Actually I was getting bored with gaming that's why I bought a Wii because I thought it would revolutionalize gaming and spark my interest back in games they way I loved gaming back in the days of the NES, but so far it's been a let down. :(

She is right. I'm not sure the Wii has solved the problem though.

Obviously not all gamers were bored... younger and newer gamers weren't. But those of us reaching our thirties were/are definitely getting jaded.

I've read so many posts online that were from people, like me, who were just losing their enthusiasm for playing similar games over and over.

Why do you think the Wii gained so many hardcore fans, even before it was launched? People hoped it would bring something different and fun.

These days people seem pretty split on whether the Wii succeeded, but that doesn't mean the issue didn't exist.
--
The REALLY ODD thing is that nintendo (well, actually 3rd parties) has all-but ignored that audience of jaded gamers.. focusing mostly on ports and games for new gamers.

And the other odd thing is that the main thing that jaded gamers seem to appreciate the Wii for is the Virtual Console.

Maybe we aren't jaded, we are just too old to play these newfangled games...

All of you must be bored, because you're in joystiq reading and posting stuff when you should be playing Halo-what-is-it or Mario-whatever or Heavenly-something.
