They are, according to top executives in the film industry. Ticket sales for the first week of October are at their lowest since 1999, and the industry is worried that those dang video games might have something to do with it.
Advertising Age reports that ticket sales were down 27% from last year, and that the likely suspect is the recently-released Halo 3, with over $300 million in sales and countless hours of multiplayer mayhem keeping potential movie-goers strapped to their couches. Now, in a wholly different way, video games are on the radar of the film industry, as studios begin to sweat the unforeseen competition. Oh, for the days when piracy was the only concern!

You would think that someday, the movie inudstry and the recording industry would pick up on the hint that maybe they need to release things people want to watch and listen to, and maybe their sales would be better?
Nah, suing people into the next century works way better.

Isn't this exactly what Satoru Iwata wanted? To play a game instead of going to the movies? It's simply one form of entertainment over another.

Yet, they didn't want to make a Halo movie?

Not sure if they're related, but I have been playing a lot of Metroid, Halo 3, Orange Box, and Duck Amuck lately, but I haven't seen a movie in theaters for a long time.

1. Anyone who doesn't think a game can have a good, engaging plot never played Homeworld.
2. Anyone who never played Homeworld is not a whole person.
3. Someone should start making "movie games" in which you just actively watch a story, with minimal interaction. But how cool would it be if Lord of the Rings was a movie game, where you controlled the camera and could watch any part of the battle you want? Or you could look at different characters' faces to see whoever's emotions you want. THAT would be cool.

the funniest part of this is that they are crying over poor box office sales for 'The Heartbreak Kid' with Ben Stiller. Seriously! The MPAA is surprised that people would rather stay home and play video games than see that pile of steaming crap of a movie??!!? the MPAA is clearly being run by nincompoops!

No one bought cupcakes from my bake sale... you know why? HALO 3 stole all of my customers, like wtf. I hate you!

I got to see The Heartbreak Kid for free and I still wanted my money back. Halo 3 had nothing to do with that movie not meeting box office expectations. It flopped because it was a crapfest of a movie.

I think all the world's problems should be blamed on microsoft and halo.

The RIAA blames piracy for decrease music sells, but in reality movie sells are stealing their customers. Then the MPAA blames piracy for decrease movie sells, but in reality Halo 3 is the blame too. You got to blame somebody.

Sad. If Uwe Boll would stop worrying about how we pronounce his name long enough to actually give a flying crap about the movies he makes, maybe there WOULD be better video game movies. Meh.
And btw, I own both Orange Box on PC and Halo 3 and they both have their merits. Halo 3 does alot of things really well, but the biggest thing for me is that more people I know are playing and xbox live is really smooth. So friends playing and fun are both responsible for the 2 million + ppl you see playing H3 daily.
But I love both.
