How a 681-day achievement streak comes to an end
David Dreger, better known to the Xbox community by his gamertag "Knuckles Dawson," finally saw the end to his 681-day Xbox achievement streak on Oct. 4. Dreger tells why it happened in his latest Achievement 101 feature on sister-site X3F. After receiving MVP status from Microsoft on Oct. 1., he finally made the decision to stop -- but it took another few days for it to actually happen. Dreger received at least one achievement on his Xbox 360 gamertag every day from Nov. 22, 2005 until Oct. 4, 2007.
Dreger, who is also a co-host on sister-site X3F's podcast, says he's accomplished all that he wanted to with the achievement streak. What finally made him stop his streak was a good game of Halo 3 with a friend while they were on the level "The Way the World Ends." Dreger says he's still interested in getting achievements as he is a self-proclaimed "achievement whore," but now is focusing on simpler tasks like getting his score to 54,321, to mirror when he had 12,345. Y'know, just for the heck of it.

Wow, what a waste of time.

The kid played video games everyday, set a goal for himself, and he gets ridiculed?
Joystiq is a video game blog.
This should be the one of the few places where he isn't criticized.
I mean, we're all gamers, right?

didn't he want to take a vacation outside of his home once in awhile? The world is too big a place to waste away on achievement points everyday.
sad.
McWeen @ Oct 16th 2007 2:34PM
Achievements don't do anything.
rivaldi22 @ Oct 16th 2007 2:37PM
Not that I condone this sort of (silly, unproductive) behavior, but it's the journey, not the destination, I imagine, that's the prize.
Shmil @ Oct 16th 2007 2:59PM
thats not true, they are the midichlorians to your E-Penis

cade @ Oct 16th 2007 3:32PM

Tom @ Oct 16th 2007 5:40PM
"yeah but he used downloads to get alot of his achievements"~cade
What's your point? Getting achievements from XBLA games is perfectly acceptable.
Kaspar @ Oct 16th 2007 2:37PM
Yeah, go on, play on the xbox live for 681 days, and 19 days before reaching a nice, round 700 days - QUIT,just for the heck of it.
What a rebel. Hope he regrets it.
Zertoss @ Oct 16th 2007 2:37PM
Getting 1 achievement per day should still give you plenty of time to do other things. Some achievements take, what, all of 1 minute to get?
Zertoss @ Oct 16th 2007 2:49PM
In case you haven't done the math, he got about 74 gamerpoints per day. That's like 1 - 5 achievements per day, only more if you're getting those little 10 pointer achievements.
I imagine anyone here could do it.
Word of the street(IDF-Digital Ruler). @ Oct 16th 2007 2:59PM
There is actually a guide to get 9,000 easy in a weekend the thing is buying and renting a lot of sh*tty games.
Basically playing games like Yaris, actually this make me realize that achievements are cool if you just want to be a show off in some multiplayer games for example having all the achievements in multiplayer based games like shadowrun, Gears of war,Halo3 and Team fortress 2 is pretty damn impressive even if it just accumulates 6,000 a 6,000 Multiplayer Expert is more valuable in any team than a 18,000 player than plays Cars and Shriek the Third.

Word of the street(IDF-Digital Ruler). @ Oct 16th 2007 2:50PM
Impressed...Not,there are guys that just glitch the achievements to get 61,000 anyway also that playing Cars and Fuzion Frenezy is not my idea of fun.
I just want to hit 10,000 or 12,000 and leave it there I have a job so like hell I'm going to be able to get 100,000 achievements.
3cubed minus 3squared plus1 @ Oct 16th 2007 2:59PM
I'd be happy if I ever reach 5,000.
I don't even look to see how to get achievements, I just wait for it to give them to me.
I play games for fun. I could care less of my Gamerpoints.
Word of the street(IDF-Digital Ruler). @ Oct 16th 2007 3:03PM
Actually my X360 sez I have 7,000 of 14,000 possible achievements the thing is that I never feel like playing PGR3,PDZ or Forza 2 anymore I'm playing Halo 3,Viva piñata and Oblivion now.
I only need 3 online achievements in Halo 3 I bet you can imagine which ones, effing lag 1 second and I missed Steppin razor and 2 4 1 arrgg.I hate online achievements.
3cubed minus 3squared plus1 @ Oct 16th 2007 3:10PM
Online achievements made me not care for achievements. When I first got the Box I wanted to see if I could do them all but then I read some of them and I was like the hell with this.
So now I don't care.
Jon @ Oct 16th 2007 2:53PM

T3H WICKERMAN (FDF) @ Oct 16th 2007 3:02PM
no a nice young man. I dont understand how this is news. Plenty of people on X360a.org do the same thing. Maybe we wont have to hear him talk about himself in posts anymore.(oh nevermind.)
FoxHoundADAM @ Oct 16th 2007 3:07PM
The impressive thing about this isn't that he has 50,000 gamerscore, it is that he got at least 1 achievement everyday.
Also, there may better things to do with your time than to get achievement points but couldn't it also be said that there are more important things to do than post on a video game blog? Hypocrites!
T3H WICKERMAN (FDF) @ Oct 16th 2007 3:15PM
the kettle....
Daxter1985 @ Oct 16th 2007 3:13PM

p-diddy @ Oct 16th 2007 3:56PM
yeah, nice to see how you're somehow playing 5 games at once, i.e., yaris, looney tunes, testris splash, etc are all "last played" within seconds of each other. Same for your block on October 12th.
I got money to burn too, but I'm not going to pay someone to up my gamerscore.
-p-
UnnDunn @ Oct 16th 2007 4:29PM
Good on Knuckles for keeping it up as long as he did. I doubt there are many people who could keep a streak like that going for almost two years. Shit, I can't even keep a "daily gameplay" streak going for more than a week, forget about getting an achievement every single day.
blooh (CDF - Nipple Ring) @ Oct 16th 2007 5:06PM

seriously, i don’t know how many of you guys can talk shit when you all know you've spent many an all-nighter playing Halo, Fable, Half Life, Wii Sports, Metal Gear, Quake, or any iteration of Super Mario. Also, we all know gamers are not all fat guys with no lives or no girlfriend, so why do some of you continue with that.
I am a Gamer. I play as many games on as many consoles and PC’s as I can all because I like to play Video Games. Does that make me a loser? No. How does Knuckles Dawson differ then many of you that frequent this website. We all play Video games.
Most of you are just a bunch of fucking hypocrites.
blooh (CDF - Nipple Ring) @ Oct 16th 2007 6:01PM
i think the only games i've played all night were ff7 and ape escape
Mauricio @ Oct 16th 2007 5:27PM
hey Blooh, did you know you have 1388 comments since July on Joystiq. if you spent at least 30 seconds on each comment that would a total of
41,640 seconds or
694 min or
11.5 hours or
Half a day straight just sitting at your computer commenting on worthless videogame blogs. only just since 3 months ago.
wow, what a waste of time.
