God damnit, Sega – just delay it.
It's guaranteed to flop with that date. And given the timing, it sounds like they're rushing it in time for Christmas.

Agreed. :\ And I still have the uneasy feeling the controls won't be as good as it was on Saturn.

I loved the original, but somehow I don't think this would be good no matter how much time they spent on it. Sega doesn't have the magic anymore.

I like how the article says "Good news" and then we all get pissed that it's coming out so soon.

I agree though, Sega needs to take their time with Nights. They really can't afford to destroy another franchise.

lol is that nintendo syndrome? (i mean, every game that isn't delayed should be delayed so that the developers can "develop it with no rushes") cmon! if a game is delayed (ssbb) you don't care much, but if it's released on schedule, you criticise?

Portugaman -- It's not so much a problem with it being on time as it's a problem with SEGA themselves. Given their once proud history, I'm admittedly worried that the Wii version of NiGHTS won't live up to the fun we had on the Saturn versions(yes, I'm including CHRISTMAS NiGHTS, LoL). I'm happy if it does appear on Dec. 18th... but not holding my breath that it'll make it in time. I mean, it's literally a week before x'mas.

Yeah, I really worry about this being rushed for those Christmas dollars. But that might still be dumb since, let's be honest, I'm not going to have any money left by December after this November.

Kind of disappointing to know this, I really liked The original Nights game and Christmas Nights. Well hopefully despite the quick release it will be a good game. I really need a reason to turn on my Wii, its been off since April.

you just fly through rings? damn that's lame. i remember spyro's speedways having that mechanic, but the rest of the game was way more interesting

You fail for never playing the original NiGHTS.

You do not just "fly through rings" in fact, it is not even necessary to complete the levels. It is merely in the game for point accumulation and high score setting. That is like saying that Tony Hawk sucks because "you just jump on rails".

Funny. People were positively dropping like flies in the aisles, demanding that a sequel to NiGHTS be made. It finally gets made, and now everyone is whining because it's either going to play too much like its predecessor or because "Sonic Team sucks at making games anymore".

1. It's a sequel. You guys wanted more of the same. Here you go.

2. If Sonic Team didn't make it, you'd whine. There are, though, yet you still whine. If you knew they made shitty games, why ask for a NiGHTS sequel?

Some people's kids....

I think its more like that people had high hopes for this game, but a dec 18 date just screams "we rushed the hell out of this to get it to street by christmas".

Rush jobs almost never turn out well. See "Daggerfall" for an example.

Is Sonic Team working on this game? I thought Naka left Sega.

The December 18 release date is just a bad idea IMO. The game, which is already a niche release, will only have 5-6 days to benefit from the holiday rush and many people will already be done shopping. Will it gather sales from the hardcore fans in that time? We'll see.

1. This game has been rumored to be in production since the spring of last year. If true, I'd hardly call that a "rush job".

2. The original didn't sell all that well and only the most hardcore of the hardcore were waiting for the sequel. Does it really matter when this game gets released? Those who want it will buy it, if not now then eventually. It's not like, say, Mario is going to steal NiGHTS's thunder. NiGHTS had no thunder to begin with.

Yes, Naka is gone, but Takashi Iizuka, one of the other key developers of the original, is heading this project

And its not "rushed" into that time slot per se, the game's screenshots and gameplay vids recently had an astronomical jump in quality (like from DC quality to true Wii quality), and it is well-believed that the builds everyone were criticizing were older ones

Its getting a US release before Christmas. It ought hold you Wii owners off to the Mario Galaxy and SSBB in '08.

I have a REALLY bad feeling about this game...like unless this has been in secret development for 3 years I don't think it should be released this Christmas.

Its just too early...what we only heard about this game early this year right?

I just don't see how this game could possibly meet or even exceed the level of requirements that all the fanboys of the series are demanding.

Wait...so NiGHTS is going to actually come true in December on time and people complain...

...but Nintendo needs more time with Smash Bros Brawl so they delay it a mere two months and...people complain?

WTF is wrong with this generation!?!

Cuz we care a whole lot more about Mario than some random unisex clown thats flying around looking retarded talking about dreams or whatnot...

Plus it seems like this game was trulyu rushed and it will come out looking horrible.

In short I think our priorities are right on the money. Brawl looks great so far but if they feel that it can get even better then I'm all for it.

Plus I want Megaman in that game and if they felt Sonic was SO crucial then they damn well better put Megaman up in that piece.

Sega hasn't had a truly great game since..
You know what? I don't even recall. Looking at their website, none recently whatsoever. As much as I'd like to give this franchise a try, I'm waiting for reviews first. Sega's non-polished, downright awful titles for the last few years have made me look from a distance. I'm not expecting any miracles. Poor Sonic has to offer his character to Nintendo's titles just to take part in a decent game. SEGA needs to hire some good talent, because whatever they've got, it's not working.

I would call original monkeyball "good" from sega. I would also call Sonic Rush good, but I don't know if you're just looking for console releases.

Oh I suppose you can count Amusement Vision's Super Monkey Ball, they are a part of SEGA afterall, and that game was pretty decent. Sonic Rush, though...I didn't care for that game much at all, it was enough for me to give it to a friend that has some odd attraction to everything Sonic. "Hold right. Fall in pit. Try again, this time jumping over pit." Eh, no thanks.

Huzzah huzzah

Christmas NiGHTS returns in a more meaningful way.

NiGHTS is like if Disney's "Fantasia" was made into a game, and a sequel can only be good. (Hey, i've actually liked most of Sonic Team's recent work, i only didn't like Shadow the Hedgehog because of it's ultra-emo finish, and Sonic 2006 because of how buggy it was, both were solid at the core)

This game will make for a merry christmas indeed
