Hoping that the Japanese have a better sense of humor than their American counterparts, EA has released a trailer featuring the previously-discussed "Big Super Happy Fun Fun Land" section of The Simpsons Game, which parodies Japanese culture as well as (apparently) Japanese video games.
Pardon the parentheticals, but the only game we see spoofed in this trailer is Katamari Damacy. Yes, we see Mr. Sparkle; We see the anime-inspired cutscene; We (unfortunately) hear the high-pitched "engrish"; But where are the games? Are we missing something obvious?
Take a look for yourselves after the break, and please enlighten us.
i tried the demo of it last week and it was decent, except I could never land bart on the donut robot's 2nd window, so after 20 minutes of trying to hit his 2nd weak spot, i deleted it

the rest of it seemed fun, but very shallow
I had the same problem... Anyone know how to get past it so I can see the rest of the demo?
well you gotta knock open his port near a roof that bart can float up to, then glide onto the robot's platform. I did that about 10 times and it was always just outta reach
To get the 2nd and 3rd windows on the roboguy, you have to use the level geometry, and Bart's "cape" ability. If you didn't know, Bart's special action is he can glide like batman (bartman).
So make the roboguy follow you to some building, use one of the trashcan lids to hop up on top, open the guy's door by hitting it and glide down to trash his circuits.
Bart's slingshot seems to work best for opening the doors.
Actually is pretty easy, change to Bart and shoot the robot port then use Homer inflatable form to get to the second port and with a little bit of luck this would also work for the third port.
I finished the demo and I say is a good ol' 7 all around, the camera is decent but it gets stuck easily, the graphics are acceptable for a Simpson’s game but I think is the humor what makes this a good game.
The comic store guy really made me laugh:” Don’t you know you can't swim until the sequel?" LOL that absolutely true haha.
Just from this one I see references to Katamari, Okami, Pokemon, Final Fantasy, and Super Mario Bros. I think there were some more in the first Super Happy Fun Fun trailer.
I loved the Dragonball Z action split-screen charge-up rage-filled super poses that Homer and Lisa struck. Comedic gold.
That Lard Lad boss battle in the demo is terrible. The demo showed the game's flaws, which we all knew were going to be many, but the sort of hilarity the game oozes ought to be worth the trip anyway.
It would seem they are taking shots at Final Fantasy (wasn't that airship like that in in FFX?) as well standard RPG summoning move and near the end is an homage to the typical in battle signature move cutscene from games like dragon ball Z/Naruto fighting games.
In the last quarter of the video there's a short shot of Homer jumping. In the background you can see some mushrooms that have the same color scheme as the mushroom power-ups from the original Super Mario Bros.
With that backgrounds and such.. Katamari(Milhouse in getup of the rolling character), Dragon Ball(Super Special Attacks), old '70s and a little '80s Anime (Homer/Lisa poses picture)and of course MARIO 64 (Just the look and action of the Entire game).. since that game was made in Japan, I guess I should add that too.
My (Japanese) husband got a huge kick out of this.
Yes, the Japanese have decent senses of humor... Along with a fair bit of curiosity as to how they are perceived outside of Japan. Parodies are big business here.
