Capcom announces Street Fighter IV
153
This sort of thing doesn't happen very often, you know. According to Games Radar, a Capcom Gamer's Day event in London has revealed a brand new (and not entirely unexpected) entry in the seminal 2D fighting franchise, Street Fighter. Most notably, this new entry increases the numeral at the end of the title as opposed to the number of Super Hyper Ultra adjectives at the start.
Not much is known about Street Fighter IV at present, save for the fact that its release is more than a year away. Other things you can likely expect while we wait for more details and media to arrive: Ken and Ryu in HD, Hadoukens and extremely pithy victory remarks.

Capcom has a Ryu in 3D, but it's for Brawl. Incidentally, it will be the greatest fighter to ever exist, and ironically for Ryu's presence.
But SF4 will do just fine. :P
To be honest, I'm hoping that the UDON guys aren't working on this as well.

I also agree. Must be 2D, and must not be done by the Udon guys. I personally want the artist from Third Strike to do the work. Also, I wouldn't mind if they mixed things up and did a MVC2 style fighting system; although that flies in the face of standardized Street Fighter games.

Oh for sure.
Plus then I can play it on CPS3 (Emulator) and not have to pay some ridiculous price for it on consoles :D

Gotta agree with ya, this has to be 2D.. 3D just doesn't work for SF. Just not sure what more they could do with 2D though :/

After capcom fighting evolution and the cancellation of CFA, I don't think any of us on SRK really expected this. I'm glad they proved us wrong, for once.

I bet its 2d so don't worry. That SSF2THD Remix is probably a test run on a new 2d system they are creating. I just hope that the roster is a lot better than SF3 third strikes was. Who wants to use a character dressed as Dick Tracy with a metal mask (i.e. Q)?

You should be struck by lighting for insulting third strike.

The characters choices in third strike was garbage, although the gameplay was brilliant. It went way too sci-fi for street fighter. Yeah, SFII had blanka & dhalsim, but it ended there and they weren't too over the top. The omega red rip-off, Frankenstein replace ment for dhalsim (i mean really, come on here) & the one armed dude was too bizzare.
Bringing Akuma into the mix was another mistake. I guess he was still popular, but with Ken, Ryu & sean on the roster already, to many shotokan's. It would've been the perfect opportunity to bring Guile back.

Lay off. Q was awesome. The only character I really didn't like from SFIII:TS was Urien. The whole speedo bottoms thing was just kinda creepy.

Capcom no longer has the Marvel fighting game license. Go ask EA. :(

Capcom needs to sub-license Marvel for just one game, or some other legal voodoo.
I think I'll be playing MvC2 long into the NEXT generation of consoles.

screw buying SF 3 when i can just download the characters for winmugen and play it for free. or mix in other non-SF characters (like MK or DBZ) and be even better.
hmm ryu vs super man. sweetest battle yet or even better goku vs super man. i better go download them for winmugen to play them.

Yeah, except WinMUGEN has some of the most unbalanced and inconsistent gameplay ever crafted. It's obvious why: you're pulling characters from different fighting games that still, for the most part, play like their old games, and mixing them with all sorts of other characters. Some of the mixes work and some don't. Actually, most don't.
Sure, if you're looking to live out dream matches (like hadoken vs. kamehameha or something) MUGEN is great, but for an actual fighting game experience it's nearly worthless unless you actually work to find a balance among the characters you download.
That and it's completely illegal to use.

I don't follow Street Fighter games, so can anyone tell me what makes a new numbered entry in the series any different from a new subtitled entry? They all seem pretty much the same to me.

The non-numbered ones tended to be more about slight to significant variations, while the actual numbers were complete overhauls. 3 was very different from 2, which was completely different from 1. This is also the series proper, not Alpha, not EX, not a collaboration or crossover.
Of course, if you're not a 2D fighting game fan, they will probably all look the same to you, just like people not into FPSs claim they are all the same.

OMG!!! It happened...it really, really happened! Man, I can't believe they actually announced it. I tell you, a year plus is a pretty long wait, but I'd rather they take the time and get it right (besides, we all know that this means there will be at least 2 other remakes right?).
Just knowing that it's happening has made my week! Thank you Capcom. Thank you.

I'll wait to get excited about this until they come out with a controller with a decent d-pad.
Though if the game is good enough, I just might get used to the analog stick (SSFIILJLFD will get me used to it).

I have a hard time believing this will come out for the Wii. If it does though, then that solves the good d-pad issue, you're right.

Maybe. I'll only like it if it has the original blue bomber(even though he had an incredibly annoying voice) instead of the edgier(crappier) Mega Man X.
