I actually played all the way through Killzone on one week, it was a boring week, but it was still good enough to keep me entertained. Didn't think it was a bad game personally.

But that was ages ago.

To me, adding more disk space is making the developers more lazy. I always believe that when you are limited, like George Lucas was with the OT, you tend to be more creative as you try to get past such limitations. When you are free to do whatever you want, like in the Prequels, you fuck up.

What I mean is this. Suppose 50 Cent Bulletproof was going to be made for PS3. With Blu Ray they can put in high-rez HD uncompressed textures, add loads of geometry and lighting, as well as make over 150 levels the size of Manhattan.

Guess what, they game will still fail. Why? Its 50 Cent Bulletproof. The game is way too boring, pointless and buggy to be played even on the N64. What you should do is pay attention to the design and see if gamers find your game fun, than worry about how much you can stuff into it.

I feel the same way about the whole "next gen HD" thing too. Tell me, what is the difference between a picture of a Turd on a SD TV and a TV at 1080p? NOTHING! ITS A TURD! NOBODY WANT TO WATCH A TURD NO MATTER WHAT RESOLUTION IT IS!

Or look at it this way, no amount of HD High-Rezness can fix the monstrosity that Terminator 3 was.

i know sidepock, i treat t3 like the matrix sequels, i try to pretend they don't exist

and a good game is still a good game, despite or because of graphics. people still play through the early final fantasies repeatedly, it certainly isn't because of graphics

I actually liked the Matrix Sequels, not as much as the first movie, but I thought they were good. However, I also understand why people did not like them, so I totally know what you mean.

My thing with it was that at least while they did screw up, they were still trying to follow the tone and continuity of the previous stuff. T3 was like the Star Wars Sequels...just one massively bad fan fiction. @,@;

Its starting too look like if your making a game for sony you have too throw in a tidbit about blu-ray or even siraxxis somewhere in a press release like it is in a contract....No one questions it not being needed for the game since it is a ps3 exclusive. What is questioned is the fact that it is needed for other games as we speak.

Seriously, if Phony is going to survive they need to stop having developers flapping there gums about the godliness of the PS3 and finally make games.

Hell all sony seems to do is say "my schwarts is bigger than yours".

Seriously, we might as well start calling the PS3 the PoS- Piece of shit.

One would think that since they can use a single grey pixel as every texture in their game that they wouldn't have any trouble fitting on a DVD.

Looks good but I bet the barely compress it at all and include more language tracks than just English and Japanese where a lot of space will be used up other than the graphics. I bet this game will end up either almost totally uncompressed or with a bunch of extra language tracks that most people won't use outside of their own language. Also the last game to look this good was Gears and well....look at it's color pallete as well as the vividness of it. I'm pretty sure this could just fit on the 360's DVD format and be just as good with the proper compression and possibly with only one audio set per region.(meaning Engish in US/UK, German in Germany, Japnesee in Japan etc.)

How can you or anyone else possibly know if it can fit on 1 DVD9? Are you from the future where the game has been released? Who knows how many levels there will be, vehicles, textures, sound etc.
I cannot believe how many times I read a comment from someone like they have PLAYED the game and completed it.

The lighting alone in this game is amazing. Who knows how much space differred rendering eats up. Check out this article on how advanced the lighting is in Killzone2. http://gamers-creed.com/?p=141

I doesn't matter what you put this on. It will never be Halo. You can argue it all you want. The word "Killzone" doesn't have the marketing power of "Halo". Sony would be wise to just stop trying to recreate and overtake Halo. It will NEVER happen.

I am not speaking from a fanboy point of view either. Case in point, not even Mario Galaxy will be able to pull the kind of brand power and cash intake that Halo 3 has so far, and will continue to do. I just don't understand this infatuation by Sony of creating "the next Halo" it's a lost cause. All they will ever be able to create is game that may get good reviews, sell decently, but will ALWAYS be labeled as "Sony's attempt to compete with Halo" because, in the end, it WILL NOT, under ANY circumstances be able to compete in terms of sales and brand power.

Sorry guys, it's the truth. Sony can push this "it's not possible on DVD" crap all day, people didn't buy into it with Resistance, why do they think they will all the sudden buy into it now? Any look at the US sales charts proves it so. Don't go on and on with that "It's selling better than the 360 in Japan and is selling better in Europe" crap either. This game isn't aimed at Japanese and European markets. It is solely created for the purpose of trying to get more people to buy a PS3 in North America, as is this marketing PR crap.

Sony is doing what they do best here just as they do in every other situation. They are simply mimicing the competition. They're key demographic in North America is the 18-24 age group. Halo has pretty much sold an XBOX or XBOX 360 to every run-of-the-mill 18-24 year old male from California to New York. It's been a huge success for Microsoft, so why not try to copy it? Wrong. It won't work. Sony, you need to come up with a fresh idea to rule the marketplace. Take a page from Nintendo and MS books and create something that the other guy DOESN'T have. In Nintendo's case it's the entire idea behind the Wii. In MS case it's Halo and XBOX Live!.

Stop trying to just copy everything and just create an idea of your own.

The only people that said that KillZone2 is a "halo-killer" is SDFs, which are their opinion. The developer for KZ2 never said any of that.

I was mainly a sports (Madden) fan until I played CoD2 on 360 when it launched so now I love playing shooters. But who really cares if Sony is trying to copy others. If it works, then it works. Other companies copy each other. People may not approve it but companies are gonna do whatever the hell they wanna do. It goes both ways. Hypocrisy and coping works for people. Halo nor Resistance never appealled to me cause I like realistic shooters. Whats so different if Sony wants to make a blockbuster shooter like Halo or M$ wanting to make RPGs like FF? Whether its HDDs, HDMI, "Rumble" or anything else, it goes both ways. I love gaming and as long as there is competing companies in gaming trying to overtake each other, it only makes better gaming in general.

Anyway, I dont know whether Blu-Ray is necessary or not but its a chance i had to take when I bought a PS3. People disagree with it being a standard in the PS3 but its what Sony decided to do. I think DVD will be obsolete eventually but who knows what or when that will happen. To me, this game does look good but only time will tell how it truly is when it is released.

Your post contains probably the dumbest comment I've read, and yet it's so well written, it almost SEEMS intelligent!

I've never once heard Sony or Nintendo claim any game to be a "Halo-killer." It'd be a waste of time to market the game to Halo fans. Halo fans already own 360s. If I was a diehard Halo fan, I would buy a 360 for it. It's just that kind of game, similar to how MGS4 and Final Fantasy are for PS3. They are system sellers.

To be perfectly honest, I don't care if Bluray is required for Killzone 2. I don't care if Xbox Live is God's gift to online gaming. For me, what matters is games I like and am interested in. I'm interested in FFXIII. I'm interested in MGS4. I'm not interested in Halo or any of the other major 360 games. I'm interested in playing my old PS2 game library again since both of my PS2's gave me the DRE of death (lawl)

So I bought a PS3. 500 bucks well spent, at least for me.

As for the marketing/moneymaking power of Halo 3...yeah, it's impressive and I don't think anyone will top it this year. But it's still about as interesting as Superman 64 to me.

Well put. But really, Sony is trying damn hard to make a great shooter with great online. Resistance is their best selling game. People in America like shooters right now. You can't blame them for trying. It is just annoying the smoke they blow up our asses. They push their products like a used car salesman would sometimes. It can be very sleezy and cheezy.

What has Killzone got to do with Halo? How bout the fact that ever since the original games release, Sony has been hyping this game up as the "Halo" killer. And of course as we all know, any game even remotely close to Halo will be compared to it.

This is why PS3 will fail.
Killzone developers need to use Blu Ray so they can show all the games graphics in high detail no compression. Fill in some parts of the game with high uncompressed FMV CGI. They want to be able to get the best possible looking game that regular DVD wouldn't be able to hold.

Thus they ignore the bigger picture, that is to make the game play itself good. Hasn't Sony devs realized graphics doesn't make the game. Killzone 2 looks like it will be just a another AA.

Seriously guys, this game looks stellar and i think sony should be credited on something that looks just as amazing. I don't know why everyone is crediting dsub, no one even sony mentioned anything about this being a halo killer, so why bring that in? It's like saying: "Oh noes killzone on ps2 is teh halo 2 killer.." You guys make it seem that every sci-fi shooter the ps3 coughs up is trying to kill halo or the 360; strangely this was all fine and dnady on the ps2 or winning console at the time. people were crying about the dvds at the launch of ps2 and praising the dreamcast for its CD format it still used, guess who ran outta space down the road? The dreamcast. Guys, please do some thinking before you spurt out a load of shit. Blu-ray may be a neccesity as they seem like not using any compression on their texture formats and may even include DTS-HD audio in game! Who knows? I hope YOU guys not try to be a load of smart asses and act like u've developed and played the game to know how it is like.

I'm sick on this blu-ray thing,
I have a PS3 and bought only one Blu-ray video and it was the worst HD EVER.
have anyone saw 300 in HD? it was a super HD grany effect..

the only thing that could use the Blu-ray in game is if they do a compilation. like final fantasy compilation or metal gear solid compilation. but .. that won't happen.

I'm sick of people whining about it. It's a new format. In 2 year Blu ray will be close to as cheap as dvd. Did you ever think of that? People whined about DVD because it was expensive, but after a couple of years it was just as cheap as cd. When PS3 first came out blu ray players were $1000. Now they are $499.99. PS3 in a couple of weeks will be only $50 more than the 20gb for the 40gb That gets you twice the HDD. an HD player. Wifi and free online service. Hell with the online service your spending the $50 difference. Blu ray = more space. and when the prices continue to come down this will not be a bad thing. and if you don't want a PS3 and don't care about blu ray? Well good for you I don't care what you think

Unless it's recorded in HD, you wont get HD. However, HD versions of older films have been digitally enhanced and can reach larger resolutions from their original film reel to produce greater qualitiy. So yes, technically, older films aren't HD, but are improved in quality from HD formats.

Here is a copy and paste for you cause I'm lazy, but your "Converted to HD" statement is bunk.

there are around 20 million "quality" pixels in a top-quality 35mm shot.

What this means is that a 5300 x 4000 digital camera would produce a shot equivalent to a scan from a quality 35mm camera

How many pixels in a frame of 35mm film?

A 1920x1080 HD signal is only 2 million.

Should be able to salvage enough resolution on old film to make a decent picture.

Games developed specifically for the PS3 will be better than those on the 360. Period. Just look at Heavenly Sword, Liar (which undisputedly is a workhorse, even if you don't like the controls), Uncharted, Ratchet and Clank, and on and on. If developers switched to making the PS3 as their primary console to develop on, then ported it to the 360, you'd see different results. But developers are sticking with what they know, presumably, to cut costs.
