Roadievision: See the Rock Band drum kit setup
Fresh off his triumphant tour, melting our faces off with his Guitar Hero III controller disassembly video, MTV's Stephen Totilo is back on the road only, this time, he's traded in his axe for the drums. After the break, watch as Multiplayer's frontman handily disassembles Rock Band's most cumbersome peripheral. His time: a blistering 31 seconds. Let's see how quickly he can do it ... in reverse! A measly 41 seconds (c'mon, and he was showboating the entire time).
Yes, we're nervous about messing this up in front of the whole crew, so we've been watching the video over and over trying to perfect our strategy. I think we can shave it down to under 20 seconds ... we know, it sounds crazy! Also, it's still hard to tell, but we hope the whole rig fits in ourtouring rock wagon hall closet.

[sarcasm] great comment, really insightful [/sarcasm]
Personally, I am really excited for rockband & the kit looks sweet... i really hope the foot pedal stays put when you're wailing away at it..
XanthouS @ Oct 17th 2007 1:40PM
That's fine. Keep playing "teh halowez" with your online "friends", we'll be in my apartment throwing down some Enter Sandman. Maybe we'll invite your nephew over.
Vegnagun @ Oct 17th 2007 1:59PM
It's a trap! Run, Brian's nephew, run!

Looks good but I want the cowbell instead.

I'd like to get good enough to wear golden diapers too, Mr. Bruce Dickinson.

Easy, guys. I put my pants on just like the rest of you - one leg at a time. Except, once my pants are on, I make gold records.

All I want to be able to do is place the appropriate drums in my own place. Even if I have to buy another rack separately, I want to set it up like my drum kit.
Ed @ Oct 17th 2007 1:18PM
I am a drummer too and I am having real issues with the drum setup. Not to mention they failed to include a hi-hat pedal, one of the most versatile instruments in drumming. The hi-hat pedal would have made people playing drums use all 4 limbs, much like a real drummer.
Shagittarius @ Oct 17th 2007 2:15PM
Lets hope we can modify them and they eventually release a hi-hat add-on.
Chris Cortes @ Oct 17th 2007 1:22PM
Looks good to me. I was worried about how much space this thing was gonna take up, but I guess that problem was just solved.
JLC @ Oct 17th 2007 1:26PM
it's a video game people, i don't remember hearing much complaining that the guitars only have ONE STRING!
Imbeciles
Crono (NDF - Knight of the Old School) @ Oct 17th 2007 1:57PM
By that logic, we shouldn't be allowed to bitch even if they included only 1 drum.
I had hoped they would have set up this drum kit with 2 sensors on each drum, one for the head, and one for the rim. Rims could be mapped to cymbal crashes, and then you would only need the 1 drum for snare and hi-hat sounds.
As it is, one of your drums is going to be taken up by your hi-hat sometimes, and the snare other times, but when solo time comes, you're going to be extrememly limited in what you can do.
Maybe if there was a toggle pedal that would change all the drums to cymbals. Whatever, I'm still getting it.
Eric Monse @ Oct 17th 2007 1:28PM
Sweet drums! I wonder how durable they are.
Spartacus @ Oct 17th 2007 1:39PM
I realize this is a game and a highly unrealistic one, but as a drummer, playing this contraption will be difficult and frustrating. As a game controller, it's ok, but if they wanted to offer a drum kit, they should've stuck to a flat drum pad with 7+ pads (hi-hat, ride, crash, snare and 3 toms) rather than try to immitate a real drum set up while sucking so bad at it.
The guitars look like guitars.
The mics look like mics.
This looks like an infant's toy.
Why do drummers always get the shaft?!
FOXHOUND @ Oct 17th 2007 1:45PM
At least now I have more reasons to add on why I drink more than the rest of the band.
Crono (NDF - Knight of the Old School) @ Oct 17th 2007 1:59PM
Its cool spartacus, we always get the shaft, but we're always giving it to the groupies.
Chicks digg the drummers, way more than the guitarists.
Shagittarius @ Oct 17th 2007 2:18PM
You guys know what you call a guy who hangs out with musicians right?
Spartacus @ Oct 17th 2007 2:20PM
Gee, I don't know Shag... Try scrolling down a few posts ;-)
Mauricio @ Oct 17th 2007 1:40PM
My question is how much "Feedback" with the Bass/Kick Pedal have? will it have the approriate "Response" after i press on it with my foot? will it pop back up into place quickly much like normal Bass pedals? also will i be able to rest my foot on the pedal without it being pressed in?
Mauricio @ Oct 17th 2007 1:43PM
Hey, What do you call the person that hangs out with 4 Musicians?
...
A DRUMMER!
BA-DUM-TSsst
Spartacus @ Oct 17th 2007 1:57PM
Funny.
What do you call a talented rock quartet without a drummer?
...
Homeless!
Ok, so the joke isn't good, but I seriously can't stand it when people make percussionists out to be 2nd class musicians. It takes a heck of a lot of talent and control to be a good kit player. A good drummer is doing 4x the work of the lead man in a band and is prbably THE most critical instrumentalist.
I won't say we're better than anyone else, or more important, but certainly not any less important than anyone else. We do however receive the least amount of respect, which makes me lose sleep at night...
Mauricio @ Oct 17th 2007 1:51PM
Tell that to Rick Allen, Ed!
Boss Tempo @ Oct 17th 2007 1:57PM
Where's the little hand cranky thing that plays "All Around The Mulberry Bush"? My 3 year old niece will love it. Does the little pedal laugh like Elmo when you stomp on it?
Just when gamers finally start shaking their dorky/nerdy reputations, Milton Bradley comes along and fucks it up for everyone.
andyg8180 @ Oct 17th 2007 2:35PM
I think he stole the drum-kit... Did you hear the cops in the background??
Spiral Prophet @ Oct 17th 2007 2:52PM
What did the drummer do when he locked his keys in his car???
spent 2 hours trying to figure out how to get the bass player out of the back seat...
James @ Oct 17th 2007 5:04PM
Being a drummer it's obvious you have no clue that the guitars really don't resemble real guitars either. They are just as awkward for real guitarists to play.
LAZoftheTamarinds @ Oct 17th 2007 5:18PM
Looks great!
Nako @ Oct 17th 2007 8:50PM
Is there a lefty toggle for the hi-hat and snare?
david @ Nov 29th 2007 8:20AM
I want a high hat too, but I want it to sound and feel just like a real one....I want a deep kick drum with plenty of punch...a snare with the woody sound and depth of an 8" vintage Yamaha RC....Paiste signature crashes and splashes....Sonor Phonic Plus toms.....a nice roc n soc throne.....oh! and please make the shells from 9 ply bubinga wood. Thanks and let me know when this happens. I'm ready to rock and refuse to adapt to anything other than a real set.....unless they make them at least as good as a set of Roland V drums with the TD 20 module......let me know when that happens too.....I'll use the Rock Band set for real live concert/studio play.....That'd be great.....hurry up and fix it!!...Oh........please also throw in a few pairs of Steve Gadd signature sticks with nylon tips.

As you all may as well discover when playing this game, when your rocking out on the drums, you tend to hear that noise that you just cant do away with unless you crank up the tv. Well, I found a solution for it without turning the TV way up, letting you actualy enjoy the sound of the game, instead of the sound that your drum kit is making.
This site rockbanddrumpads.com offers a sleak option of 2 mm pads that just apply right to your drum kit and make the sound disappear almost completely. It is very affordable (27$ with shipping included) and looks very nice. Alot nicer then the standard drum kit I think.

So if your tired of hearing your drums over the song, give this a try.
