Rock Band reveals less-than-rocking Achievements list
You'd think improved rhythm, a better singing voice and a killer guitar stance would be achievements enough for Rock Band players. But no! Apparently some people won't be satisfied until their rocking is recognized by some arbitrary points system and broadcast to the world. For those people, Da King 420 has revealed the Xbox 360 Achievements list for the eagerly-anticipated rhythm game. The bulk of the points (580 in all) come just from beating the career mode with each instrument and difficulty level, unlocking the game's 16 locales along the way. Most of the rest comes from unlocking various extras or achieving certain scores on Expert songs.
We're a little surprised that a game about that crazy, devil-may-care world of rock music has such a buttoned-down Achievements list. Then again, it would probably be hard to grant points for the ability to play behind your back or juggle drumsticks on stage or bite the head off a bat or something. I guess we'll just have to make up your own arbitrary point system for those kinds of things.

Sorry, I didn't read your comment. I just automatically clicked on the "-" sign. My apologies.

good thing i don't care about achievements
I'm also not getting rock band anytime soon though
gir @ Oct 17th 2007 9:17PM
wait...wait..just hold on a sec. EA is making this!!!
How long have I been frozen??
XanthouS @ Oct 17th 2007 9:25PM
MAKING is a strong word. They're involved. They're putting up a chunk of change. It's being developed, or MADE, by the Harmonix team, the same ladies and gents who brought us Frequency, Amplitude and the first two Guitar Heroes.
gir @ Oct 17th 2007 9:31PM
Hence, how long have I been frozen?? heh! and here I thought EA is working on making something everyone enjoys. Typical EA. When will they ever learn that money doesn't mean everything.
blooh (CDF - Nipple Ring) @ Oct 17th 2007 9:33PM
EA made skate, which is a pretty good game. it's gay though, how there's so much advertising and none of that revenue made the game cheaper

Love how the link is broken...

Hey there,
I am working on getting the site back up...
blooh (CDF - Nipple Ring) @ Oct 17th 2007 9:32PM
it probably doesn't help that it's being hammered by joystiq readers

Ok, wait. So now we're criticizing the Achievements Lists of unreleased games? Do we really have so little to do with our spare time that we have to pour over the minutiae of available information and mock it?
Which would you rather have, silly crazy achievements or an awesome game that is fun to play and rocks out?

Yup.

I really liked the achievements considering they aren't as ridiculous as the GH III ones.
RT @ Oct 17th 2007 9:55PM
Wow. What a stupid title for this. As if achievements even mean anything to begin with. Developers are forced to put them in all 360 games. You were expecting them to really care? I'd worry about games with thought-out achievements if that's where their efforts are going instead of into the actual meat of the game.
tmacairjordan87 @ Oct 17th 2007 10:36PM
achievements dont mean anything?

You should get an achievement as soon as you turn it on.. for saving up that much money to spend on a game.
blooh (CDF - Nipple Ring) @ Oct 17th 2007 10:05PM
well would you rather get a 2nd job for a ps3, or for a good game to play on your 360?
:p
CaptainAmericaX @ Oct 17th 2007 10:49PM
ohhh nice one blooh...
And yeah achievements are cool and all...I admit to being obsessed with them when it comes to games that truly interest me.
Bioshock for instance. I'm almost all the way there when it comes to all 1000 points. Working on Halo 3 as well.
But they're not the be all end all of MS and the 360...
Besides the ps3 has NO achievements at all...so why is this is even a big deal?
blooh (CDF - Nipple Ring) @ Oct 17th 2007 11:21PM
well the ps3 will have "trophies" if home ever gets released
and i never care about achievements, i even forgot about them for a few months. I'll make up my own challenges in games if they seem easy enough for a self-challenge to be hard and intersting
like in bioshock, i tried to kill every daddy a different way
Word of the street(IDF-Digital Ruler). @ Oct 18th 2007 1:11AM
You can always count on Ea for easy achievements, the only complication is having the instruments.
Psaakyrn @ Oct 18th 2007 1:31AM
There's nothing wrong with giving player extra objectives (key word: EXTRA). The question is whether they need to be made public, aka ingame "secret unlocking" vs public badges.
ThornedVenom @ Oct 18th 2007 1:45AM
I'm not a 360 user, so I am not able to understand the importance of achievements.
Sure, achievements seem more appropriate context-wise in a game like this (for game design perspectives), but are they really that important?
But I guess that achievements are what makes the 360 so special in the first place... heck, it could become a next-gen standard.
blooh (CDF - Nipple Ring) @ Oct 18th 2007 1:48AM
i don't understand why ppl care about it either
but apparently it is a nextgen standard, since sony is putting them in home, whenever it's released
whymog @ Oct 18th 2007 2:03AM
There are seventeen venues announced.
Calling bullshit.
pwnetheus @ Oct 18th 2007 8:38AM
