Rumorang: Okami on Wii
Sure, we've heard this one come around before – most recently an issue of EGM had rumors of a Wii version of Okami in development by Capcom – but with all this Capcom Gamer's Day excitement going on, we're inclined to give this rumor the time of day. The Wii would appear to be a perfect fit for the brushstroke gameplay in Okami and Capcom did port over Resident "Wii"-vil 4; both supporting rationales which keep this rumor coming back.
Now, according to French website Jeuxactu.com, Capcom's Okami has been "confirmé" for the Nintendo Wii. The site goes on to say -- in our machine-translated copy -- that the game is expected in early 2008, although no source for the information is given.

I'll buy it. I remember thinking when playing it on PS2 "God, this analogue to brush mechanic would be so much better on the DS. Too bad the wii isn't out yet, it would be perfect for it."
creid @ Oct 17th 2007 6:26PM
I don't understand how anyone who actually played the game can think the Wii is really necessary for this. The brushing is, what, 10% of the game? Most of the game is running around, talking, and fighting.
Lemmiwinks @ Oct 17th 2007 7:16PM
Necessary? Not really. But some of us who've never owned a PS2 (and don't really want to buy one) would love the opportunity to give it a spin.
Crono (NDF - Knight of the Old School) @ Oct 17th 2007 7:24PM
Yep, never owned it on PS2. Played a rental, returned it.
samfish (MSDF- Nurse Outfit!) @ Oct 17th 2007 11:22PM
The only thing that makes me kind of hesitant about a Wii version is the apparent lack of a camera control stick. You have to do a good deal of really precise platforming in Okami and it really helps to be able to control the camera on the fly.
But as for the rest of the game, the running around and talking part isn't a big deal. The Wiimote could even maybe make the fighting a little more fluid as it would potentially allow you to preform the Brush Techniques on the fly, rather than effectively pause the game in order to paint.

Please be true
CaptainAmericaX @ Oct 17th 2007 6:02PM
I might buy it...if only to see what all the fuss/hype is about...
vgxtremist @ Oct 17th 2007 6:05PM
I missed this game on the PS2...shame on me.
Alan @ Oct 17th 2007 8:01PM
me too. i've been holding off on grabbing a ps2 copy in hopes that I can get it for the Wii.
phattie @ Oct 17th 2007 6:05PM
Its funny that the best selling Capcom games for Wii are last gen. ports... and, who is doing the porting now that Clover isnt around no more.
DonWii @ Oct 17th 2007 6:07PM
Considering those are the only games Capcom has put out....
Once their original titles arrive later this y...
Why do I even bother with a troll...
i_hate_mtv @ Oct 17th 2007 6:30PM
Lost Planet on PS3.
gir @ Oct 17th 2007 6:49PM
WOW!! It didn't take much time until you got wiped out! I'm starting to wonder if anyone is even reading your comments anymore. They're just probably voting you down automatically now.
i_hate_mtv @ Oct 17th 2007 11:50PM
Yeah, pretty much. I don't even need to read his posts to know that they contain no logic whatsoever.
DonWii @ Oct 17th 2007 6:06PM
If they do a RE4 and price it at $30, I'm sold.
Mr Khan @ Oct 17th 2007 6:06PM
It would make a lot of sense. Capcom's Wii strategy seems to be mostly about making GOOD budget titles, and this would fit neatly into that, and possibly actually make them some money on that dismal sales failure
Shagittarius @ Oct 17th 2007 6:16PM
The Wii is quickly becoming the dollar theater for last gen games. Except they cost the same price as a new movie...and theres a clapper in the theater that you have to trigger to keep the movie playing.
Mr Khan @ Oct 17th 2007 6:26PM
Nope, i won't rise to the bait..
Who will take on the troll? Who will perform this deadly feat of daring-do? Five bucks to fight the troll!
megaStryke @ Oct 17th 2007 6:27PM
You know, this is one of the few games that gamers demanded should be ported to the Wii. Think you can let your irrational hatred slide a little on this one?

If by the same price you mean 40% cheaper....
Hoffy @ Oct 17th 2007 10:44PM
Troll or not, I thought it was funny at least.
samfish (MSDF- Nurse Outfit!) @ Oct 17th 2007 11:24PM
MegaStryke is right. It doesn't count when it's a port people have been ASKING for for well over a year.
Meloche @ Oct 17th 2007 6:17PM
If it's cheap, I might buy it. I really want to try it, but can't because I don't have a PS2...
Rob @ Oct 17th 2007 6:19PM
I never got round to getting this on PS2, so I'd definitely get this. And please, please, no-one take Shaggitarius' bait. Please.
NATO_Duke @ Oct 17th 2007 6:21PM
Oh man, the hook set - but lucky for me the line snapped in time.
Ranko @ Oct 17th 2007 6:28PM
Do not deny the people, Capcom. Make this game.
i_hate_mtv @ Oct 17th 2007 6:31PM
I already played this on PS2, but I'll buy it again anyway because I wanna see a sequel made.
mr nimblewick (SegaDF - Jogurt Ring) @ Oct 17th 2007 6:32PM
This isn't going to be a port to the Wii. It was obviously designed for the Wii, but since it wasn't out byt the time the game was finished, they put it on the PS2 instead.
i_hate_mtv @ Oct 17th 2007 6:32PM

Donald @ Oct 17th 2007 7:52PM
Wouldn't be the same without Clover developing it, though.
i_hate_mtv @ Oct 17th 2007 11:53PM
Well, the majority of Clover's staff still works at Capcom (I think), so they can't fuck it up too much.
i_hate_mtv @ Oct 17th 2007 6:33PM
Sorry about the double post
gir @ Oct 17th 2007 6:40PM
This would be good on the Wii, but why can't they just make new games on the Wii. No I don't mean zack and wiki whatever that game is called. Why can't we get games like devil may cry, lost planet, resident evil, or maybe the new street fighter game.
Oh, if only Brawl could come out sooner I wouldn't be complaining.
Sidepocket @ Oct 17th 2007 6:48PM
If they port it this could be very good, why?
Even though RE4 got much acclaim, on the Gamecube it did not sell very well. So they ported it to the PS2, but not even that console was taking the bait.
But as soon as they ported it to the Wii, the game became an uber cash cow.
My idea is that the audience is now different, meaning that while Okami sold poorly on the PS2...it could achieve a new renewed life on the Wii.
i_hate_mtv @ Oct 17th 2007 7:01PM
I thought RE4 sold well on PS2. But then again, I could be wrong.
Blast Processing Megadrive @ Oct 17th 2007 7:19PM
The GameCube version sold about 1.6 million worldwide. The PS2 version sold about 2 million worldwide.

http://ir.capcom.co.jp/english/data/million.html
Kaemon @ Oct 17th 2007 7:55PM
I can see that being considered a failure.
GCN had a much smaller Install base and it sold 1.6, while the PS2 with its huge one only sold 2 million, makes sense actually. They probably thought it would sell much more on the PS2 then it did.
colin @ Oct 17th 2007 8:23PM
wii owners were starving for a AAA title. RE4 was it. Gamecube and PS2 had plenty of AAA titles by the time RE4 came out. Same thing with PS3 owners and Ninja Gaiden Sigma.
ThornedVenom @ Oct 17th 2007 6:57PM
Should I be happy that Capcom is making Okami on Wii because they're part of the better bunch of developers who know how to use motion sensing? Or should I be worried by the fact that the Wii is still getting PS2 ports?
Sidepocket @ Oct 17th 2007 7:21PM
PS3 is getting 360 ports, 360 is getting many PC ports and DS is STILL getting N64 ports.
I think instead of worrying about porting games, we should be more worried about the quality of such ports.
Blast Processing Megadrive @ Oct 17th 2007 7:13PM
Don't think of it as a port, think of it as the Nintendo version GameCube didn't get. ;)
Seriously, I don't get what's with all the hate for ports. Almost every multi-plat title is a port except on the leading platform.
With the last gen, most multi-plat titles were on PS2, then ported to Xbox and GameCube (If GCN at all, as its low sales in America often made it go by unnoticed by publishers/developers). With this gen, most multi-plat titles are made on 360, then ported to PS3.
With the exception of RE4 (as far as I can recall), pretty much all of the PS2 ports were never on GameCube.
And with RE4, it's more of a GameCube port (since it's graphically closer to the GCN version than the PS2 version), but with the PS2 exclusive content added in. Oh, and Wii-specific controls (which from what I've heard, work pretty well).
Would Wii original titles be great? Of course. I, for one, am looking forward to Capcom's Zack and Wiki (not only is it a new IP, but it's a Wii original game, too). But ports, especially well-done ports of good games, are not a bad thing, either.
flameofdoom666 @ Oct 17th 2007 7:31PM
I agree.
hydralisk456 @ Oct 17th 2007 10:13PM
Well said, but it still won't get the trolls to stop.
Questworld @ Oct 17th 2007 11:05PM
As long as it's a good game that I want, I don't mind if it's a PS2 port. If it's a game that doesn't interest me, I don't care if it's an original ground up title for the Wii/360/PS3. I'd take a great port of MGS3 than an original like Elebits. I'd take a 480p MGS3 over a high def Spiderman 3. Essentially I want great games (at least great games to me) and as far as graphics go I think last gen is the bottom of 3D graphics that I'd accept (not just any last gen graphics mind you, but the best examples of great graphics of the last generation). I personally never cared for PS1 and N64's 3D graphics.
Ethan @ Oct 17th 2007 7:55PM
I'd like to add that I'd buy it too. Hopefully at an RE4 Wii-sized price. Seeing as "buy it" already occurs five times in the comments - surely it's worth it?
I just want it in Widescreen, with a bit of a longer draw distance, those two problems being the only things that I thought impinged on the game's style.
JodyAnthony @ Oct 17th 2007 8:00PM
I will get it day one. Okami is my fourth favorite PS2 game (behind Suikoden 5, Suikoden 4, and Star Ocean: TTEOT)
why not the LS2/LS7? @ Oct 17th 2007 8:10PM
Fantastic, now it can flop on another platform!
If it can't fly on a platform with 100M customers, it isn't going to sell better on one with 11M.
I loved the game, BTW.
But if all the people on here saying they "missed it" aren't picking it up for PS2 right now used for $35 on PS2, they aren't going to pick it up new on Wii for $50.
