GT5 Prologue demo coming Oct 20 in Japan
Japanese racing fanatics (and international racing fanatics with Japanese accounts) can rejoice. A demo for Gran Turismo 5 Prologue is coming to the Japanese PlayStation Network on October 20. Given the futuristic nature of the country (it's currently early morning Friday), that's less than 24 hours from this time of publication.
According to the press release (via Rocket Punch Auto Blog), the trial includes seven cars and one course (Suzuka). There is no online play but single-player races for up to 16 cars. Video service Gran Turismo TV will also be included with reports from 40th Tokyo Motor Show.
No word on a demo release outside of Japan. GT5 Prologue is due outthis year next year, according to the official PS blog.

WiNG @ Oct 18th 2007 4:32PM
wow nice friggin graphics.
GT was the one game I was always jealous I couldn't have b/c I didn't have PS1/2/3
GTR2 on PC is nice but just doesn't have the style and polish of GT

So frustrating....hopefully Sony will do a Christmas thing like they did last year and give us our copy.
Till then, it's DiRT, Rally and Motorstorm for me.

Just start a Japanese account. Then you can have it in the morning.
Here is a walkthrough on how to set one up if you don't already know how:

Can't wait. I reckon there will be some fired up Dirtbox360 owners, with their crappy PGR4 tommorrow..
Vidikron (FU) @ Oct 18th 2007 5:02PM
What does that even mean?
Konny @ Oct 18th 2007 4:58PM
Not including online play is a mistake; that will be a huge selling point for the final version.
B1gC72 @ Oct 18th 2007 10:58PM
i think the no online play is just for the demo of the demo, not the actual demo or retail version. just the way i read it, though i have been wrong b4.
whookid @ Oct 18th 2007 5:00PM
What? Is this a demo of GT5 prologue. Like.. a demo of.. a demo. Sony need to hurry up and just release GT5 altogether.
copa @ Oct 18th 2007 5:12PM
This isn't the demo for the free demo of GT5 that came out last year. This is the demo for the paid demo that will be coming out next year.
Understand? Because I sure as hell don't.
FidliousWong @ Oct 18th 2007 5:42PM
I know, ZOMG! Copa, this is something like NEVER done before. This prologue nonsense makes no sense. And it's so new too, never been done on PSX or PS2. Oh, wait.

Damn, well that shoots that theory to shit. Let's go over the GTs of the PS3, shall we?
GTHD: The original prologue that would have been entirely free as the initial software. But as cars and tracks were introduced, players could purchase them as they wanted. And it would have 16 player online races and campaign circuits. But Americans and their damn tendacy to bitch and whine and moan about a business plan already proven successful and reasonable in several asian markets finally made Sony give up the ghost on this project and release what was done.
GT5: Prologue. Like the prologues of the past, never leaving asian markets, it was a paid portion of the upcoming game. Unlike a demo which had a track and a few cars, prologue releases are usually sizable with roughly 5-7 tracks and about 50 cars. They serve entirely as fan service to keep the fanbase excited. However, since such moves are rarely seen or even understood by American audiences (see: copa's comment), it's doubtful this will leave the asian market.
GT5: The full release, still over 9 months away. Too long for many, enter prologue. Cue bitching about the "selling" of a demo and rants about how this is confusing.
In other words, just wait for GT5. It's all Sony expected you to do anyway...
It really is people like you keeping me from Everybody's Golf 5...
blooh (TIDF - Nipple Ring) @ Oct 19th 2007 3:23AM
how long does it really take to make a car game? they get released all the time, it seems like. why do you need a demo of a demo of the game?
jeez, crazy asians
Greg2k @ Oct 18th 2007 5:00PM
LOL, it says LOS ANGELS on one of the screenshots xD
The1 @ Oct 18th 2007 5:06PM
I do mean to be coy. so! If the game is not releasing here in the US tomorrow, who really cares. We will have to wait and wait and wait.
Will @ Oct 18th 2007 5:36PM
why do you have to wait? create a japanese user account and download it, it's pretty simple to do
Vidikron (FU) @ Oct 18th 2007 5:09PM
Looks like I'll be logging onto my Japanese PSN account to get this.
Rob Accomando @ Oct 18th 2007 5:26PM
is there going to be a prologue for the demo of the prologue?
ARU @ Oct 18th 2007 8:36PM
They're releasing the demo to coincide with the Tokyo Motor Show.
TJ0331 @ Oct 18th 2007 5:41PM
Man, people will bitch about anything, even if it means FREE gaming. "What? They are putting out a demo, thats stupid" They could put a demo of a soon to be demo of a soon to be demo and you bet my ass will be downloading it. Why? Cause it gives us a chance to try out a product. Nobody bitches about getting accepted into closed betas...
Matt B @ Oct 18th 2007 7:20PM
Its a Sony thread, it tends to bring out the whiners.
blooh (CDF - Nipple Ring) @ Oct 18th 2007 11:16PM
and the morons
gregory mitchell @ Oct 19th 2007 10:41PM
its not about free or not. Its only $60 so that cant be the case its the point that the game is taking so long. IMO if your not releasing a game soon (a couple of months) and its been oin development for a few years......then shut the fuck up about it. Talk to me when you have a release date. Dont tell me every six months that some sort of a demo is coming out. By the time this actully comes out i really wont care anymore.
