Hellgate: London demo available now on GameDaily
A day before it busts out of hell everywhere, the Hellgate: London single player demo is available at GameDaily today. No stupid logins or signing up, just download and go. Hellgate: London is the long awaited first game by Flagship Studios, whose development team consists of old Blizzard employees that worked on Diablo, Warcraft and StarCraft.
The 1.5GB Hellgate: London demo will allow players to choose from two of the six available classes in the full game: "The swashbuckling melee action of the Blademaster or long-range killing action of the Marksman." The demo is a good chance to get a taste for what lurks in London before its Halloween launch (Nov. 2 for Europe).

Their print ads are awful and feel a decade out of place. Poor job advert dept. Game looks good though through the photos ive seen.

i never play a mmo anywhere near launch date, they always nerf classes within the first month or 2 and it's usually pretty buggy too
jsn @ Oct 18th 2007 2:36PM
it's not an mmo..
blooh (CDF - Nipple Ring) @ Oct 18th 2007 5:43PM
you subscribe but it's not a mmo? weird
WiNG @ Oct 18th 2007 2:38PM
So they still have that whole paid/gimped model?
Has anyone played this demo yet? How is it?
TwistedBishop @ Oct 18th 2007 3:44PM
Not exactly "gimped". If you don't pay the monthly subscription fee, you won't get access to new content they push through the patching system (ala Heroes with their "issues") and you get lesser versions of some things (less bank space, etc).
The out-of-the-box singleplayer campaign will be the same for everyone.

I heard the game is repetitive, even though everything is random.
Blazur @ Oct 18th 2007 5:20PM
'Repetitive'
Ouch...that's a harsh word to use as criticism when describing a game. Randomness can't really fill the void when a game isn't enjoyable to play over time...and that's a huge problem with your typical RPG.
Oddly enough, Diablo 2 never really felt repetitive to me. Even after playing through it several times with the same character. It will be interesting to see if these guys can match the same fun factor with Hellgate.
MooseMuffin @ Oct 18th 2007 3:46PM
Interesting. I read this story and then 30 minutes later a Hellgate beta invite lands in my mailbox.

HOW IS?
Zarim @ Oct 18th 2007 5:12PM
45 kb/s... looks like I'll be playing this some time tomorrow.

If you liked Diablo, chances are you'll like this too. It's randomly generated dungeons in an action rpg game with portals and powers, things to kill and things to collect. It's good times for me and my friends :)

I have been waiting for this game! Downloading the demo now, thanks Joystiq

I hope I'm not the only one how as incredibly underwhelmed. This is mediocrity, plain and simple. Great presentation, poor game.
Mr Chalk @ Oct 19th 2007 5:52AM
Ugh its awfull
When will rpg makers realise that to incorporate FPS principals you need to have good gun play. Making your aim shonky cos you dont have the required skills or xp is just the lamest idea ever.
The best thing about FPS games is winning through skill not stats.
Oh and the games really boring.
Ecksem Diem @ Oct 19th 2007 9:24PM
Jesus... The demo turned this game from a "buy at the store on release day and feverishly install as quickly as humanly possible" to a "wait until it hits the bargain bin, and then CONSIDER picking it up".
