Do you remember when your fake ID couldn't fool the bouncer, leaving you outside sober, cold, and distanced from the girl you were looking to at least play ball with? That's kind of how we're feeling right now, after learning on the latest Kojima Productions podcast that there are no plans to bring a demo of Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots to the PlayStation Store prior to launch.
Host Ryan Payton stated: "I can tell you, as of right now, we don't have any plans of uploading this demo on the PlayStation Store." And definitely, he added, no plans of "uploading [on PSN] next week." His statements were echoed by Konami's new flak master, Michael Shelling, adding "[E for All] is going to be your one chance to actually play it prior to it launching next year."
Yeah, while this news is certainly a crushing blow to the Metal Gear Solid fan base (many of which help run Joystiq), there was at least a little positive news: Shelling revealed that Konami has gone gold with Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops+, and is planning to release the game on November 13. That's a little antiseptic to the wound, no?

by this point people should know whether they like mgs or not. I don't. But if they're not sure, they can play the old ones, as long as they didn't get the 40gb ps3

Agreed. I chalk it up to the same folks who enjoy HALO, FINAL FANTASY, any Nintendo 1st Party Titles, and etc. I really don't think too many people are on the fence about these titles... It's a matter of whether you like it or you don't. I'm fine with not having a demo, since I'll be playing MPO+ probably up until that point.

Yeah but I don't want a demo to see if I'm going to like the game. I want the demo for some MGSForeplay before the big passionate night.

I agree. I think Konami can be pretty confident gamers know Metal Gear Solid 4 will be the must-have PS3 game. Now a demo for Lair would have been a lot more helpful. It might have helped people experience and understand the controversial motion controls (which I personally liked). But yay for Portable Ops+. I still haven't bought the first one, so now I have a + reason to!

Demos are only good if they're going to entice the player into purchasing the game. If it'll deter the possible consumer from spending 60 bucks, then it's a terrible idea. ET:Quake Wars lost my interest with the demo they released. Good for me, not for them.

so you're sad because a major title isn't putting out a demo, just like all major titles? I'm kind of glad there's no demo. Part of the fun of playing these games is experiencing everything for the first time when you get the game, not through some cocktease demo

most xbox games these days put out demos, and they usually increase sales. Like stranglehold, nobody knew if that would be fun or not, and it turned out it was, especially if you hate fruit :)

Lol...FINE I'll bite.
The demo is not being released because the game probably isn't the trouble.
There I said it...happy now?
I must admit though I thought this was coming out in 2008?
And why is this not on a single bluray disc with MGS4? I mean for all the harping that Joystiq does about the extreme extra s[ace that bluray provides they're not capable of putting a single game together that has both the 1 player and Multiplayer components?

Well, I dont know really how many hours of game play it will have. Probably like 2 hours of gameplay and 65 hours of cut scenes. This more of a movie than a game. But hey thats what PS3 fanboys like right? Movies. Because thats all that door stop really does is play blu-ray movies.

I have to say, this is bringing out the petulant whiner in me. The demo exists, it's finished, the work is done. All they need to do is upload to PSN and flip a switch. So... why not? What's stopping them? They could at least give us their reasons.

This will be the first MGS game without a demo. Guess they can't afford to pull people from the team porting it to the 360 to make a PSN demo...

I highly doubt that MGS4 needs a demo to sell PS3s. Well, I guess that's the logic behind it all, hence why they don't spend extra time for extra stuff like promotion via demos.

What "extra time"? What "extra stuff"? The demo is already done. How much effort could it possibly take to put it on the network?
