Punch Out's Little Mac to appear in Smash Bros. Brawl

The green gloves, the at-the-ready stance, that uppercut ... it can't be! It is! It's Little Mac, the boxer that (ocassionaly) beat Mike Tyson in Punch-Out, set to appear in Super Smash Bros. Brawl! The only way we could be more excited is if he was a playable character. Yeah, you read that right. Apparently, much like Rocky Balboa, the past-his-prime sweet scientist can only handle brief bouts before risking his health.

OK, so maybe he's only going to be an Assist Trophy more than an actual fighter, but it's hard for us to not get a little excited (read: teary-eyed and nostalgic) about seeing Little Mac digitized for a new generation to enjoy. As it says on the official Smash Bros. blog: "Resurrecting this legend for the current generation is something we can all enjoy just a bit." We couldn't agree more.

I think its awesome. I can only hope for king hippo,a starman, an eggplant wizard, Mr. Gamenwatch, and ridley. What good news.

Devil's my favorite too, for uh, "political" reasons, because I've always wanted Devil World to make some sort of appearance in the States, since it was one of Miyamoto's very first games.

Other than that though, my favorites are Advance Wars, Andross, and Lakitu. These ATs are getting ridiculous. Such a better idea than Pokeballs.

I'd love to see Little Mac as a playable character, but there's not a lot of depth to him-he's a boxer, and that's it. That doesn't mean he couldn't be a playable character, but I think he'd be disappointing. As an Assist Trophy, he's a good bit of nostalgia and hopefully quite useful. So I think this is the best way they could have used him.

Seeing this nostalgic update, I think I'll go play Mike Tyson's Punch-Out for a little bit before I go to school...

I thought his shorts were blue.

They alternated white and green depending on if it was pre-fight, and who you were fighting.

And yes, I mean they alternated colors on screen.

I would also like to see a new punchout and its called Victorious boxing (or Hajime no Ippo Wii) seems like what a punchout game should be on Wii.

They must add Anonymous. :D

A Nintendog and Mario's cape would render him useless.

This game looks better and better with every news snippet- guess I'm going to be a ps-wii guy this holiday.

When I saw Little Mac on my RSS feed this morning I think my heart skipped a beat. Sadly I found out he was an Assist and not a new challenger. Still, it's great to see Mac just won't go down without a fight (pun intended), even with today's heavyweight contenders for games.

Yeah, it's such a shame they didn't use Mac as a playable character. It would've been really neat to have a boxing themed character like it seems every other fighting game has.

It's still cool to see him in 3D instead of another 8-Bit assist trophy.

THe grpahics on the wii are terrible, these screens look n64ish. Im pissed i waited in line a YEAR AGO to get a wii that i havent played in 6months. Wii FTL.

I'm wondering if all of the trophies will work as assists. If they're like Melee's trophies, you'd have 3 or so for each playable character, so those would probably each use a different special attack or something.

Man, with hundreds of trophies, that would get INSANE! I doubt that will be the case, though. :(

Little Mac just makes me yearn for a Wii Punchout. 2D of course in the same vein as it always has been. This franchise, Metroid, Castlevania, Mega-Man and Contra are some of the few that I wouldn't even care about 3D for. Sometimes old school is just better for certain games.

More characters I want to see are: Simon Belmont, Mega Man, King Hippo, Ryu from Ninja Gaiden (in original costume), Sabin from Final Fantasy 3 (6 in japan), Crono (Crono Trigger).

Was I the only one pissed at the automated message from GameStop about this game getting pushed back to Feb of next year? Or was I just the last to know....

My friend and I have been discussing this, and all paths lead to awesome. Plus Edgeworth as a slower, more powerful clone version!

Less experienced players DO wrestle with the controls, regardless of the game. And the more you play Wii Sports Boxing, the more you DO learn the ins and outs of the controls. Your problem is that you can't differentiate between learning to hit buttons to get a proper response and swinging the controller to get a proper response. They're really no different, though.

You can achieve victory in a fighter by hitting the buttons in some vague, but logical fashion.

Thats exactly right. Shagi can't see that moving your arm to get your character to do something is analgous to pushing the right button to get your character to do something.

Only difference is you have to actually be good and have control for wii.
