This holiday Target stores will stock a special edition of
Guitar Hero III for PS2 which includes two specially designed SG wired guitars for $110. Cutting to the chase, this means the extra guitar is $30, saving you $10 off the guitar's
normal $40 price. Considering co-op and competition seem to be a focus in this latest
Guitar Hero, the bundle doesn't seem like a bad deal for those who don't already have a guitar sitting around. There is no announcement about a Wii, PS3 or Xbox 360 bundle, but each of those systems should have online options to find another player -- with
varying degrees of success.
Target is also sponsoring a
Guitar Hero competition at
E for All this week. We contacted the PR reps for the event and the bundle won't be a prize at the competition.
Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock hits store shelves on Oct. 28.

Looks to me more like an excuse to get rid of old controllers. The PS2 version comes with a Gibson Kramer, not an SG. Unless I'm mistaken, that's the original Guitar Hero controller.
I'd pass on this one... the controller is supposed to be recieving a lot of improvements for this installment.

Anyone know for sure if you can use these Guitar Hero III controllers from this bundle with Guitar Hero 1 on a Playstation 2? I have the chance to buy the second guitar from this bundle from someone, but want to use it on my PS2.

This is one of the many reasons I think this will be blowing Rock Band away.
Also, TEN DAYS LEFT?!?!? Shit. I won't be finishing this semester.

I would bet the other reason your rooting for GH is that theres no Wii version of rock band...bitter much?
Santo @ Oct 19th 2007 4:18AM
Personally, I'd rather have Guitar Hero III than Rock Band (and as a Wii60 owner, I easily have the option of either).
The track list for GHIII is more appealing to me and I don't want to pony up $170 for drums and a mic that probably won't get used very much. And given the $90 price tag and the rumbling and twanging guitar, I'll be picking up the Wii version.
Although I do think the Wii version should be cheaper still, since that guitar doesn't need its own wireless or tilt detection. C'est la vie.

If only the people at Sony got Guitar Hero to work with the PS3. Until then,Guitar Hero 1 and 2 sit under my bed collecting dust. Such a disappointment.

activision said the ps2 controllers work on ps3, if you have an adaptor for the plugs. apparently EA wants people to buy new controllers for rock band though (not surprisingly)
why not the LS2LS7? @ Oct 18th 2007 6:56PM
The controllers work on PS3 in GH3. They don't work on PS3 in GH1 or GH2.
DJ Amireh @ Oct 18th 2007 6:51PM
@OTAM They just want you to buy 3 :P

Where's the non-bundle for PS3? There's no way to buy just the game and no guitars for PS2. That's what I want.
I was just about to brag that Red Octane is coming by tomorrow and I'm gonna get to play GH3! But after seeing the demo disc thing it probably only means they're coming by with the demo disc. Oh well, I'll still have some fun.

"The controllers work on PS3 in GH3. They don't work on PS3 in GH1 or GH2."
I figured that out the hard way. I never had a PS2 and figured i'd get a PS3 to play Guitar Hero on. I have Guitar Hero 1 and 2 with the controllers for each for the PS2,so they basically have sat there unused, almost $200 worth, because nobody can be bothered to put a working adapter out.
K_G @ Oct 19th 2007 1:16AM
Well, this package is a bit of downgrade since the GH3 single guitar bundle is a WIRELESS guitar and this double guitar bundle is two wired guitars. But for new users looking for co-op play, the $20 bump up in price from the solo wireless package (retail list price $89.95, a $10 bump up over the wired GH2 solo bundle) is a good deal.

i actually saw this on sale at a target here in l.a. i didn't buy it cause it's for ps2 and i needs my HD!!

still a pita to play if you're left handed. after playing off and on at a party all night, my mid forearm and butt of my left hand were sore :/

Target is advertising the 2 guitar bundle for $89.99 by me. I never had Guitar Hero before and I own a PS2. it would be cool to have the wireless, but I don't think i can pass on the 2 guitar deal.
Ken Seang @ Oct 28th 2007 2:51PM
Same here thats why I went and got it anyways. Plus you dont have to worry about batteries at least...

Just bought the bundle at Target for $89 bucks, on sale. I'm a 50 yr old "want-a-be" rocker with a PS2 system.....my hand-eye coordination is a bit rusty but even us old folks can enjoy some couch excercise....love the old 80's songs too.....well worth the money even if the quitars are wired.....arent real ones hooked to amps??? buy it, you won't regret it....
