Everything after "Nov. 2" is ridiculous. It's a game system, not a matter of life or death.

It's a valid point, though. If consumers buy up stuff because they're afraid of features being taken away, then companies will start taking stuff away to encourage that behavior (read: purchasing). We, as consumers, do not want that.

Screw it!!!! I just bought a 60GB... I was hoping they would adjust that price, but it didn't happen.

Circuit City did knock $20 off the price to reflect their "free" Gamer's Club deal. So I guess $479 I can deal with :P

Happy gaming!

When i looked at circuit city's web page yesterday, they were including a free sixaxis with the purchase of a 60gig ps3... thats equivalent of a $49 price drop... Made me waiver...

I will be buying a 40gig for warhawk. thanks!

I got a 60 gig back when they dropped that in July. traded in my ps2 for it (since back then, PS3s had that sweet sweet emotion). $420 bucks later I was playing in HD.

Also, it's nice that Warhawk is getting props. It's the only game I've played consistently for the ps3. Utterly chaotic and very fun, despite some communication and stat "issues".

If you're lucky, you might be able to get one before Christmas.

I mean, the price has dropped what, 3 times this year? Once more would make a price drop every 3 months.

Screw that...pick up a 20GB with full BC on the cheap...I'm sure you can get one on Ebay for around $350. Then slap a ginormous drive for it...160GB or 250GB.

So does that mean that the 60GB and the 80GB are now the same price? If any store have 60s doesn't seem like they will sell if there is a 80GB next to it.

That was a great article. Truthful and completely free of bs.

Kudos to Justin!

Now about this 80G thing...its still too expensive. Thats just my opinion though. They're are no games worthy of buying a system thats $500.00

Same sentiments here. Feels less like a blog post and more like a consumer commentary on how to get the most bang for your buck if you're on the fence about purchasing a PS3. Some may not agree, but I think it's a well thought out approach. Here's hoping to no more bully tactics from Sony - I'll hold onto my $500 until the incentives fit my preferences.

Thanks, Justin.

I still think the I like the better deal of a PS3 at $500 than the Xbox360 Elite at $449.

So I'm not sure why everyone complains the PS3 is "too expensive" when there's a similarly priced 360 in the next case.

The games are there for both systems. So when people claim "no games," is it just because of exclusive titles? I think there's plenty of stuff available for the PS3 considering 360 has a year plus on it.

people yell "no games on teh PS3!" because apparently multiplatform games don't count toward a systems library... unless it's a really fun game but then it's obviously considered to be better on anything but the PS3.

Because you're comparing the cheapest PS3 with the most expensive 360. This is especially dumb because the 20gb HD on the premium is more than enough space for what you need it to do.

Name a game for the PS3 that is a hit something that no one can go without playing? A fully unique experience that can not be played in any other form. Everything out right now is done else where, not to mention the few games that are unique are so horribly built or slapped together it isn't worth it..

Name a 360 game that's like that.

Gears, Kill.switch.
Halo, any fps at all.

Bioshock and Lost Planet are on PC with Lost Planet coming to PS3 with all the content of the 360 and PC versions, GRAW2 is on PS3 and PC, R6V is on PS3.

What other hit games are there? That no one can go without playing? None of the games I just mentioned are that.

Heavenly Sword, Lair I've played on my friends because there are no games at the present moment that make me want to buy the system. I'm a gamer not a fanboy. But Sony needs to release something to get me to commit. 360 has my FPS fix, my adventure game fix, I don't demand a lot of RPGs so it takes care of that too. And my PC takes care of my RTS needs. I've played through Resistance completely and it wasn't horrible but I'll take Bioshock Halo Rainbow Six Gears Ghost Recon with Xbox Live over that without a second thought.

I have at my place and in storage. PSX PSone PS2 X 2 NES SNES 64 X 2 Cube Wii Xbox Xbox 360 even an atari laying around somewhere. I've always owned every system that I can convince myself will get me my gaming fixes. Sony just doesn't have that right now. And every time I hear about a great game that makes me want to go out and buy one... a few weeks later I find out it isn't exclusive which means I don't need to buy the system to experience the game, so it does come to exclusives... Convince me I need to spend another 300 let alone 500 dollars on a system and I'll do it... But if I can play it without paying the extra 300-500 then I won't...

I don't really agree that a game being on PC somehow negates that fact it's exclusive to one console. Many gamers, including me, have given up on the video card upgrade grind (for me, primarily because I would rather have a very nice laptop than a gaming desktop and a baseline laptop). Yes, Bioshock is on PC... but it's still content that console gamers can only get on the 360.

What I read from that story is that someone at Joystiq fears that Sony may REMOVE the backwards compatibility from the PS3 at some point in the future, negating the need to rush into anything at this point.

Also, @robert, I *think* that the Wu-Tang game had trouble on the PS2 as well, which is one reason it won't work on the PS3.

Go to Sonystyle, get a Sony Card. Order the 80 gb system. You get 12 months no interest and a $100 credit to your card, and 5 free blue ray movies and Motorstorm for $399. Pretty damn good deal. That's what I just did.

First, I am not a Sony Fanboy. I do own a PS3, out of fear. The 60GB that I upped to a 250GB (so easy to do btw). I've enjoyed the BluRay feature (though, you have to buy a remote: the controller is too awkward), the PSN and games (few and far between...but give it time...).
Now my brother wants to get the 40GB but hear about "It's not backward compat with PS2...whaaa". Come on. This is my first Sony PS ever! We never had a Sony. Coleco, yes. Atari, yes. Sega, yes. GC, yes. Xbox and 360, yes. Wii (he's got it, I'm bigger).
So I say, do you have $400 to spend? Then do it. Otherwise, move along. Nothing to see...

I might buy the system for Heavenly Sword, but seeing as how the game is seemingly so short, I dunno. I'm still not sold on this system. Sony hasn't inspired me with all their flip flopping back and forth on what to do. They're business model for the PS-line kinda sucks now.

but being an ex-Sears Associate I know they take weeks to update their prices....(took nearly a month to update the $50 drop on the Zune)

so what I did was Go to Sears and Pricematch the 80GB meaning I got it for $500 PLUS an additional 10% of the difference.........sure thats only $10......but it was cheaper than anywhere else...........lol

Is anybody else sick of these multiple SKU's? So far I've counted:
PS3 20gb
PS3 60GB w/integrated EE
PS3 60gb w/o EE using software emu
PS3 80gb
PS3 40gb w/o bw compat.

Christ. Way to confuse the average consumer Sony. I'm also looking at you MS, you're no better:
360 core
360 premium
360 elite
360 arcade w/HDMI
360 premium w/HDMI

I liked it when there was ONE console, and it stayed that way the WHOLE generation.

Those don't count as separate. They're the same thing, just with hardware tweaks. You did forget the 360 Halo Edition, though.

No, I'm still not sick of multiple SKUs.

What do I care? I bought one PS3, not 5. I bought one 360, not 5.

My PS3 plays all the games I want except for Guitar Hero. And my 360 plays, well, it only plays 3 of the Xbox games I have. It still doesn't play Rallisport Challenge 2 and it never will, because despite what MS still says in their FAQ, 100% BC is not actually their goal anymore, if it ever was.

I'm happy with both consoles. Yeah, I'd like PS3 to have more games. Yeah, I'd like 360 not to sound like a jet taking off (especially my latest one, my 3rd one as the other two broke).

So I just don't see why I should be angry about multiple SKUs as long as my console can play all the games I want. If I were a developer, things would be a little different, as 360 presents multiple hardware configs to the developer. The Core has no HDD for the developer to use, while on the rest of the 360s and all PS3s, they have an HDD to use and are restricted (by Sony/MS) on how much of the HDD they can use, so the size isn't really material.

But I'm not a developer, so for me I'm happy. I have two games I've bought but still have to play on 360, and two I've bought but still to play on PS3 right now. I've got a lot of fun ahead of me, and the games are still rolling in for the holidays. And on top of that, I've got the Orange Box for PC to play!

Life is good.

If consumers should wait to buy a PS3 because of the money, should we wait to buy a 360? Will Microsoft ever decide what they will include in their systems? Will Microsoft every create games on HD-DVD discs? Will Microsoft ever include Wi-Fi? Will Microsoft ever create a system without the redring of death? Maybe we should all just wait?

To both Sony and Microsoft: Stop creating so many SKU's!!! This generation of video games is getting way out of hand and expensive!!
