Hear GH3's fiddle-free version of 'The Devil Went Down to Georgia'

Though we already knew "The Devil Went Down to Georgia" was going to be in Guitar Hero 3 we didn't realize it was going to be the final track (the end boss, if you will). A helpful press release just informed us of the distinction while pointing us to this MP3 file of the now fiddle-free version. Gone is the violin and in its stead is, of course, a guitar – a fast guitar – played by one Mr. Steve Ouimette who, when asked for comment said, "I told you once, you son of a bitch, I'm the best that's ever been."

make sure you completely understand something before you decide to refute it.

the fiddle version is much better. the gh3 rock version is a BUTCHERED version of the original. they shouldn't have tried to use a song that was meant to be played with a fiddle and sounds perfect played with a fiddle. next they'll try to use twangy country music as hard rock too, which implies quite obviously that it wouldn't work and would sound like shit too. i'm not saying they should have used the original, i'm saying they shouldn't have tried to use it at all. but nice job buddy.

That was one of the last songs I would've picked to be the end boss.

Then again, the one I would pick would have me lynched as nobody would be able to beat the game (hi2u Dragonforce).

This definitely sounds like it'd be tougher than the Dragonforce song. It's a pretty good cover, all told, but man nothing can compare with the original... this coming from a death/speed/power/heavy metal freak.

It doesn't sound faster than Though the Fire and the Flames, though it is quick.

Not to mention Through the Fire and Flames is like a 10 minute song.

Oh, it's definitely tougher, because anyone cool would hold the guitar like a really big fiddle while playing this.

The problem with that is now they can't make a decent Fiddle Hero because they used this song already.

SRV's version of Little Wing... that might kill some folks...

Stfu. I hate people who heard Jordan in GHII and think that Buckethead is the greatest thing to happen to music ever.

So it's quickly played guitar? That's Buckethead? Anyone can play guitar fast. Buckethead doesn't play like that at all he uses wah-wah and distortion pedals coupled with a wammy bar and differently tuned guitar to play his music.

yeah... what I meant was, the tone and note choices are similar to Buckethead's style. I'm a big buckethead fan. have been since i saw him with Primus WAAAAAYYYYY back. He's not the end-all of rock guitarists, sure. but fuck, let's not get worked up because I point out some similarities, champ. I wasn't insulting the song, the guitar player, you or your mother.

Everyone knows the devil actually should have won in the original version. And since there was nobody to "judge" the competition in the original why did the devel admit he had lost? He's the devil why would he be honest about it. Just tell that little redneck he lost and rob him of his soul, you are the devil after all. Maybe I'm taking it to seriously?

Half the devil's solo WASN'T FIDDLING. He didn't even play for the good part of it - it was just bass. He played about 10 seconds of garbage - if you heard the fiddle part by itself, you'd agree.
On a related note, this cover sucks, I'm sorry. It's nothing like the original, and isn't even remotely related to Bluegrass.

It'd be nice if this were noted as a spoiler. I know it's not a conventional story spoiler, but they made it the last song for a reason.

I wish every iota of upcoming games weren't splayed out in the headlines (ie, Mass Effect and Assassin's Creed twist), so as to leave a little bit of discovery in games.

So, who else is excited that Cherub Rock is on there?

That was absolute crap. I'm pretty sure that's the worst song ever produced. "As made famous by" my ass. "As butchered by a mediocre piece of garbage pseudo-metal band" is a bit more accurate. If there weren't so many other really good "master tracks" in this game I wouldn't touch it just because of that swill.

GH3 just sh*t the bed!

Rock Band has some gems, but I'd say this overall track list beats the hell out of that one. Now if only they were all Master Tracks...

Bah, doesn't sound climatic AT ALL.

I have heard way better metal versions of that song, too many effects, too many gay guitar parts in this version.

I just tried out the demo of GH III today, I was totally unprepared for The Metal on expert and failed it, the triple chord section caught me off guard, on a related note I think this sounds alright.

Raining Blood! The end of that track is utterly insane! There was a backwards message on reign in blood. That kept repeating JOIN US JOIN US JOIN US hehe creepy.

Jeez... this kid bastardized this awesome song. It should've been Charlie Daniels singing it.

Sounds cool.

I'm eager to play this track. Not just because I like the song, but because I know how they'll set it up. They've been talking about duels as their big feature for GHIII. And they've also got to top Stonehenge for the final venue.

Playing this song against the Devil in hell would be a bit of one-upsmanship.
