I doubt "rush". They are here still, so a leisurely pace should do, since that's all that's been taken so far, appearently.

The 60 Gigs better, IMHO. More backwards compatibility, plus those extras. You can always swap out the drive in any PS3 for one that really gives you more space- 100's of gigs more, to be precise.

Hmm...looks like I have to go out and get my PS3 pretty soon. I would really hate to have limited BC, and the 60 GB sounds worth it...and extra control, a remote, AND a game? Most bundles don't come anywhere NEAR that level of value.

I guess it might be a GOOD thing that Sony is struggling (somewhat), since it keeps bringing the price lower and lower.

Anybody with $$$ to burn will buy the 60GB - it's got all the features of the 80GB, plus true hardware PS2 support. Remember that the 80GB has software PS2 emulation. Otherwise, the hardware is the same except for the hard drive space. So, key differences:
60GB: Hardware PS2 emulation
80GB: Software PS2 emulation

If you are wondering what Software versus Hardware means in terms of compatibilty, go to the Sony Playstation site, and go to the PS3's PS2 game compatibility list. First, chose the 60GB console, and then search for "Star Wars". See the list of all the star wars games. Then do the same for the 80GB. You will see that the backwards compatibility of the Software emulation in the 80GB is not nearly as good as the Hardware in the 60GB.

To those with more limited budgets, you will be deciding between the 20GB and the 40GB. The differences are:
20GB: Hardware PS2 emulation, NO wireless, NO memory card slots, 4 USB ports, black faceplate
40GB: NO PS2 emulation, HAS Wireless, NO memory card slots, 2 USB ports, chrome faceplate

So, in terms of the 20GB versus 40GB, you are basically trading off the Hardware PS2 emulation for Wireless support. Those are the major choices you have to make.

Keep in mind that, yes, the 20GB has BETTER PS2 emulation than the 80GB! This is because the 20GB has the same hardware PS2 emulation as the 60GB unit.

I got two of the 20GB PS3's during the launch weekend from the Playstation store in SF last year. I sold them both (not at a profit, mind you) and got myself a 60GB later when I could find one. But, I have to say that I do like the black faceplate of the 20GB better. And it's the ONLY PS3 to date to actually have black instead of the chrome.

Keep in mind that hard drive upgrades on the PS3 are so easy that they are a joke. I upgraded my 60GB PS3 to a 250GB hard drive a few weeks ago. Simple, and there is even a backup utility built into the PS3 that backs EVERYTHING up to an external USB hard drive. Makes the upgrade really easy to do.

So, really, you can get whatever console that has the price and hardware that you need, and you have to option to upgrade the hard drive now or later.

For those wondering about how much hard drive space is enough, note that I bought my 60GB in January, and from that time I literally downloaded EVERYTHING that showed up on PSN every week. Game demos, videos, everything. My 60GB drive didn't fill up until September this year. Of course, there is a lot more stuff coming out every week these days, but this should give you a feel for how much the 60GB drive can hold.

Don't know if anyone cares but I work at Meijer (Midwest megastore thing) and right now we have a deal going on where, if you pick up the 60GB PS3 they'll throw in a copy of Lair. I doubt that'll lure you away from the 80GB but it's something to think about.

I don't know if it is different in-store vs. online, but I just checked the Best Buy website, and they are offering the 60 Gig with the choice of either a game or the extra controller. Here is the link:

I just picked up an 80GB PS3 from NewEgg for 499.99.

Best 221.01 ever spent! (Cause I had 291.00 from Paypal in my account from a couple of recent ebay sells!)
