Mass Effect is done and you still can't play it

Do you have a sense of rightness, of glee seeping into your nervous system? It's not your imagination. That's the sixth gamer sense letting you know that somewhere in the world BioWare's next RPG Mass Effect is complete. ... Or you're a crystal meth fiend. It's tough to say. But since you're reading Joystiq and not CheapDiscreetPseudoephedrine.com, we're going to assume it's the first one.

But you're probably also discovering that you're feeling a little empty inside. That's because you know that, despite its incontrovertible done-ness, you still can't play Mass Effect until its release a month from now. ... That, or your having a post-meth-high crash. It's one of the two.

It's pretty common for a game to be done around a month before release, no? Gotta have time for manufacturing and shipping!

yup, typical games have about a 2-3 week manufacturing process once it goes gold.
Games that are supposed to be big like H3, Gears, any mario game, etc... have extra lead time and usually clock in at about a month.

How long for the PC version? Its not like there arent a bajillion other games coming out in the next 2 months, but I am intereested in anything that Bioware does. Hopefully its not the godawful 2 years it takes Halo versions to come out on the PC.

Well now that EA owns Bioware, I would guess maybe less than a year or maybe a year. You will see mass effect on every playable platform. Its EA, they fuck up everything.

if you buy it now and it goes to another platform later the quality of the game you already bought isn't going to change in any way.

Exactly. It's good for both players and developers if the game came on multiple platforms(more people will get to play this game and Bioware gets more money). There's nothing wrong with that. Seriously, I'm getting tired of the retarded EA hate here. While I agree that they did a lot of stupid shit in the past, they have improved somewhat and there are some games coming from them that are interesting. EA is currently suffering from the Ben Affleck affect where people hate on EA simply because everyone is doing it.

Instant buy for me too. Good thing. My coffin just arrived and Im hoping that it returns faster than their stated 3-4 weeks. Anyone knows how long? So excited. Played KotOR 1 and 2 and if it even remotely feels the same it will satisfy me completely.

i've read the stories, i've seen some screens and videos, but nothings really impressed me yet.
it kinda comes off as a DMC, but futuristic, and more RPG and less action game.

we really need an option to delete our own posts, cause the reply system never seems to work correctly for me.

supposed to be like an old school lucasarts game kinda thing (but much more intricate) where you have to watch what you say and treat ppl properly...hopefully it actually works out like that

I couldn't play it anyways, my 360 is RRoD for now. This time though, I got to the highest level of customer service. They have promised to "take care of me", whatever that means.....

Oh well, I'll have the UK version of The Witcher to play through.

Witcher= RPG of the year. And it will pwn Mass Effect, though Mass Effect will still be good and will pwn Drake's Fortune on the same day.
