Ok, I can't resist this poke at the PS3...

Since PS3 titles keep getting delayed, doesn't the 360 have 'timed-exclusives' already? ;)

The problem with buying exclusives is that you eventually have to make that money back through console sales.

So a $50 million check for GTA4 episodic has to return the equivalent of 1 million consoles sold (if they make $50 per console)... not really a big deal, except the huge attach rate and sluggish sales (outside of Halo Month) means that new people arent buying 360s consoles. Its the existing install base that are. This also means that those exclusives they bought for Japan are worthless.

Why can't you make it back in software profits as well? If the game sells like Halo 3 (not saying it would, but in theory) wouldn't that also make up for it?

You forgot the add-on's they that make a heavy profit off of. I'd assume they could split that 1 million console (at 50 profit) to 500k-600k just from accessories alone.

I think they need to re-state what user base versus installed base means. So many 360 owners have more than 1 unit so 11 million is not their user base, more like 7-8 million. Since they reached the 10 million mark last xmas only selling 1.5 million this year is pathetic. Sony has already moved to 65nm for both CPU & GPU (read 40gb PS3 specs) So why does MS wait until next year to do the same? MS can buy out whole countries if they choose and deflate the industry as they do it to secure a couple of exclusives. In the end though the 360 is a mid-gen product that MS panic'd over and rushed to market. Their FUD patrol does the rest.

The 360 is definitely outperforming the PS3, which was probably their primary goal.

It's easy to argue that the 360 is more next gen than the Wii. Some can even argue that it's doing better due to the stellar software sales / attach rates.

The numbers are probably inflated since many had to purchase multiple consoles (a la PS2), but it doesn't really change the fact that they're pretty much owning Sony and are doing as well if not better in some categories over Nintendo.

Most articles covering the 360 new SKU always include the fact that current users are expected to upgrade, like taking a page form Nintendo's book or something. So first buyers had the core and the premium. Then the elite came out and many wrote the would be upgrading. Next the Halo edition arrived and guess what? MS puts 65nm CPU 90nm GPU with HDMI 1.2 (Sony HDMI is 1.3, 40gb is 60nm CPU & GPU) expecting people to upgrade. So there is were my math comes from. Obviously the Arcade SKU is a joke so I won't even discuus it.

Lol thats just more sony garbage for you...

Their execs will claim that they're not competing with the Wii.

Their fanboys claim that MOST if not all people own multiple 360's...

Serious case of denial here folks...

You think they care about what 'user base versus installed base means'? It's all about the numbers. 11 million consoles sold is 11 million consoles sold...Developers and publishers look at it as 11 million potential buyers for the games being developed and that’s also how MS will market it.

"Since they reached the 10 million mark last xmas only selling 1.5 million this year is pathetic."

If you find that pathetic, what are your thoughts on the sales of the PS3?

"In the end though the 360 is a mid-gen product that MS panic'd over and rushed to market. Their FUD patrol does the rest."

Yes because MS spreads 'Fear, Uncertainty, Doubt' to sell consoles.

@oldest gamer

The 10m figure you quote that X360 "sold" by xmas was actually shipped to retailers. The actual numbers were around 8 million units sold by the end of the year. Good job comparing that inflated number to the actual sold units up until today. If you go back and actually calculate how many systems were sold since the beginning of the year you'll see the figures look like this

X360: 3.9 million
PS3: 3.7 million

These are estimates but much different then the 1.5 million units you "claim" were sold by Microsoft. Speaking of FUD....

@oldest gamer again

You logic on "upgrading" is ridiculous. Anybody that has went out and spent an additional 350-450 each time a new revision has came out is either stupid or made of money. But I'm sure if people had that money to blow they would have just bought a PS3 at the beginning since it's such a good deal and so much more next gen then anything else out there....

According to your logic though I'm sure everybody owns 12 PS2's since the hardware was revised that many times. Other than the HDMI every version of the Xbox is identical other than accessories or add-on's you could purchase separately. The average console buyer knows nothing about 65nm vs 90nm, CPU or GPU.

So you clicked on this article, just to troll about the Xbox 360 in a way that has nothing to do with the article. Way to go, ace. Why is it always xbox vs ps3, anyways? You know you're allowed to own both, right? There's no brand loyalty commitment, so just stop. Hardware means nothing to me, I go where the games are. If I end up having to buy each system, so be it.

Like all the analysts pretty much suggested, I don't think we're going to see a change on our end.

You seem to have struck a nerve there OldestGamer.

But I have to agree with everyone else, your debate is laughable. Despite what you think, the 360 is doing extremely well for itself, and that is something all of the developer's are noticing. Why else do you think top-notch games like Assassin's Creed, Grand Theft Auto (not a personal fav), Devil May Cry and more are all coming to the Xbox.

That's right, the developer's like that there are a lot of them in people's homes. They like that the games they spend millions on will actually have an install base large enough to pay for the development costs, and of course so they can make a little more.

But also what Brello said, why does there have to be such a strong brand loyalty, Sony effed up this generation. It's alright to admit it. I don't own a PS3, but when games start coming out, that require it's purchase I will be picking one up. Until then though, my 360 is working out just fine.

Games are games and that is all we should care about right? Then if I make a simple math mistake in this forum posters cry about it. Microsoft employs engineers to build the 360 as quick as possible to get out in front of Sony. They build it so quick that is has a resulting 30% failure rate, scratches disks, and over heats. This is the state of the industry and the state of society, too scared to take on the real culprit and instead get the little guy. Thanks for the feedback guys but yeah we're way off topic now. Ethics 101 is finished.

It is possible to foresee a slight slowdown in the 360 over the next year, but not due to the loss of these companies

Bungie isn't technically a loss at all, they'll replace Bizarre (although not easily) and i thought they didn't own BioWare anyway, this'll just mean they'll have to fight for Mass Effect 2 exclusivity

Waa the consoles RROD!!! Waaa the 360 scratched my disk!!! Waaa how come you guys arent hard on Sony!?

The 360 is a super model you have sex with nightly, you know she cheats on you all the time, she calls you bad names, and treats you like dirt but in the end she brings the goods to you in the sack night in and night out. That is the 360. I've had two die but I don't care, because I have fun every night playing that thing, I am also gauranteed a nice variety of foreplay with the 360 ie games!

RROD is no longer an excuse. Ever since the slut has committed three years to your life.

Who is this fucking genius? GTA didn't even appear on any console until Vice City and that was onthe PC also. So no, it hasn't always been a PS2 exclusive. Christ, San Andreas gets six month exclusivity 3 years ago and it's a PS game?

oldest gamer,
How do you know that the 360's problem are related to a "rushed release"? Their are many products that get recalled due to defects that the manufacturer didn't see when producing the unit. The auto industry has recalls and failure rates that are much hight than the 360's. Does this mean that gm or toyota rushed their cars off the line to make a sale? Of course not, it means that there was a flaw in the design. What do you you have to say about computers that crash? My friends hard drive went to hell on him last week, so I guess his computer was hurried out of the factory.

I'm going to ignore you people because reading your arguments is like listening to analysts, pointless all around.

1) Analyst (Huh I said anal huh huh) only tell the obvious, hell I could be analyst I'm perfect at pointing at the obvious.

2) Tobias Boon

With that said, Yeah MS sort of lost Bungie but they still hold the rights for Halo also that if Halo somehow goes multiplatform (I’m not telling is going to) it would suffer the same fate of MGS2:S Great game but only in 1 platform, I don’t see PS3 fanboys most of them Euro and Japanese playing Halo 4 over FFXIII or MGS:4.

Next, the guy that said MS only supports game like Halo and Gears needs to be shoot in the nads for great justice, So tell me did I imagine those Forza 2 TV ads?, Perhaps the whole Viva piñata cartoon was just a delusion caused by playing Halo 2 because seriously who has ever heard of that.. A$$ hat.

Fact Microsoft has the lead and taking the word of the developers is easier to develop games in it instead of spending a crapton in a PS3 game.

Not a real fact but

A)Ps3 is too expensive for the regular Joe, IMO is way too elitist for it’s own good seriously Consoles are stuff that should cost no more than 300$-350$ and some how we forgive MS but Sony is being ridiculous, yes the PS3 is the latest hardware all around but man no one gives a crap about Blu-Ray.

B) The cake is delicious and moist

C) St this point is going to be hard to get XB gamers buy a PS3 unless Sony gets some kickass exclusives, like rite now.

D) Point B is a lie
