Zero Punctuation irons out Super Paper Mario
This week the British-born Yahtzee, who harnesses his rage on the outskirts of Brisbane, Australia, takes on Super Paper Mario. Yes, he knows it's old, but apparently the Australians just got it. So, for many, this will be like a review down memory lane -- as others relive their own issues with the title.
Does Yahtzee like the "new" Paper Mario? You can find out for yourself after the break, but we'll tell you he liked the old ones better. Considering the Wii is fully backwards compatible with the Gamecube, it's worth reminding newcomers to the series of the excellent Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door. It's not much of a step backwards in graphics and the gameplay is as good as ever.

BTW are you going to post AVGN videos anytime soon? or Kotaku has control over those?
mr nimblewick (SegaDF - Jogurt Ring) @ Oct 24th 2007 5:07PM
You hear that Joystiq, he EXPECTED IT EARLIER.
Get on that next time.
Word of the street(IDF-Digital Ruler). @ Oct 24th 2007 5:30PM

Really you start to piss me off.
T3H WICKERMAN (FDF) @ Oct 24th 2007 5:43PM

Lulz. You got burned.

"btw rotflmao...btw"
I saw it too. I think he went pretty damn easy on the game though. I'm a big Nintendo fan, but the 1,000 year door was not the 'diamond' he claims it to be and super paper mario was worthless after one level.

Ok sorry for that but mr nimblewick is still jerk.
Word of the street(IDF-Digital Ruler). @ Oct 24th 2007 6:29PM

NEWSFLASH: Joystiq readers now known colloquially as "legion of bitches."
Which goes to prove anything with the word "legion" in it becomes incredibly badass.

Exactly glad you get it boy but I was talking about mr nimblewick not Joystiq,Joystiq is still cool.
I didn't know he was so popular but seriouly he annoys me I can't make a comment without that guy replying some crap.
So no one even bother on watching the video.
Shmil @ Oct 24th 2007 8:26PM
its not the fact that we all love mr. nimblewick, though he is quite sexy, its the fact that you're complaining that joystiq didn't post this when you told them to
HEY JOYSTIQ! PENNY-ARCADE POSTED A COMIC TODAY! GET ON THAT!
thats like complaining that nintendowiifanboy doesn't post a blog the instant that smashbros.com updates
Word of the street(IDF-Digital Ruler). @ Oct 24th 2007 10:50PM
Oh,I said I expected this earlier not like Jonah Jameson screaming at peter parker I said more like huh I expected this later like when the Bus is 2 minutes late but you make a big deal about it.
Still I don't like that guy.
Ok sorry for that.
Internet serious buisness.
Rubang B (NDF - Heart) @ Oct 25th 2007 2:36AM
Oooh ooh I want to be one of the chunks of black test in thsi sea of white-out too!
mr nimblewick (SegaDF - Jogurt Ring) @ Oct 24th 2007 5:06PM
How do people not realize that you don't have to make all your money in that level by running on the hamster wheel? Do they really think ANY game designer would make that mandatory?
Zantac @ Oct 24th 2007 5:10PM
They do, but you still have to run for about 15 minutes to get enough rubees to buy the code for the vault.
Anticrawl @ Oct 24th 2007 5:32PM
Fuck that, I just got the code online. I'm not about to run in a hamster wheel.
Tim @ Oct 24th 2007 5:08PM
He Is so intelligent that he didnt notice you dont have to run in a hamster wheel you can just go upstairs and get some rupee's.
Zantac @ Oct 24th 2007 5:14PM
Don't forget that the original Paper Mario is also available on the Wii's Virtual Console.
Sean @ Oct 24th 2007 5:21PM
Another hilarious review. I like how he brought back his love for Portal in this one. And "Super Huge Tits."
Sidepocket @ Oct 24th 2007 5:22PM
I love Super Paper Mario and that was accurate and funny as hell. I love all the countries, I had no idea that Australia is full of sheep. And woot for living in the the "bigger asshole territory!" and New Jersey Turnpike! "Play with me daddy!" XD
Seriously I have no idea why people have flack with this guy. The only reason I think you could flip your lid over the Halo 3 or this Review is if you are a total retarded fanboy...in a 9 Nine Inch Nail T-Shirt. :D
Psaakyrn @ Oct 24th 2007 8:21PM
Yeah, it isn't. New Zealand's the land of sheep. Australia's the land of deadly animals.
steve @ Oct 25th 2007 12:05PM
^erm... like the platypus?
Blazur @ Oct 24th 2007 5:24PM
Oh god I love this guys reviews.
"Don't get me wrong. I recommend SPM...if only to get some farking use of your Wii".
Me, I wouldn't recommend this game to anyone except children aged 10 or less. The game was so painfully boring and childish.
Hashbrown_Hunter @ Oct 24th 2007 6:46PM
yeah i seriously love zero punctuation. smartest game critic out there, in my opinion.
Zsavior @ Oct 24th 2007 5:25PM
Gamers where have you gone, I love this guys reviews because they are funny and not really views but rants on what he hates in gaming. But Damnit man, gamefaqs look around the map why would anybody do a quest that monotonous, and not think there was a way around it. The whole point to mario is finding warps and hidden crap everywhere, use his bloody freaking powers and look around. If you are to dense to look around for a way out you deserve to do the stupid boring minigame.
bm @ Oct 24th 2007 5:52PM
Haha, well said. It's especially funny when they are so god damn confident of themselves.
Disclaimer: yeah I like this guy's reviews, otherwise.
Long Bow @ Oct 24th 2007 5:31PM
I love this guys reviews. By far some of the funniest stuff I've seen on the net lately. Some of you webcomic "artists" should take notice.
ronald.raygun @ Oct 24th 2007 5:32PM
hilarious review, almost as good as orange box's review
AmishPhysicist @ Oct 24th 2007 5:35PM
Hated this game. The fact that they took the actual turn-based fight system made me sad. It was all so repetitive and dull. hate hate hate
themikey @ Oct 24th 2007 6:07PM
Was that sarcasm?
They took *out* JRPG turn based combat and thus made it more repetitive?
Hashbrown_Hunter @ Oct 24th 2007 6:48PM
you'd think otherwise wouldn't you themikey?
Geist @ Oct 24th 2007 11:11PM
I agree, actually. I really liked the turn-based stuff, reminded me of Super Mario RPG. And that game was bloody fantastic.
why not the LS2/LS7? @ Oct 24th 2007 5:49PM
I know you have to do several things to make the hamster wheel time shoter, but how do you avoid it completely other than looking up the code on the net?.
Sadly, Yahtzee didn't go at this game enough. It's crap next to the other two games mentioned. I do not recommend it at all, not even to get use from your Wii.
Vegeta (aka Ska Oreo) @ Oct 24th 2007 11:13PM
What did we talk about opinions?
They differ from person to person.
See how simple that was?
Mike-453 @ Oct 24th 2007 5:53PM
I live in prick land. :D
I am glad for Yahtzees hate of JRPGs, though I do like a few.
Dopple Boppler @ Oct 24th 2007 5:55PM
I never realized there was so much Super Paper Mario hate. Then again these are the Joystiq comments, and going in here expecting anything but bashing is optimistic to the point of being foolish, but still. It's probably my least favorite of the Paper Mario games, but still, calling the game crap, childish and boring? Really? Oh well, to each his own I suppose~
bm @ Oct 24th 2007 6:24PM
No, it's true what he said in the review, the nerd chapter probably DID hit a bit too close to home for many of the fat disgusting geeks in here. ;) So they all come to cry their lungs out here where they might feel kind of accepted.
Geist @ Oct 24th 2007 11:14PM
HIGH TECHNICAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAL!
Marasai @ Oct 24th 2007 6:00PM
I really don't find this guy funny anymore. He's like the AVGN but without the ironic charm.
Word of the street(IDF-Digital Ruler). @ Oct 24th 2007 6:26PM
Actually I believe he is the new AVGN,AVGN isn't as funny as he used to be that or "Diarrhea coming out of my d*ck" isn't funny anymore.
But it seems AVGN new videos have more budget.
WiNG @ Oct 24th 2007 5:57PM
I loved this game when I first got it, but everything after the Nerdy Lizard level was dumb. There were still good jokes but the game is too damn easy. I still cannot beat Super Mario Bros 1 (fact) but I can easily beat SPM barely using any items, just cheesing all the stages with Peach or Anyone+Barry.
Marasai @ Oct 24th 2007 6:02PM
I just don't like this guy anymore.
adium @ Oct 24th 2007 6:12PM
prickland :-D so true
scotland got off, wonder where hes from in britain
BananaBoat @ Oct 24th 2007 6:12PM
There is little that I hate as much as turn based combat, whether the game comes from the US or Japan, so I'm with him there. I'm also with him that I haven't picked up my wii in ages.
Not with him about not playing brightly colored things though. I'm confident enough in my manhood to know that I'm not going to catch "The Gay" from playing games like Katamari and Okami. About the only way I'd catch the gay, is if Yahtzee strapped me down and forced the gay on me, which wouldn't be very pleasant.
Geist @ Oct 24th 2007 11:18PM
For either of you, I imagine.
Arno @ Oct 24th 2007 6:27PM
Funny. :)
Blast Processing Megadrive @ Oct 24th 2007 6:29PM
Hey, I know the artist of that picture of Peach, but she isn't actually nude in it.
I mean... what?
rTwelve @ Oct 24th 2007 6:45PM
Sigurd? Why is it that he must be obligated to comment ever single Peach work on dA EVAR? At least that's what it seems as I continue to search dA for Peach pictures... I mean....
Blast Processing Megadrive @ Oct 25th 2007 12:20AM
He must be a really, REALLY huge fan of Peach.
Not that I know anything about him or his work.
