IGN's Casamassina says new Medal of Honor 'beats the pants off Metroid Prime 3' controls
With equal parts vindication and deep personal loss in his life, IGN's resident Nintendo fanboy Matt Casamassina seized the moment and spent a little time blogging. The big revelation is that he believes the upcoming Medal of Honor Heroes 2 is a new benchmark in Wii FPS controls. He says there is a video coming in the near future, but for now says, "[MoHH2] officially beats the pants off Metroid Prime 3 in the the FPS control department." Casamassina also says while speaking with Shingo Mukaitoge (Elebits, Dewy's Adventure) that the game producer "paused for a moment, smiled, and would only say, 'That's a secret.'" in regards to an Elebits sequel. Mukaitoge says his team is already working on a new Wii project and will announce it soon. We're kinda looking forward to another Elebits. It's no secret that the game was a rush job for the Wii release, but it'd be interesting to see what the team could do with a little more time.

good to know a fanboy agrees with what the devs said a couple weeks ago
vidGuy @ Oct 25th 2007 1:10AM
Last I knew this game allows you to create your own bounding box, adjusting the size to as small or as large as you want, or get rid of it completely like the Expert control mode on MP3:C.
Plus, 32 player online with no friend codes!
LAZoftheTamarinds @ Oct 25th 2007 1:14AM
Interesting. But will MOH have better replay value, storyline etc. than MP 3. That's the real question. Anyways glad that wii FPS are getting better controls.
Ihar `Philips` Filipau @ Oct 25th 2007 9:16AM
I hate shooters with story. Because story is what damages replay value.
I liked in that aspect Doom3: there is a story. But you can skip it all by simply hitting [Esc]. That way shooter remain shooter: run and shoot all what moves.
It's embarrassing, but I still play Doom3 on my PC for 15-30 minutes a day. Nothing else helps that well to shake of daily routine. But I guess console games just do not support such play by having no save/load functionality. If distance between save points is longer than 30 minutes (and some game insists on several hours between save points) the game becomes unattractive because swallowing it during replay again such large portions is just stupid: you have seen it once, but still game will not allow you to skip all the "beauty" crap devels/artists have put into the game. Nor will it allow you to save often when you finished for today and had enough of it... Replay value is pretty close to zero: simply because you can't make it less repugnant. And repugnant replays are always.
Shockgamer @ Oct 25th 2007 1:16AM
I hate to admit it, but while I was trying out the MoH: Airborne demo today I-just for a moment-wished I had the Wiimote and nunchuk instead of the 360 controller.
Oh god, I better buy Devil May Cry 3 and Ninja Gaiden and do a marathon session before I regress further!!

Retarded Peter Parker Face FTW
Ihar `Philips` Filipau @ Oct 25th 2007 9:24AM
You Xbox360 fans have to push MSFT harder.
IMNSHO for a console with such FPS line-up having no dedicated FPS controller is just lame.
No offense implied, but in part that caused by "living in denial" that "classical controller of Xbox360 is near perfect". It is perfect - as classical controller. But as FPS goes - it sucks badly. With all the hype around Halo3 I thought that MSFT would release some FPS controller specifically for it - but no luck, Halo3 still played with classical controller.
It is kind of silly when non-gamer casual girl on demo stand of Wii's Metroid Prime plays better than some profis in uberkuul demos recorded from Xbox360/Halo3. Movements, targeting - classical controller simply can't do them well. People aren't beating game/opponents as much as they are struggling with and beating controls.
DangerMouse @ Oct 25th 2007 1:21AM
PSP Graphics FTW!!!!
Holy shit this game is ugly. Wii controls to the rescue!
vidGuy @ Oct 25th 2007 1:26AM
I think it looks pretty nice. On par with late XBOX games, which unfortunately is an improvement for Wii graphics in general.

That is a dumb comment. Unless you're kidding, in that case, lolz!
GRANTED @ Oct 25th 2007 10:35AM
anyone else get a little nostalgic looking at those pics? not trying to be an ass here--it really reminds me of some older-school pc shooters that i had a blast with back in the day. these graphics don't really bother me. its not gears, but it's not unplayable.
NaeemTHM @ Oct 25th 2007 1:44AM
Hmmm...this is a pretty big claim. I mean we all know how fantastic Metroid Prime 3 was, so I would be hard pressed to see MoH do it better than Retro. Especially seeing how the last 34 MoH games were pretty lackluster.
accidental @ Oct 25th 2007 5:06AM
I remember reading that they've got a dude on the dev team who did a thesis in mouse control. So I can understand how they might excel in the control department.
kennethrios @ Oct 25th 2007 1:53AM
I am now interested enough to rent this. If it is good, I will buy.
Fullmetal Salchemist @ Oct 25th 2007 1:59AM
Captain Obvious to world:
Matt Casamassina has also already proven time and time again that he's full of crap.
Sidepocket @ Oct 25th 2007 2:16AM
Explain oh kind of dumbness...
samfish (MSDF- Nurse Outfit!) @ Oct 25th 2007 2:18AM
Yeah! That Damn lying sonuvabitch said he played Halo DS! We're STILL waiting, Casamassina!
. . .
Huh? Oh, he did? Really?
Well! Never mind, then!
Fullmetal Salchemist @ Oct 25th 2007 1:58PM
You are aware he played a re-skinned Goldeneye: Rogue Agent, right?
megaStryke @ Oct 25th 2007 2:09PM
Or was GoldenEye: Rogue Agent a re-skinned Halo DS?
Ahhhhh! Philosophical conundrum! Did I blow your mind right there?
harrison_schaerr @ Oct 25th 2007 2:09AM
well, that certainly sounds promising.
makes my blood start to boil when someone disses retro studios...
but then i just remind myself... it's been 5 years since metroid prime 1 on the gamecube, and metroid prime 2 and 3 were both disappointments...
let the hate commence!
bm @ Oct 25th 2007 2:11AM
... why?
harrison_schaerr @ Oct 25th 2007 2:21AM
ocarina of time! majora's mask! windwaker! metroid prime 1!
NINTENDO WTF IS WRONG WITH YOU?!!
METROID PRIME 2? TWILIGHT PRINCESS? CORRUPTION?
THESE GAMES ARE TEH SUXXORS!

o ok
Shagittarius @ Oct 25th 2007 2:10AM
Even if the controls are twice as good it will still sell half as many copies.
Martin @ Oct 25th 2007 8:05AM
I can't wait for the day your trolling ass gets the BAN HAMMER.
MariosInferno @ Oct 25th 2007 8:32AM
Oh....really nothing new to add.
Shagittarius @ Oct 25th 2007 11:55AM
Oh, I'm sorry I commented about the fact that 1st party titles outsell third party titles. God that was such a slight against Nintendo.
You guys need helmets.
Pimliconite @ Oct 26th 2007 2:54PM
BEHOLD THE ARTFUL DODGER!
bm @ Oct 25th 2007 2:11AM
The only way they would be better, would be if they finally implemented real mouse-type controls where you actually drag the screen around physically. Not like currently, where you stop in a corner and the screen keeps turning. No, like a mouse in that when you move your mouse to one corner of the mouse pad, the aiming stays steady right there.
There would have to be a button or something for "lift mouse off of mouse pad" but it could double as a direct-to-screen aiming switch or something.
I'm probably getting my hopes up as no developer has done this yet. Have there been any pc mods that do this?
Superuser @ Oct 25th 2007 5:20AM
In COD3 you can set it to a mouselike "move screen with moving crosshair" style. It's really good! But i like the "new" way much more. I'm even so much used to it, that, while i'm gonna buy COD4, i already miss it in there! All non-Wii FPS look now pretty "artificial" despite the great nextgen graphics to me...
mcintits @ Oct 25th 2007 10:38AM
Just make the bounding box really small and you should get this effect.
Crono (NDF - Knight of the Old School) @ Oct 25th 2007 11:37AM
BM, I had my PC hooked up to my TV with a gyration mouse. Shooters worked exactly the way you describe.
It sucked. Alot. DO NOT WANT.
bm @ Oct 25th 2007 7:50PM
Superuser and mcintits: I don't think you really understood what I meant.
Crono: well maybe a good developer can make something of it, like Retro did with the control style in MP3.
ThornedVenom @ Oct 25th 2007 2:35AM
You guys can bash Matt Casamassina all you want, but if the internet's "biggest Nintendo fanboy" dares point out that a third-party offers even better controls than whatever was published by Nintendo (Metroid Prime 3 in this case), then DAMN THAT'S A GOOD STANDARD.
Let this finally be the dawn of great third-party games to rain on the Wii, in the same fashion as the DS.
why not the LS2LS7? @ Oct 25th 2007 2:36AM
Well, considering the Prime 3 controls were useless if you didn't set it to advanced and then they were still sub-par, I don't see how besting them is amazing.
Prime 1/2 controls were better than Prime 3 controls.
megaStryke @ Oct 25th 2007 9:56AM
Yeah, that's a lie and you know it.
why not the LS2LS7? @ Oct 25th 2007 1:48PM
It's not a lie. And I know it.
Purple Haze @ Oct 25th 2007 3:18AM
Well to me this just makes sense, they probably copied the MP 3 controls in a couple of ways and thought "now how can we make this better?"
That said, better controls don't always make a better game. Also didn't Joystiq have a hands-on with this game?
Anticrawl @ Oct 25th 2007 5:53AM
Wish my control scheme would be implemented for the Wii. I have the perfect setup for a Wii FPS, screw this bounding box bullshit.
Rob Accomando @ Oct 25th 2007 6:48AM
If it IS better then it's ABOUT TIME! I was kind of hoping Wii would get some FPS with the control scheme I had imagined when Wii was announced. Hopefully this will continue with other FPS's released on the Wii.
Agent4187 @ Oct 25th 2007 7:21AM
Wow, all things considered, I may pick up this game as long as I can recognize what I am supposed to shoot at. 32 online multiplayer with no friend codes sounds nice, with great controls on top of that. Graphics were never that big of a deal for me, anyway.
Evan @ Oct 25th 2007 8:09AM
I can't help but think how awesome it would be to have Insomniac produce a Ratchet & Clank game on the Wii using this control scheme. Oh well, one can dream.
bighit24 @ Oct 25th 2007 8:10AM
Casamassina is a fat fanboy douche.

Oh well PSP exclusives can't stay exclusives but at least the Wii is getting a bad ass game.
If you see it buy it you won't regret it.
The first one in th e PSP was awesome,no lag in 32 multiplayer.
DesertEagle @ Oct 25th 2007 11:52AM
He might want to add that sniping, while using the Wiizapper attachment (in the 'on-rails' segments) is the most unintuitive, clumsy experience of this generation.
Matthew @ Oct 25th 2007 11:55AM
Of course a PSP port has better controls than a Wii-only title! Also, Mr. Casamassina has never fallen prey to hyperbole.
I think I'll believe this when I see it.
Sean @ Oct 25th 2007 12:10PM
Mmmm, pantsless Samus.
