The only downside I can really see to this is that for the Netflix service to be truly effective, it would have to interface with an always-on system. Do any of you leave your console on at all times? Plus consider the fact that your downloads stop when you're playing something over Xbox Live.

Don't get me wrong, I'd love to see this service folded into Netflix's model. It could function beautifully: Say you have a three movie plan; those three flicks download and when you watch one, you hit a button that says "return" or whatever; the movie vanishes from your drive and the next one on your queue automatically starts coming in. 'Twould truly be a beauty of a system. You know, if it worked that way.

Its not gonna happen for 3 reasons:

#1: Microsoft is banking out with XBL Marketplace and don't want another content provider cutting in on their action.

#2: Sony is working on a movie download service and is banking on selling the PS3 as a low-cost Blu-Ray player. Having unlimited (or cheap) movie downloads would but a serious strain on pushing Blu-Ray as the next video format.

#3: Nintendo is trapped in 1989 and just got the memo last week about this amazing new thing called the 'intarweb'. The deliberately crippled DVD playback on the Wii and even if they changed their mind, there isn't enough space on the internal memory to even save one television show.

Sorry guys, but its not happening.

Well it would be true that MS would looses some rentals to the Netflix deal, but not everyone would get it, so they would still be able to sell a few rentals. I am sure for the rentals they looses they would gain more money from the new subscribers, MS would make atleast $5 and maybe $10 a subscriber, with a tone more subscribers than renters. I have rented only one film from the marketplace, but I would happily pay $25 to $30 a month for something like this. You could drop all your movie channels.

Read this anyone who it concerns!

I pirate movies day and night, If this service became available, ESPECIALLY with streaming (no waiting, like the online NetFlix) I would pay for movies!

Do it NetFlix style, You can keep the downloads as long as you want but only have a few, and you can watch as many as you want! That would be fantastic!

Hell even it it meant subscribing to NetFlix to use it, I would do it.

I was going to say they could start by enabling instant play on Mac OS X but this explains why that hasn't/won't happen:

A day to download? What dial-up speed connection are you using?

Streaming is the way to go.

Been using Amazon Unbox with Tivo HD and it works like a dream. Also used Netflix's PC download feature when I still had Netflix. On the latter, only certain titles were available though. That was the biggest issue.

As far as disc, I don't mind seeing it go away in favor of streaming content directly to your TV.

After years of owning discs, I find that I don't watch them over and over, and they simply sit around collecting dust.

What Netflix needs to do is offer console games as well as DVDs. There currently is no reliable service with a good selection of both, and I would imagine it there is a significant market for it.

I remember when the dude joined the MS board of directors. First thing I thought of was Netflix streaming movies on the 360.

Make it so!!
