Harmonix needs to put a big "FROM THE MAKERS OF GUITAR HERO" sticker on the Rock Band box. I can't help but get the feeling that most people will think of Rock Band as just a Guitar Hero ripoff, even though it's far from the truth.

Guitar Hero 3 is out. My local Sears broke the street date and word is other Sears stores have as well.

I am fully aware that Rock Band was developed by the same team as Guitar Hero I and II. I am still getting GHIII instead. Why? Better overall track list, month head start, $80 cheaper.

Honestly, the game isn't that complicated. I don't think not being developed by Harmonix will make it suffer all that much.

i think people just aren't all that excited to sing and play the other instruments for such a high cost.
Even in REAL bands the people most people want to emulate the most are the singer or lead guitar, and if you want to do either, there are dedicated games for that where you don't need to purchase an entire hoopla of shit.
When these executives use the "Practically Free when you split it with friends!!!!" pitch, they are proving just how much of a disconnected lan party mentality they are living in. Sure, that idea could work... if the package came with a disc each for every instrument, you could go your different ways, and you could play over live/PSN.
The reality is people don't share well, a game that you have to pay $170 for and can only play it on saturday nights by sacrificing a night out to stay in and jam out with your friends all in one place is just not practical.

and thats why GH3 is just going to sell more, because they have realistic expectations of their customer base. Rock Band, good in concept, not realistic in practice.

I agree, I wanted to go in on Rock Band with my friends that I always hang out with on the weekends, but during the week, who would get the disc to play on? If the devs realized this and changed it, that would go a long way to making me feel better about not getting GHIII off the bat.

It's because people are to stupid to realize the developers who made GH1 and GH2 are making Rock Band. They don't realize GH3 has new developers and judging by the demo, it's definitely for the worse.

Can't wait for ROCK BAND!

To all the people who say, "I think people are going to count it as a Guitar Hero ripoff."

I counter with, "People will probably recognize it as one-upsmanship on the part of Rock Band and choose whether they want to rock out to the familiar and safe GH3 or the (dare I say it?) new and edgy Rock Band."

Rock Band is an ENTIRELY different thing then Guitar Hero. I'm TIRED of hearing about how "oh,Rock Band is made by the same people who did Guitar Hero". And? What's you're point? Rock Band is still a game where I need 3 people to enjoy it fully and it costs $170 out of the box. Guitar Hero on the other hand has 3 games behind it to continue with and now there's a new one (not to mention the track list is 100 times better to me then the one on Rock Band). Not to mention I can only imagine how much Rock Band is going to cost me in the long run if they expect me to keep buying music for it and investing in it like a friggin game console on it's own.

I'm so sick of the whiner babies jumping ship on Guitar Hero just because it's all Activision now. It's a GD rhythm game,it's not exactly rocket science that's going to be entirely screwed up because the original creators arent behind it. You hit a bar when the color comes on,I think Activision can handle it. If you want to go blow Harmonix, then be my guest. Me,on the other hand, care only about the finished product and how much I enjoy it in the end.

Knights of Cydonia? Sabotage? Guitar Hero F-T-W.

Here, here.

And actually, you need *four* people to fully enjoy Rock Band, plus an extra guitar which won't be available until next year unless you get one originally designed for, you guessed it, Guitar Hero.

agreed.
Would you rather have a game that does 5 things alright or a game that does 1 thing great.
I personally choose 1 thing great.

I'd rather have 1 game that does 3 things (Guitar, Bass, Vocals) exactly the same as in Harmonix's other games (GHI&II, K-Rev) and 1 new element that works really well too. I've played both and I'll be buying both, but I've gotta say, Rock Band is far more fun...and isn't that why we play video games in the first place?

If you only care about the finished product, shouldn't you then, by simple logic, wait til both products are released before you bash one of them?

To be honest I wasn't really sure how I felt about GHIII. However, after playing the demo I'm confident I will be making the purchase come November. The new interface is a welcomed improvement and the actual gameplay is the same gem that made the first two installments highly enjoyable. The set list is currently looking wonderful (as expected) and the price is just right. Can't wait to rock out again.

I just realized that Guitar Hero III for PC comes with the last gen 360 controller. I always found it the ugliest of all the controllers, and after experiencing the new, wonderful one, there's no way I could live with it.

No longer planning on getting it until I can buy it without a bundle and find a different USB guitar. I was so excited for this. Damn.

I should emphasize, before I get attacked, that by last-gen I meant last-generation of Guitar Hero, i.e, Guitar Hero II.

I'll get both, excited about both, mostly because I have a PS3 and these will be the first fully compatible guitars for the system. I play the PS2 version on my PS3 and it works fairly well, but having native controllers and hi def graphics will be a huge boon.

To the person who brought up the Duncan Hills coffee jingle as a possible final song for Guitar Hero III: I love you.

As for Rock Band vs. Guitar Hero III - I can't imagine life without either, though because of price and a (vastly) superior initial set-list, I'm definitely getting Guitar Hero III. When the separate instruments finally appear for Rock Band, I'll be picking up those drums. (And hopefully some great DLC will be up for grabs by then)

Is it just me, or is the timing on the GHIII demo off by just a touch? I've played it the last few nights, and have noticed that if I strum just before I'm supposed to, then I hit it. BUT, if I play like I do for GHII, I'm off.

Anyone else experiencing this?
