SouthPeak Games, after having gifted us with a forgettable RPG and a nauseating zombie hunt, has announced plans to break ground for the Wii by announcing Pool Party, its first title for Nintendo's console. If upon hearing that you had hopes of scantily-clad babes and jocks doing belly flops off the diving board, you may be disappointed, as this game concerns a pool of the other kind. You know, pocket billiards.
SouthPeak says that the game will include both single and multiplayer modes across 13 different types of pool, from 8 and 9-ball, to snooker, rotation, and black jack. In addition, Pool Party will include multiple environments, as well as various pool sharks to control. The title, which is expected to ship for the Wii in February, will also marry playing pool with waggle for what the publisher describes as "the most definitive pool simulation yet seen on Nintendo hardware." SouthPeak, Lunar Pool would like to have a word with you.
edit: it appears that the game is in fact already out, and has been for some time at least in North America, making the announcement sent our way some strange mix of internet tomfoolery and mysticism.

I liked playing the pool game in WiiPlay, and would happily pay for a full game.
But only if it's at a budget price.
And only if it has online.
So Pool Party doesn't look as though it'll do the trick.

OMG, not only has it been out, it is the veritable definition of Wii crap. It's incredibly craptacular. Its so bad you almost have to play it to believe it. Those characters you can select from? Those are non-animated 2d bitmaps. Physics? You can use english on the cue ball to make it spin in about a 1 foot radius circle. Seriously, a pool game that didn't even attempt to simulate pool ball dynamics in any way. OK, you're not going to license havok, fine, but at least play a couple of rounds of pool so you can fake it a little bit. Everything about the games presentation, polish, whatnot looks like it was developed over the course of one drunken weekend, possibly to fulfill some sort of contractual obligation.

Was Joystiq paid to post this? It smells a lot like an advertisement, with just enough sarcasm thrown in to make the post seem legit, but not enough to actually damage the reputation of the product being advertised.

A decent pool game might actually be cool on the Wii. Will it be worth $50 or groundbreaking? Unlikely. But innovate nonetheless.

Glad I'm not the only one who read that at first sight. Then I looked at the picture and said, "wtf?"

As Jellodyne pointed out, this game has already been released in some regions.
What I find most disturbing is the fact that the characters aren't original!
The main screenshot features the 'Jessi' model from Poser 6, which is quite honestly the bottom rung of 3D software. Southpeak should be embarassed to even own this software!
