Japanese hardware sales, Oct. 15 - Oct. 21: Surprisingly boring edition

"They'll never expect that!" I exclaimed to myself as I highlighted and deleted the 897 brilliant words that comprised an earlier version of this post. It seemed like a good idea at the time, with my desire to continually surprise readers leading me down the path more traveled. Indeed, this week's Japanese sales chart post (the 62nd!) would shock and baffle long-term readers by offering absolutely nothing of value outside of statistics and pleasingly colored arrows. This post would become the surprise birthday party for the 72-year old man! The agitated mountain lion hidden in the refrigerator! The hydrochloric acid in the bowling ball's finger holes!

I wonder how the PS3 will do when the White PS3 becomes available in mid November, should be more interesting. Why do they still include GBAs and Gamecubes when they are only selling about a hundred everytime?

Since we're applying Phattie's logic, the PSP is doomed since it fell 900+ units and the Wii will conquer all since it gained 4000+.

Yes I also wonder how the Ps3 will do ^Ruibing. Even if the new version doesn't have backwards compatibility I still think it would sell.

That's a big jump for the PS3. Has any of the new pricing/models actually come into effect, or is something else going on?

If the Wii hadn't reversed its sinking trend this week, the PS3 would have nearly matched it. That would have been something to see...

PS3 sales are up because people want to get one before only the nerfed ones are left.

Good for Sony to claw back its sales in comparison to the Wii.

does anyone know the total overall numbers for the consoles in all the territories? I know the wii has overtaken the 360 for next gen consoles, just curious what the current numbers are.

It's split about 45-40-15 by marketshare, Wii at about 13 million, 360 at 12, and PS3 at 5

It's nice to see the PS3 selling well (before the price drop), but they still need to focus on getting the games out. Once GT5 Prologue, White Knight Story, MGS 4, and Final Fantasy come out...that's when it will get interesting.

PS3 up a little over normal, 360 back down to normal, Wii is up a little, but the 20ks is about normal for it anyway

Well we finally have our answer as to where exactly the PSP will level off in sales. It seems that sales are staying constant around the 58,000 to 60,000 area. Thats well over twice what it used to sell before the slim release.

Now, I may be the only one that wants this to happen (although I pray, for the sake of all mankind, that I'm not)...but are those stupid lolcats EVER going to go away? 'Cause I have yet to see a funny one o_O

While it is hard to tell with dark powers of this nature, I'm going to guess that it's just lying at the edge of a piece of furniture staring at some sort of cat toy.

Wow, the PS3 is starting to close the gap in sales against the Wii. I mean it is way more expensive, yet is not selling a huge amount lower then the Wii. Another price drop, throw in MGS4 and FF13 and the Wii will be eating the PS3's dust. Don't get me wrong, I have a Wii and love it, but if they don't stop with all this shovelware the PS3 is gonna bitch slap the Wii. Sony may have started slow with the PS3, but i think it's really going to start selling like crazy in 2008!
