Today's most Tron-in-reverse video: The Gamer trailer
What do you get when you mix video game junkies and a video camera? Well, in most cases you get a lot of unwatchable junk. However, these guys have put together a fan-made retro gaming film trailer that ain't half bad. Sure, the acting isn't going to win them any Academy Awards or spots on the People's Choice list, but hey ... when you can stick some retro-gaming action in with live-action footage, we're all over it.
Check out the video above and imagine what you'd do if Donkey Kong showed up in your world. We'd be running the other direction, phoning every Italian plumber we knew.

Seen the majority of these jokes done before in various other ways (mega64/dave chappelle to name two) but oh well...i guess video games -> life could be applied pretty easily in anyway.
Pretty decent though

Mark my words: somewhere in the near future, some dude is going to make a high-budget film mixing real world and retrogaming, and guess what? It's gonna be critically acclaimed for being "original".
Mikeawesome @ Oct 28th 2007 9:54PM
and that dude, will be me. Fwahahahahaha!
Yuccadude @ Oct 27th 2007 4:42PM
If that was really GTA at the end, the guy woulda been all over the road and sidewalk hitting fire hydrants and everything, but low budget constraints are where it's at with these films. I thought the Tetris part was nice though, and Mario Kart was cool too.
ColossalHat @ Oct 27th 2007 4:45PM
When is Hollywood going to get around to raping Super Smash Brothers? I mean, they did Mortal Kombat, DOA, and Street Fighter.
ThornedVenom @ Oct 27th 2007 8:23PM
People all over the place would complain why character X wasn't there, why character Y was so weak, and why character Z didn't look at all like the original.
Alex @ Oct 27th 2007 4:56PM
...and that kids is why you shouldn't do drugs.
Kye (NDF - Earth Ring) @ Oct 27th 2007 4:58PM
The guy said the movie would be released in summer. Then the text said spring.
Which is it?
Oh why won't someone tell me which is it?
chinook @ Oct 27th 2007 5:03PM
If you weren't gay before watching this, you are at least bi-curious now.
Also, Smashmouth.
rivaldi22 @ Oct 27th 2007 5:13PM
I admit it. I loled a few times.
That's caturday for you.
Jess Q. @ Oct 27th 2007 5:21PM
They typoed "until." I mean, come on. Even if it was an accident, it doesn't take THAT long to render things anymore, so I doubt they left it in just cause it was such a pain to fix it.
Anyway. I thought it was cute. The GTA bit was my favorite part.
And the Smashmouth thing was a joke, I think. I lolled. Anyone listening to Smashmouth deserves to get their car stolen.
RudyHuxtable @ Oct 27th 2007 5:55PM
I mean, I swear. Does anyone spell-check anymore? C'mon: "untill"
Dude, seriously. Spell-check.
monkey3 @ Oct 27th 2007 6:31PM
What the hell does that have to do with Tron?
Plus, that douchebag was smiling in every scene.
Terrible.
Corbo @ Oct 27th 2007 6:50PM
Tron had some guy going into a video game. This has some stuff coming out of video games. The situations are reversed. Hence, Tron in reverse.
monkey3 @ Oct 27th 2007 7:43PM
Sorry corbo, but Tron did not have some guy going into a video game. He was pulled into a computer by the MCP, which had data from his stolen video games stored on it. So it was not like Tron in reverse
Corbo @ Oct 28th 2007 5:56AM
So... here, multiple video games are coming out of the computers and interacting with this guy. And in Tron, a guy went into a computer and interacted with multiple video games. Still not following your argument.
You know what? I don't really care. It's just a funny headline referencing a movie.
Penguin Warlord @ Oct 27th 2007 7:06PM
I want those 3 minutes of my life back.
horngreen @ Oct 27th 2007 7:42PM
I got 1 minute and a half of my life back by stopping that video mid way through. I then promptly BLEW it coming in here to type this. I suck.
WiNG @ Oct 27th 2007 8:34PM
Joystiq, I am really disappointed that you post a video as shitty as this one, and still have never posted the video game series my friend and I created, Life in a Game, even though we have 4.5 star votes from over 35,000 viewers, and hundreds, if not thousands, of subscribers.

Perhaps because you've already created so much publicity by mentioning it in the Joystiq comments?
gonk @ Oct 27th 2007 11:51PM
yeah those ones are better, but still kinda lame
monkey3 @ Oct 28th 2007 12:24AM
Joystiq may not appreciate you, but I do. Those really took me back to my childhood. Especially that first episode. I was thrilled to hear the Kraid's Lair theme, it is my favorite VG song of all time.
ThornedVenom @ Oct 27th 2007 8:36PM
at 0:20, that footage could so be memefied for videogame violence. >_
Spooky @ Oct 27th 2007 9:39PM
That was terrible. I think I got heartburn from it.
hvnlysoldr @ Oct 27th 2007 10:20PM
Must have been the egg salad sandwiches.
HineyWipe @ Oct 27th 2007 10:13PM
Kids, let this be a lesson to all: just because you can get your mom to buy you a video camera, doesn't mean you know how to use it, and be allowed to post what you film with it on You-Tube.
Ryan @ Oct 28th 2007 12:15AM
it was okay.. still cheesy.. but I mean come on, its hard to not compare it to the greatest movie of ALL TIME, The Super Mario Bros. Movie.
ill trooper @ Oct 28th 2007 2:26AM
These things always seem to be fixated on 'Mario' stuff.
Chris Price @ Oct 28th 2007 4:13AM
Hi, I'm the creator of the film -
Just a little background -
The film was done in about 4 days of lackadaisical shooting/editing, so don't think this is my best effort. I did it over spring break for a Race and Ethnicity course at ASU. The trailer was meant to mock previews for films in general, hence the "egg salad sandwiches".
Sorry to those who hated it. Thanks to those who liked it.
TheH2s @ Oct 28th 2007 7:48AM
I fear for today's youth when they can't spell a simple word like "until".
gonk @ Oct 28th 2007 3:39PM
i thought it was on purpose
ikiryou @ Oct 28th 2007 8:00AM
It was really enjoyable. Donkey Kong's intro was my favorite part. Honorable mention: the galpal at the beginning is 10.5 on the cute scale.
jopojelly @ Oct 28th 2007 8:00PM
...haven't I seen this same idea like....20 times before? especially during the NintendoShortCuts competition, which I should have won. (grr)
