Capcom and Sony Pictures Entertainment Japan today announced a collaboration that will see popular zombie extermination sim Resident Evil adapted into a full-length CG animation feature. The project, dubbed "Biohazard: Degeneration" in Japan (and presumably "Resident Evil: Finding Necro" in the West) promises "groundbreaking visual effects and a brand-new story line." Unfortunately, the rest of the press release simply yammers on about the (un)live-action dreck starring Milla what's her face.
Given the reassuring lack of certain German "directors" and the decision to embrace polygons over the pasty complexions of Hollywood C-listers, you may feel inclined to allot this game-to-film adaptation some anticipation. A similar approach yielded last year's Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children which, fan service fluff aside, at least managed to be entertaining and resistant to our recently invented word, "acraptation."
Biohazard: Degeneration is currently aiming for a "terrifying release in 2008."

Not gonna lie, I'd watch it.
Probably better than Apocalypse.

Please, Please let it be faithful to the videogames storyline. The movies were decent but weren't deserving of the Resident Evil brand. And if they do remain faithful please don't have cheesy voices and diologue like ps1 games.

The first movie was pretty faithfull: Didn't you see the amount of backtracking and empty areas it had?

Hey, who you callin' a C-lister? Milla is at least a B-lister!
Seriously, she's been in some pretty decent flicks, inlcuding the first Resident Evil film. Other noteworthy entrances would be:
-The 5th Element (with Bruce Willis)
-The Messenger (with Dustin Hoffman and John Malkovich)

The above has a point. They are terrible movies.

Awesome to the max! It can't possibly be bad. CGI zombies = AMAZING! I doubt they'd go with bad guys anything like RE4 or 5, that would be considered "racist" probably.

Any of you little girls crying about how bad those movies suck ever give a thought to how lame they'd be if they followed the story line?
Let's see, we get to watch her search for a fucking spade key for 8 hours, ignoring the fact she's trying to get through arickey wooden door and is carrying a rocket launcher.
As far as I'm concerned those movies elevated the games from the depths of retarded.

You've mixed up storyline and gameplay there.
I don't recall the mystical spade key being integral to Umbrella Corps various schemes.
Take a look at this for an example of a game storyline expanded into a very entertaining novel.

Or... Better still... They just don't make an RE film?
Games have bad plotlines because "little girls" go for these GoW style shooters and all that stuff. A good story in a game popular enough to be made into a film? Not likely.

...Just as your sister site 'Cinematical' reports rumors of a live-action 'Akira' possibly being in the works... Interesting.
I watch these things in the background on HBO while I'm working on some project - I ain't mad at any of the RE films, or the like. They aren't good, but I like I said - I do something like eat, work on the computer or build a remote-control car while half-watching.

Well, there's almost no way it can be worse than RE: Extinction, so I'm all for it. Now just make it a actually have the mutated type zombies (i.e. lickers and the skinless ape things in the first one) and we'll be set.

Polygons might be more faithful to the original Resident Evil games, but I dunno man... trading off Milla Jovovich? I just don't know...

Milla Jovovich and Ali Larter C-lister? Don't think so. At least they earn more money than Joystiq staffers.

Oh, right, because an actor makes more money than a blogger, they're automatically better at their jobs. I forgot that salary always equals quality. By the way? Uwe Boll also makes more money than any of us.
Also, as for this couldn't be possibly worse than Resident Evil: Extinction? It can always get worse. Even without Boll's help.
Is it just me, or is the hyperbole and thoughtless comment ratio getting up there of late?

They should make a movie using the original Resident Evil graphics engine. That would be solid gold.
