Stop trying to preach to our generation. It's useless. We're smarter than you, more selfish, more apathetic, and years of critical thinking (thanks to video games) and fanboy trolling make it impossible for us to ever lose an argument. So fuck your green planet, bitch!!! And most of all, fuck you dirty poor people who can't afford to spend your time playing video games! If there's a war or disaster, it's not my problem, just a button for somebody else to push. You simple-ass FUD motherfuckers!

Well, I intended for it to be sarcastic, but after reading it again, it sorta rings true, which is sad. See, if I spent a fraction of the time it took me to play through Halo 3 on something like tutoring an abused kid in a shelter or adopting a stretch of road, I'd be less of a hypocrite. I'm not preaching or anything, just that my smarmy comment kinda backfired on me.

What's worse is that even after pointing out my own apathy for the world, I'm still gonna spend much of my free time playing games. Whatever, I guess. I don't think I'm all that ignorant though, just misdirected maybe.

In poorer countries, games are still popular, just on pcs. I think the phrase should be 'entertainment is not the most important thing.'

Planet's important. I stay out of it's way if it stays outta mine.

BUT...and no one likes "buts"...entertainment predates electricity. We usually all have to worry about our families, friends, achieving our dreams...BEFORE setting out to end a massively made-up war. The world is full of opinions on stuff, and pleasing everyone is impossible.

For the record, there IS NOT PEACE in the world, and yet here we all are, talking about a guy NOT talking about games.

I see what Joystiq did there. Propaganda! Had they showed a picture of a less smiling Takahashi, or worst, one with a serious frowning expression, we would have all hated him before even reading the article

He's wrong on one point, and that's the whole "everything will be so bad that we won't be playing video games."

On the contrary, that's exactly WHY we'll be playing video games.

From the safety of our residential cubicles, shielded by 7" thick lead plating while asteroids rain down from the permanently burnt orange sky.

Wanna go for a walk in the forest? Load up Oblivion - that's the closest you'll get.

We're all going to die anyway.

No, seriously. The Sun is going to go into Red Giant phase someday. We'll all die then and that's a fact.

So f it.

Anyone who disagrees with this guy is a fucking loser and needs to get in touch with reality. He's absolutely right, VGs aren't the most important things in life. I kinda am ashamed of myself that I know more about video game news than I know about actual current news (I didn't know about the California fires until my History professor mentioned it). Even though I don't really like the guy (I mean he did want to work on playgrounds rather than make another Katamari game) he's absolutely right.

It's not a matter of disagreeing with that, Vegeta. I disagree with ANYONE who thinks that, because they were in a successful movie, sold a successful CD, or made a successful video game, they have the right to preach to their fans. FYI, I don't give a shit what you have to say, unless it's "Thank you" and "This is what I'm doing in my next game..."

And, yes, I do believe that every game designer, writer, etc. should thank us. Yes, they spend a lot of time programming and the such, but y'know what? We buy and play the games, and keep them employed.

Little girl: daddy, what's it gonna be like in the year 2000?

Dad: well sweetheart, for your sake I hope it'll all be peaches &
Cream.
But I'm afraid the end time is near. the cataclysmic apocalypse
Refered
To in the scriptures of every hole book know to mankind. it will be an
Era fraught with boundless greed & corruption, where global monitary
Systems disintegrate, leaving brother to kill brother for a grain of
Over
Cooked rice. the nations of the civilized world will collapse under the
oppressive weight of parasitic political conspiracies which remove all
Hope & optimism from their once faithfull citizens. around the globe,
Generations of polluters will be punished for their sins. unsheilded
By the o-zone they have successfully depleted, left to bake in the
searing naked rays of light. wholesale assassinations served to
Destabilize
Every remaining government, leaving the starving & wicked to fend
For themselves. bloodthirsty renegade cyborgs created by tax dodging
Corporations reek havok. pissed off androids tired of being slaves to
A godless & gutless system, where the rich get richer & the poor get
Fucked over and out, unleash total world wide destruction by means
Of nuclear holocaust, annihilating the terrified masses, leaving in
Its
Torturous wake nothing but vicious, cannibalistic, mutating,
Radiating,
And horribly dis-figured hordes of satanic killers, begged on
Revenge,
But against home , there are so few left alive. starvation reins
Supreme,
Forcing unlucky survivers to eat anything & anyone in their path.
Massive earthquakes crack the planets crust like a hollow egg shell,
Causing unending volcanic eruptions. creatures of the seven seas,
Unable to escape the certain death upon land, boil in their liquid
Prison.
Disease then circles the earth, plagues & viruses with no known cause
Or cure laying waste to whatever draws breath, and human-kind having
Proven itself to be nothing more than a race of ruthless scavengers,
Fall
Victim to merciless attacks at the hands of interplanetary alien
Tribes who
Seek to conquer our charred remains. this is extinction level event,
The
Final world front. and there is only, one, year, left.

Little girl: wow, that's cool, I can't hardly wait!

Dad: you don't have to, beacause here it is..........(echos out)

Busta rhymes: callin all live niggaz!!!!
Callin all live bitches!!!!
We got a job for y'all on planet earth
Flipmode world domination in progress..
Mutha fuckas!!!!!........

Wow, this article makes me sad. Kinda displays how depressingly shallow this industry is getting. Has it really gotten to the point where yall [article author] will mock a man for spending just a little time talking about the dire future this world is headed for? Joystiq has gone too far. Way to far. Just one more grand display of how behind this industry is.

The Halo generation never dissapoints.

I was at this keynote in Nottingham last saturday and Keita spoke no english other than a pre-written speech that explained he would be using a translator with him throughout his talk. He played some natural ambience in the background as he talked about his workplace, the noisy foreign neighbours underneath his flat and how he collects tokens from food to pay for Miffy merchendise that can easily be brought straight from the shelf. The Noby Noby Boy demo was set on the top of a large grey cube and showed the 'boy' starting off small and eventually stretching out his body to become all tubey and floppy. The boy could consume nearby farmyard animals and they would pass through his extended body and pop out of the other end with a light ring of smoke. Animals could ride the extended body like a ride (which he asked the crowd why it was funny) and the boy could be lifted and spun in the air to comedic effect. At the end he answered a good amount of questions from the audience and he later did small sketches of Nobi Nobi Boy on peoples We Love Katamari boxcovers and GameCity small program books; which I am now a proud owner of. :)

I would just like to say that I was at his keynote speech and I've never seen so much spin on a presentation as in that gamesindustry.biz article.
Clearly his headline is more catchy than 'Developer rambles on in a bizarre, zen-like presentation'. Or maybe he had a bit of writer's block trying to write something tangible about what was a very abstract(in a good way) keynote speech.

Keita mentioned about the environment what was essentially in passing and in a completely different context than most people in the comments assume from that dishonest article. In fact, most of it comes from when a snooty member of the audience asked him why he bothered to make games if he cared about the environment? why doesn't he do something more worthwhile.

It's a shame so many people have formed what seems to be a negative image of such an enigmatic developer simply from this trashy gamesindustry.biz news article.
