Lego Batman to include Man-Bat and ... Nighthawk?
We love it when news stories actually leave us more confused than when we began. Take, for instance, IGN's nugget that Jonathan Smith, head of production at Traveller's Tales, recently let fly with a few details about Lego Batman during a public unveiling of Lego Star Wars: The Complete Saga.IGN said Smith related that "Batman villains Nighthawk and Man-Bat are among the denizens of Gotham City who'll make it into the game." We'll let the fanboys froth for a sentence while we explain to the rest of you why that's so odd. ... As far as we know, there is no Batman villain named Nighthawk. Now, if we can geek out on you for a moment, there is a Nighthawk who's a cowboy who's appeared in a couple of Robin annuals. There's also Nightwing, a moniker used by (among others) Dick Grayson, after he got too old for the Robin gig. There's also a third possibility of Nighthawk being a new creation, but with such a deep rogue's gallery to draw on, that seems kind of pointless.
We've emailed IGN for clarification, hopefully we'll have something soon.

I would be delighted if we get to see Lego Bane shatter the backbone of Lego Batman. This is doubtful though.

and then Azrael comes in?

That's LEGO Azrael to you, buddy!

Having all of that drama happening in lego form would be perfect. He could let the Abattoir fall and all his lego pieces would spread across the floor.

Also, we should all level up with a increase in NP (Nerd Points) for participation in this discussion.

I'm holding out for Lego Batman vs Lego Predator.

thank god i have no idea what you guys are talking about
i just saw batman when he kicked ass

Wasn't Nighthawk a 6 Part comic book mini-series told in a first person perspective?
Justin McElroy @ Oct 29th 2007 3:45PM
Sort of. There is a Nighthawk character taken from Marvel's JLA reimagining Supreme Power who got his own mini. Ironically, he was based on Batman. But since that's a Marvel book (and Nighthawk's not a bad guy) I don't think they're talking about that.
Zertoss @ Oct 29th 2007 3:47PM
Let me guess, other villains include Lego Venom, Lego Dr. Doom, and Lego Magneto. Those are from the Batman universe, right?

That's the only NightHawk I can think of, Lego or otherwise. :P
megaStryke @ Oct 29th 2007 3:51PM
You lose. You lose so badly. Get out.
Zertoss @ Oct 29th 2007 3:59PM
Oh yeah, there was also this one:

and this one, which I managed to forget about in between reading and writing:

I feel like such a failure. :(
Gavin @ Oct 29th 2007 5:17PM
Don't listen to that guy, the Marvel Nighthawk IS related to Batman in that his is the Squadron Supreme version of his Justice League Counterpart. Just like Hyperion was Superman, Power Princess was Wonder Woman, etc, etc, etc
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Squadron_Supreme
Still, I can't see how Marvel would allow DC to croslicense the character.
megaStryke @ Oct 29th 2007 9:05PM
In other words, A BATMAN CLONE.
DemonGSides @ Oct 29th 2007 3:49PM
I would rather see the Epic battle between Batman and Superman in "The Dark knight Returns", or the even bigger one in "The Dark Knight Strikes Back" or "Again" or whatever it was.
Also: Do want tank.

"There's also Nightwing, a moniker used by (among others) Dick Grayson, after he got too old for the Robin gig."
You, sir, know your Nightwing. I'm impressed. Not many people would have thought to make note of the various people who've used that name. Good on ya!

i was there, IGN misquoted him. basically jonathan smith was going through all the characters who would be in the game including robin, batgirl and nightwing, and then praised the calibre of gotham villainy that they could choose from to put in the game. he went through a short list including the joker, catwoman and twoface, and said they were putting in as many of the weird and wonderful ones as possible. some kid in the front shouted out "man-bat!" and he said 'yes, man-bat, that's how low we're going', indicating that even the most obscure and rubbish of the rogue's gallery might get an appearance. which, considering lego star wars: the complete saga's huge character list (about 160), seems pretty likely to actually happen. (btw, wii lego star wars kicks ass, i got to have a go later in the afternoon and beat my opponent (playing general grievous) with aayla secura :)
Dave Silva @ Oct 29th 2007 6:52PM
But Man-Bat isn't "the most obscure and rubbish" of Batman's rogues gallery. He's actually a pretty fleshed-out character. Or was, until recently.
You want rubbish? If I see Then Penny Pincher, then you'll know rubbish.
Fullmetal Salchemist @ Oct 29th 2007 8:12PM
If they're really going to go obscure, then they need Condiment King and Pack Rat.
DaiMac79 @ Oct 30th 2007 10:25AM
Heh, how about the Creeper? He's sort of Bat-related, and they don't come much more lame or ridiculous.
rachel @ Oct 29th 2007 7:08PM
fleshed out to comics geeks maybe (of which i am one, so not intended to be derogatory), but not so much in the tv/film/game/more mainstream iterations which are probably better known to the general lego gaming audience. and the implication was his, not mine. personally i'm interested to see whether anarky gets in or not.
btw correction: i meant 120, not 160 in my previous comment
