LucasArts, BioWare collaborating on...something

With the dust only just now beginning to settle from Mass Effect developer BioWare's acquisition by industry powerhouse Electronic Arts, many of us believed that it would be some time before we got wind of the company's next project. It would seem, however, that we were wrong, as both BioWare and LucasArts issued a joint statement today announcing that the studios are working together on "an interactive entertainment product," stopping just shy of cluing us in on just what it is exactly that they are building behind the curtain.

The two bedfellows, which have previously worked together on KOTOR, revealed next to nothing about the new project, stating only that it will "deliver an experience that will span the traditional boundaries of video game entertainment." So, is this project the oft-rumored Knights of the Old Republic MMO, or something else entirely? The wheels of speculation are turning.

Or Cynical. Saying there might be a worthwhile Star Was MMO coming from a premier dev studio is akin to hearing an abusive husband promise to stop losing his temper.

Well if it IS another Star WArs MMO... hears to hoping that LucasArts doesnt authorize another NGE!

But given how thew current LA/SOE MMO is.. i can imagine htis will just be another jedi filled mess.

Dont get me wrong i love KOTOR and ot a lesser extent Jade empire... but i dont know how well those would hold up as MMOs.

But hey, here's to hoping i'm wrong on that account if it IS true

Lucasarts didn't 'authorize' the NGE....they were the ones that pushed it in the first place. SOE gets the constant negative rap for it but LA was the driving force behind it, not SOE.

oh i know that Tim, i'm just saying. I only partly blame SoE for that... iknow any and everything that went in or out of the game can be laid squarely at LA's feet. After all when it comes to the SW license what they say goes...even if it is unadulterated crap.

I don't know if it will not be a jedi filled mess. The main point of kotor is to play as a jedi, however there can't be 500,000 jedi running around in the star wars universe. That makes no sense.
I would much rather the game be kotor 3 then an mmo, but it doesn't look that way.

For what it's worth, It'll probably be the MMO for PC, because developers seem to enjoy NOT making MMO's for consoles. Besides...who said anything about EA publishing?(read...if a deal or contract was made before the aquisition...etc.)

I live here in Austin and know some people in the game industry circles. From the hints that have been dropped , It's definitely a Star Wars MMO. They are going to hopefully kill SW Galaxies (thank god) and make the game the way it shouldve been made.

Didn't Bioware develop the Mass Effect and Dragon Age IP so that they wouldn't have to be bound by the strictures of someone else's IP ever again?
Was that a lie? Or did a big truck full of Lucasmoney remind them why it was a dumb idea in the first place?
