Who knows. All i want to know, from the writers, if they played HAZE and COD4. Which is the better buy? Gameplay wise, because i heard graphics for both are great. I want to know what gameplay online and OFFLINE are better?

I hear COD 4 is a Gears of War 4-5 hour marathon of a campaign. I gotta have it, but Haze may be deeper...

From a Danish PS3 site:

-Turn your PS3 on and off with PSP Remote play
-A new PLAYSTATION Network category
-A TV Category for those who install PlayTV into their HDD (SCEE only).
-Playlist for Music & Photo
-Content group for Video & Game
-XMB customization (Custom theme & background color setting)
This will come with one alternative custome theme. Addition generic themes will be available for download via www.playstation.com with game title themes to follow on Nov 20th, distributed via the Store (PS/PC). The cost of the game themes haven’t been decided yet. Guidelines for users to create their own Custom Themes will be distributed via www.playstation.com shortly after the firmware hits
-Information Board:
This will be shown in the top right of the screen and include news feeds from Playstation.com as well as store updates. The board came be set to ticker mode, list mode, details mode or disabled.
-Trend Micro Web Security for PS3™ internet browser:
This is a parental lock for website viewing that will initially be free but that Trend Micro will later charge for.

Pretty nice, no in-game XMB, but PlayTV for us Europan users :D

Jakob, all those points through that list were pointed out as nothing but RUMORS by Joystiq.

Nothing is confirmed yet.

Anyway, Sony isn't stupid beyond belief. Every ".0" update requires a huge addition, and they know if they dont make it happen, they'll drown in flames.

It the update they;ve been waiting for, as we have too, no doubt But nothing has been revealed yet.

Yeah know its rumors. But still it mentions the feature about the remote turn on/off control. The other rumors about 2.0 didn't mention it.

I think it's true, but not sure (of course)

Remote Start lets you turn on your PS3 from your PSP. Anywhere where you have a internet connection you can remotely connect to PS3 and watch videos and listen to music off your PS3, Now you don't have to leave your PS3 on as your PSP can turn your PS3 on.

Between now and the next 3 days I am 90% sure Playstation 3 Firmware 2.0 will be out.

Could be a lucky guess, since the feature was announced at TGS.

@10

The Blu-Ray Disc Association mandates that any Blu-ray player released after October 31st must support Blu-ray Profile 1.1

With the 40GB PS3 releasing on November 2nd it must support Blu-ray Profile 1.1 and there for we must get an update by the time it release.

So today or the next 3 days we should see a update with Blu-ray Profile 1.1 support.

@10: Because he's thinking the 2.0 firmware will drop Thursday, when we normally get fw updates. Especially since the PSP firmware update came first which usually doesn't happen.

You misspelled "PlayStation Network"

I wouldn't consider myself a spelling nazi but this is the PS3 fanboy website, you'd think you could spell PlayStation right.

For the people ranting and raving about custom soundtracks, I believe this was already implemented into the PS3 as a firmware update before. Just because the PS3 allows it, though, doesn't mean that you can do it in just any game, it has be a feature that developers make use of. If there are no PS3 games that feature custom soundtracks, don't get mad at just Sony. For example, they've said that they did not force motion controls in Lair, even though it only uses motion controls. Don't get mad at Sony for the features, it's up to the developers to use those features.

Also, if the Blu-ray patch is given a quick fix as 1.95, don't get pissed off at Sony. Give them a break. It will be out when it does. And even if they don't incorporate the features you like (in-game XMB), you need to chill out. Remember that the PlayStation Network is completely free and be grateful for what you already have. It annoys me to see people complain about every PS Store update and system software update. I'm grateful for the fact that the PS3 even has an online store and system software support.

do you think remote startup will work over wireless?

PC's can use "wake on lan" to be remotely started, but don't think wifi / wireless cards do the same thing, will be interesting to see..

( i don't / fiancee won't let me drill holes in the wall! )

I don't give a crap about these updates. I just play games and watch movies. Everything works. New games are coming, Home is coming. I don't get why people are waiting for this. I still don't know what 'remote start' is... so I can grab a controller and turn on the ps3? And I've been pushing the power button all this time? Poor me!

1. Friend list accessible from in game.
2. Join games/send invites with a click of a button.
3. Custom soundtracks

Then,I will be truly happy with my PS3. Resistance is the bomb online, but getting my friends in there is about a waste of 40 minutes in futility.

i remember reading on this site that firmware 2.00 will include the in game XMB, allowing for custom soundtracks. they might have pulled the plug on that for 2.00 though...

the actual custom soundtrack feature fo the in game XMB is apparently, needing to turn down the "music" volume on a game, go into the XMB in-game starting up the music, and it will continue to play once you exit the game, unless you want to have the XMB music and the game music running at the same time.

srry. it will continue to play once you quit out of the XMB, you can keep playing the game.

Remote start from the PSP??... is it me, or does it sound like Sony's getting ready to make the PS3 a type of 'server' for the PSP? Can't see the use of this otherwise...

FOR THE PEOPLE WHO DONT READ:
REMOTE START is where you can use your PSP to turn on your PS3 from anywhere around the world (if theres an internet connection)...

Considering that it says you need ps3 system firmware 2.00 or higher, I'm guessing that they have version 2.00 almost ready for release, and that they'd be releasing in the next week - they wouldnt just release that psp firmware on its own for a while. the firmwares were probably supposed to be released together, but they had a minor problem with the ps3 version so decided to release the psp version anyway cause it was ready.

Things I hope 2.0 will have:
* In-game XMB - specifically custom music (i know a lot of people are complaining about how they don't care about it, but seriously it's really good to have when you got parties)
* The psp remote start, of course
* An option where you can only let controller 1 push the PS button in-game (lol, i guess it doesnt really matter, its just annoying when your owning everyone in resistance and then they go and change their controller to first player)
* Support for AVI and DivX files (because i cant be bothered converting every single video to mpeg4 files)

I'm gonna be optimistic here, and say that if we're REALLY lucky, they might just trick us about the whole 2008 Home thing and just throw that in with everything else!

If SONY wants me to spend my $$ on buying a PS3 let's see the following:

- DivX + Xvid codec support
- Skype

Until then, my $$ sits in my pockets. I'm waiting...

DivX and Xvid would be a great addition, but I have to wonder if Sony's movie department is denying the PS3 those video codecs - since movie pirates love those formats.

Making it a pain to convert video files to MPEG (or AVC) may be a way to slow some of the pirated materials from being used on a PS3.

I got really excited when I installed the update and went to the video section - all the AVIs I have in my video folder appeared there, with a thumbnail photo! This is IT, I thought! I can now play my video files via the PS3!!!
Then I tried playing one...
'data corrupted', I was told.
Bummer....
So... WHEN will DIVX and/or bog standard AVI be supported?
