Resident 'Wii'-vil 4 ships a million units
Looks like the spit and polish Capcom put on Resident Evil 4 for the Wii paid off as the game has shipped one million units worldwide. It seems we're now able to say that the Wii version of RE4 brought the old game back from the bargain bin grave and gave it life once more at a consumer friendly $30 price.
Capcom plans to keep showing that third party developers can cash in on the Wii with the launch of Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles on Nov. 13 and We Love Golf early next year. It's worth noting that Capcom really has been the publisher to watch on new consoles. So far they've had numerous million sellers this generation like Dead Rising and Lost Planet -- well, at least outside of Japan.

But I thought third-party games don't sell on the Wii! This is an OUTRAGE!
Zertoss @ Oct 30th 2007 5:08PM
It's not even a minigame collection! Someone needs to pay for this.
Vegeta (aka Ska Oreo) @ Oct 30th 2007 5:43PM

Three year old Wii games for the win!
Guess I can't blame Capcom. They saw an opportunity and made the best of it. Wii owners are desperate for any trace of a good game, so they don't mind replaying a game that most of us loved and were finished with about 2 and half years ago.
Despite being the console sales leader (fueled 75% by Japan), the Wii is still the most pathetic console in recent history.
playwhutyalike @ Oct 30th 2007 6:54PM
Yeah, Sony wishes they could be "pathetic" too. I wonder how the sale of thier stock is coming along.
nick @ Oct 30th 2007 8:06PM
Typical. When the Nintendo zealots see any criticism of their system, they immediately attack Sony. As if bringing down the manufacturer of a competing console is going to make all the Wii owners have better games and more fulfilling lives.
Lets try to stick to the subject for once. A 3 year old game is currently topping charts for your console and everything else is shovelware crap. What, oh what, is a loyal wii fanboy to do?
SoulBlade @ Oct 30th 2007 8:14PM
my guess is a wii fanboy would be secure enough to play the wii and any game he/she actually finds fun without caring about comparisons with other consoles. i mean... does it matter what games are on the wii or does it matter if the games themselves are fun? or has video gaming just become a "my system is better than yours" kind of thing and only tards participate?
flameofdoom666 @ Oct 30th 2007 5:05PM
I am starting to really like Capcom...
Devil May Cry, Devil May Cry 2, Devil May Cry 3, Killer 7, Viewtiful Joe, Viewtiful Joe 2, Okami, RE0, RE1, RE4-
They are overall making very good games
flameofdoom666 @ Oct 30th 2007 5:06PM
oh yeah! And Zack and Wiki (which is AMAZINGGG)
samfish (MSDF- Nurse Outfit!) @ Oct 30th 2007 5:12PM
You forgot God Hand, which is the GREATEST GAME EVER MADE.
flameofdoom666 @ Oct 30th 2007 5:22PM
Isnt that the fighting game that got like a 4.0 on IGN?
samfish (MSDF- Nurse Outfit!) @ Oct 30th 2007 5:25PM
It was a 3/10. Now you know why IGN sucks so hard. Terrible, terrible taste, clearly.
flameofdoom666 @ Oct 30th 2007 5:39PM
You liked the game though? I never really looked into it.
Ren @ Oct 30th 2007 5:51PM
@flameofdoom666
Just try the game, it's only 20 bucks.
flameofdoom666 @ Oct 30th 2007 5:55PM
haha, I got like 20 games sealed! No timeeee!
When I get time, I will look into it :-)
Good to know :-D
samfish (MSDF- Nurse Outfit!) @ Oct 31st 2007 11:46AM
Like it? I love it! I'm being quite serious when I say it's the best game ever. Easily the best game of 2006, at any rate.
dan stabbingworth @ Oct 30th 2007 5:09PM
That We Love Golf thing keeps making me wish that Nintendo would make a golf game exactly like the one on the Wii Sports disc, except with a shitload more holes.
dan stabbingworth @ Oct 30th 2007 5:10PM
Ummmm, http://www.xbox.joystiq.com
Am I missing something? I was confused at first why my password wasn't saved.
flameofdoom666 @ Oct 30th 2007 5:52PM
That game that "capcom is making" is not true! Camelot Software Planning is making it! They are a second party developer for Nintendo. They make all of the Mario tennis/golf games, plus golden sun. I consider it a Nintendo game- I really have NO idea why Nintendo isn't publishing it them self- its weird.
SoulBlade @ Oct 30th 2007 5:12PM
thank the gods for Capcom. I picked up Zack and Wiki... its a breath of fresh air - really clever and enjoyable and actually a challenge at times.
However... I'll hate them forever if they screw up Street Fighter 4.
bender @ Oct 30th 2007 5:17PM
Capcom is my favorite third party dev. They don't usually try to rush crap games onto the market.
Jay @ Oct 30th 2007 5:19PM
Triple-Dip I wonder when the DS version of RE$ will come out. Capcom is good for milking a series.
Crono (NDF - Knight of the Old School) @ Oct 30th 2007 5:23PM
Wait. Do you mean Rez, or Resident Evil (your $ confused me.
There is already a Resident Evil on DS, btw.
Kristof @ Oct 30th 2007 5:30PM
Yes, such a tragedy to "triple-dip" ... oh look, Madden came out on how many systems? RE4 comes out on 2 systems one year and then made better PLUS more games added for one more system - and that qualifies as a triple-dip?
I believe triple-dip falls in the category of the same game on the same system 3 times (excluding sequels)
RE4 is on 3 different systems, with a massive improvement and more game added on the 3rd.
Rob Accomando @ Oct 30th 2007 5:30PM
I've liked Capcom since the NES days. 95% of their games are top quality.
Sean @ Oct 30th 2007 5:48PM
NES platformers made by Capcom ftw! Mmmm, Duck Tales, Chip and Dale Rescue Rangers, Mega-Man, etc.
Rob Accomando @ Oct 30th 2007 5:52PM
yup, and don't forget Bionic Commando, Commando, Ghosts & Goblins, Gargoyle's Quest 2, GunSmoke, Mega Man series, Strider, Trojan, Willow, etc.
Then there's the countless SNES games.
Mr Khan @ Oct 30th 2007 5:42PM
Hmm, hopefully this is a message to 3rd-party developers
If Game = Good Then
Sales.Big = True
Zertoss @ Oct 30th 2007 5:48PM
I wish that were always true. See Beyond Good & Evil and Psychonauts.
arrrgh @ Oct 30th 2007 5:51PM
bg&e was AMAZING.
unfortunately for that formula to work
public awareness = true
must also apply
vidGuy @ Oct 30th 2007 5:57PM
I'd be surprised (and impressed) if Zack and Wiki ever cracks 1m sold even though it's one of the best games I've played in years.
Zertoss @ Oct 30th 2007 5:58PM
Yeah, and you might not want to launch your new IP alongside a heavy hitter like Halo and Smash Bros. and their ilk.
Shagittarius @ Oct 30th 2007 6:01PM
What this actually says to publishers is 'If we rehash a last gen game we can sell lots of units'.
Publishers are slightly retarded.
Foetoid @ Oct 30th 2007 6:21PM
Yeah good call Shag, sounds just like Halo 3...
arrrgh @ Oct 30th 2007 6:43PM
which is why i'm not wsting my money on halo 3
I'll wait until they can make an fps that is decent EVEN by PC standards....not just one that's "good...yknow...for a console"
why not the LS2/LS7? @ Oct 30th 2007 7:58PM
Here's the message.
if game.price == $30 then
sales.big == true
Clack @ Oct 31st 2007 12:34AM
"I'll wait until they can make an fps that is decent EVEN by PC standards....not just one that's 'good...yknow...for a console'"
Then you want a Wii. Its the only system this generation with controls fit for a FPS.
t_m @ Oct 31st 2007 2:28AM
Unfortunately its not that simple. I know its nice to boils things down to basics... but for the Wii it just doesn't hold up.
Factor A is that the Wii userbase is very diverse.. games that appeal to families won't appeal to old-school-gamers wont appeal to bowling grandparents. Thats why Wii Sports is one of the few that appeals to all sectors.
Factor B is that a lot of non-gamers bought the Wii, and then were pretty shocked by the $50 price tag on games. Most of us are used to paying that price.. but most non-gamers are used to paying cd/dvd prices for their entertainment. $50 is just too high for a casual purchase for a lot of people.
Count Noobula @ Oct 30th 2007 5:59PM
Things I would like to see Capcom do: Phoenix Wright on Wii, Remake/Update Strider 2 for XBLA and PSN.
Jamie @ Oct 30th 2007 6:20PM
I owned this game for the GameCube. I also bought it for the Wii. And beat it twice.
Clack @ Oct 31st 2007 12:37AM
There are people like me who are serious gamers but have skipped the past ten years of console gaming because it's been pretty lame overall (and because I was dumb enough to spent a ton of $$$ every year upgrading my PC). I got to experience this game for the first time on the Wii, and am thankful for Capcom retooling it.
Jeff @ Oct 30th 2007 6:39PM
Capcom has been putting out some amazing games. Moreover, they're all rather unique games. Sure, Lost Planet was a shooter, but c'mon; it definitely had some platforming elements, and it had a very distinct feel. Same with many of their other recent games.
James @ Oct 30th 2007 7:00PM
I might have to get this game. Didn't bother with the Cube version, LOL at PS2 version. Wii one sounds about right especially if all this raving around good controls is true.
arrrgh @ Oct 30th 2007 7:11PM
tis true.
bought on gc beat it until i had the inf. rocket launcher and chicago typewriter and 10m in surplus cash on hard :D:D:D:D love that game. The kind of game you can beat and start right over and still feel great about playing it.
The wii version is amazing. Best of every version combined into one with remote aiming :)
the only thing I liked better in the GC version were the quicktime events where you had to hit the buttons quick/in order/etc shenmue style
zero @ Oct 31st 2007 9:49AM
Except for all the exclusive PS2 content that the Gaym Cube lacks... I agree...
Crono (NDF - Knight of the Old School) @ Oct 31st 2007 2:36PM
Zero, Resident Wii-vil 4 is the most complete version of the game, as it has the great visuals that the gamecube had, and it has all the extra content the PS2 version had, AND its got controls that make sense for the game.
ron1587 @ Oct 30th 2007 7:20PM
They should just release the game for the 360 already. I beat it twice on the Gamecube but wouldn't mind a couple more rounds with achievements on the 360!!

RE4 is probably the best game ever made. RE4 Wii Edition = even better!
This game haunts my dreams.
gonk @ Oct 31st 2007 12:05AM
