Today in Joystiq: October 30, 2007

This is an incredibly awesome set of costumes based on Portal shown to us by reader Koudelka (more pictures via the link). According to his comment, his girlfriend "cleverly designed a portal gun out of nesquick containers, milk jugs, glowsticks, a fuel line and a toy gun." Total awesomeness. Just to beat everyone to the jokes...
I'd eat THAT moist delicious cake!
Ok, joke's gone. Time to make real post, people.
Jeff @ Oct 31st 2007 7:35AM
Not gonna lie, I had to look through the comments to figure out what the hell that was.
DVersion @ Oct 31st 2007 12:14AM
where's the orange portal?
hydralisk456 @ Oct 31st 2007 12:31AM
I assume it's on the guy's back, that's where I'd put it.
Rubang B (NDF - Heart) @ Oct 31st 2007 3:28AM
Putting the portal on the other side of a portal is self-defeating. Then you might as well be walking through a shower curtain.
smartguy1600 @ Oct 31st 2007 9:43AM
Actually in the game theres at least one time (at least when I did it) that I used one portal directly above the other one, and it was quite necesarry.
Ken Seang @ Oct 31st 2007 12:18AM
Ummmm..... yea O and go ahead and eat that cake cuase I wont.
Sieged Eagle @ Oct 31st 2007 12:20AM
That guy disguised as the CC kinda freaks me out. It looks like he is ready to stab you.
Nice costumes though, and that Portal gun kicks ass too.
Blast Processing Megadrive @ Oct 31st 2007 2:32AM
We assure you that he will never threaten to stab you.

I'm damn proud to be a geek! Now hand me some of that delicious and moist cake.

it takes dedication to go barefoot as part of your costume.
BananaBoat @ Oct 31st 2007 6:32AM
Sucks to be the guy that drew the short straw and ended up as the portal, instead of something cool like the companion cube.
On a completely unrelated note, a few months back I signed up for a free year of Electronic Gaming Monthly from Joystiq, and I just got my first issue in the mail. If anyone from Joystiq reads this, you might pass a thank you to whomever set that whole thing up. Thanks!
Jeff @ Oct 31st 2007 7:37AM
Oh yeah. Seriously. I got mine too; thanks guys.
Its pretty awesome. I got a free year of GFW for buying Lost Planet, and then this.
Christopher Grant @ Oct 31st 2007 9:19AM
BananaBoat: Glad to hear it! I hope we can do that sort of thing more in the future as well.
thenino85 @ Oct 31st 2007 9:09AM
Meh. Not very well done. But I was spoiled by the TF2 costume team being insanely awesome, even if they didn't have a BLACK SCOTTISH CYCLOPS!
Klink258 @ Oct 31st 2007 9:36AM
Hey, she has the heel springs too. Nice work.
It looks amazingly good, even in comparison to the TF2 costumes (at least the Chell costume)
Noone is going to do Gordan Freeman and Alyx to complete the trifecta? (I guess HL2 costumes are kinda old...)

It really is amazing how popular that game became.
Koudelka @ Oct 31st 2007 4:42PM
The original idea was to have two guys carry different portals around, but one of them bailed. So my girlfriend improvised a sandwich sign. (also the idea was kicked around to mount webcams and laptops on two guys, but that didn't pan out..).
She also did indeed bravely go without shoes for the whole night, which was colder than a witch's tit, I carried her shoes and spare tape inside the cube.
The companion cube was a 350% blown up version of the 4chan papercraft one, which unfortunately has a ton of asymmetries at that zoom level. :\
We're going to revamp the costumes and do round two at Otakon, so watch out. :D

You guys really did an awesome job. Just don't tell your cake friend how many guys on the Internet would like to see how moist and delicious she is. >.>
Chyld989 @ Oct 31st 2007 9:50PM
I think I went to high-school with that cake....
