Halo 3 center of $1 million competition
They don't understand you. Nobody does! You knew that when you skipped four consecutive shifts at the Chik-Fil-A that you'd have to hang up your waffle fry cutting appliance for good. C'est la vie. You had to listen to your gut. You knew that you had a higher calling, you were meant for better things. You were meant ... to get really good at Halo 3.
Now, the prophecy you pretended existed is coming to fruition! The Cyberathlete Professional League is holding a Halo 3 competition December 18 with $1 million prizes. When you take first place, you're going to walk away with a $250,000 slice. Imagine the look on your old boss' face when you buy his precious Chik-Fil-A! ... Well, maybe not buy it with $250,000, but maybe you could become a partner in the franchise. That's basically just as cool.

cyber-athlete? is that what they call nerds who can't play real sports now?
EMaster @ Oct 31st 2007 6:32PM
I know. WTF! Get off your asses, grab a basketball or soccer ball or something and play *REAL* sports. Nerds.
DangerMouse @ Oct 31st 2007 4:14PM
Is the Dr. Evil thing still hip to do?
Matt B @ Oct 31st 2007 4:17PM
Instead of 1v1, I'd be more interested to see teams of 4 co-op in a timed play through of the campaign on legendary. That would be more entertaining IMO.
Noshino @ Oct 31st 2007 4:44PM
yah, that would be entertaining, but the main events are always "everyman by himself", just one-win-it-all person....makes it more competitive
samfish (MSDF- Nurse Outfit!) @ Oct 31st 2007 4:20PM
Cyberathlete?
. . .
Push it to the limit!
Cause we're in it to win it in it to win it!
Oh yeah!!
Alternately:
The hours approaching, to give it your best!
You've got to reach your prime.
That’s when you need to put yourself to the test!
And show us a passage of time
Were going to need a montage! (montage)
Ooooh it takes a montage! (montage)

"Push it to the limit"
Oh god I have to hear that song all the time at my work. It's horrifying.

Corbin Blue FTL!!!
Sadly, thanks to my daughters...I unwantingly know every damn word. AAARGHH!

Wait...console FPS's take skill these days?
Did i accidentally time travel to the future where all console games have keyboard + mouse support?
Giving money to people for playing halo 3 "competetively" is like giving money to a guy that gets more heads than tails in a coin tossing competition.
samfish (MSDF- Nurse Outfit!) @ Oct 31st 2007 4:34PM
I like to imagine that you sound like Thurston Howell III.
Slaziman @ Oct 31st 2007 5:44PM
Get your elitist ass out of here. I'd like to see you winning against a really good Halo 3 player with just luck.
Clack @ Oct 31st 2007 6:04PM
I suppose it would take skill, since they're all playing with the same handicap. Just think of it as the Cyber Special Olympics.
Keyboard + Mouse isn't really *perfect* for FPSs either. You'd need analog movement control to get something approaching perfect. The Wii controls are about as good as K+M but fall short in some other areas (no intuitive way to do movement/aiming/strafing at the same time).
Geist @ Oct 31st 2007 10:38PM
Uhhh clack? No way to move/strafe/aim at the same time? You mean press A or D while shooting with the mouse? That seems pretty intuitive to me.
Clack @ Oct 31st 2007 10:45PM

I'm talking about on the Wii. The smoothwest way I can think of would be to use the motion sensors in the nunchuk so you'd start strafing after tilting it over about 30 degrees in one direction or the other.

Going to be so boring, MLG players aren't allowed to participate.
samfish (MSDF- Nurse Outfit!) @ Oct 31st 2007 4:32PM
Since when has watching somebody else play a game ever NOT been boring?
Noshino @ Oct 31st 2007 4:45PM
samfish,
Games in Korea are actually watched in TV pretty often, mostly StarCraft, still the best game, and no, it doesn't get boring to watch other people play StarCraft, that is what I love about that game, no matter how many times you see it, you'll learn something out of it.
That reminds me, since when have FPS's been the main game in a Gaming Championship? meh, miss the days in which Diablo, StarCraft, or Age of Empires were the main events, now THOSE were championships....
Justin B @ Oct 31st 2007 5:02PM
Koreans watch it. That means it must be good! I've spent more time on StarCraft than I have spent sleeping in the past six years and I would still never watch anyone play that game.
Diablo? What!? Because RPGs make great competitive games.
Mr Khan @ Oct 31st 2007 5:32PM
I used to make videos of myself playing PSO, but that was more because of how the idiotic banter made it all very humorous
Some games are fun to watch (Platformers, FPS in single player mode, MMOs) and some games are not (Fighting, Racing, RPG, Sports, Multi FPS)
gonk @ Oct 31st 2007 6:20PM
rts's are very boring to play and watch
Sean @ Oct 31st 2007 4:42PM
Damn Chicago for not having Chik-Fil-A and damn you for reminding me!
Mike-453 @ Oct 31st 2007 7:47PM
I find watching competetive gaming more entertaining than most physical sports, a bunch of men screaming over another man running with a ball or kicking a ball around, doesn't sound much better then watching games to me...
Dreamcicle @ Oct 31st 2007 10:20PM
True, but then you actually get laid when you play sports. The players in this "league" would burst into flame if sunlight touched their pasty white skin or ruin perfectly good pairs of pants if they come within 500 feet of a female.
Geist @ Oct 31st 2007 10:40PM
Except in cyber-sports (or whatever they're called) you have a bunch of men, who usually don't leave their house for more than a couple hours a week, screaming and shouting at one another. The difference is what they're doing is a joke to the rest of the world.
ThornedVenom @ Oct 31st 2007 9:22PM
If Poker can be considered as a sport (after all, it IS broadcasted on ESPN), then let Halo be a sport!
