Unreal Tournament 3 on PC Nov. 19 ... PS3 coming 'soon'
Midway announced today that Unreal Tournament 3 is gold for the PC and will start blowing stuff up Nov. 19. And what about the PS3 console exclusive version? Midway already covered their bases and said they don't think it's coming until 2008, but Epic's Mark Rein said at the time they're still pushing for '07. Midway's press release from today says the PS3 version "will follow soon." We're just curious to know how long after the PS3 UT3 launch will the Xbox 360 version be announced -- Epic has obviously found success on the platform.

Here's to hoping they push the PS3 version to 2008. With Haze, Uncharted, and Ratchet and Clank, my PS3 plate is full well into next year.
odium @ Oct 31st 2007 1:15PM
Erm... The 360 version has been know about for ages now, its coming 2008... So whats that rubbish about when the "Xbox 360 version be announced", when it has been for a long time...?
Jeff @ Oct 31st 2007 1:14PM
Wow, you have a small plate. =P

The demo is amazing. I didn't like any of the previous games, but something about UT3 just feels right. The balance is perfect, and it really is constant action. Plus its beautiful. Maybe not to the realistic levels of Crysis, but the artistic style is just gorgeous; the Shangri La map looks like a painting.
dave @ Oct 31st 2007 1:13PM
Anyone know the PC specs. I wanna get it soo bad. My HALO 3 is getting boring!
Jeff @ Oct 31st 2007 1:15PM
I like this game so much, that I will work teh g00glemonster for you.
"According to more reliable sources and Unreal fansites, the minimal PC system requirements for the Unreal 3 video game are Windows XP SP2 or Windows Vista as operating system, the CPU should be 2 GHz or more, the necessary RAM memory is 512MB, the graphics card must be NVIDIA 6200/ATI Radeon 9600 or better, and when it comes to HDD space you should have 8 Gigs of disk space available."
Honestly, the thing runs like a dream. Epic really knows how to squeeze every bit of power they can out of mem-shard lacking computers.
gonk @ Oct 31st 2007 1:16PM
get the demo and see how it runs
it ran fine on my comp, but the gameplay was pretty damn bland, it was like halo's gameplay on a PC, but in the style of gears (everything is brown rubble, etc)
meh
maybe if someone makes some decent mods i'll buy the game for them
Clack @ Oct 31st 2007 1:35PM
I played UT competitively and was very disappointed by 2k3 and kind of 'meh' about 2k4 (DM was back to fun, CTF sucked cow balls). I've been following discussions of this game amongst the old-timers of the franchise, and apparently they've really gotten back to a winning formula with this title.
Also, it seems like UE3 is finally a high performance engine. I always considered UE and UE2 to be bloated crap compared to the engines from id. If you have a system that can play 2k4 with everything maxxed, then you'll most likely be fine with this game.
Jeff @ Oct 31st 2007 1:46PM
Gameplay is bland? Wow. You must have been getting killed a lot. =P
d-pad @ Oct 31st 2007 2:30PM
I found the demo kind of bland.
Sure it's fun to play for like 15 minutes when you're bored, but that's about it. It's basically just a massive frag fest with Gears of War's art direction.
Not that that's a bad thing, it's just...a thing.
In conclusion, this post has failed to contribute meaningful content to the discussion.
Good day.
dsub @ Oct 31st 2007 2:55PM
I've got an AMD X2 4400, a Radeon X1950Pro, and 2gigs of ram and it ran super smooth on my PC at pretty high settings.
James @ Nov 2nd 2007 2:14PM
I agree, it does feel bland. To be honest I'd rather be running UT2004, but even then there are so many more characteristic FPS games on the PC that deserve more time. IE, Team Fortress 2.
dave @ Oct 31st 2007 1:15PM
I agree with Rubix wait till next year for PS3. Its going too win back some of that market. There is soo many good games coming out for it.

You seem to spend a lot of time hating. I've noticed it as a trend. Could you be one of those legendary "haters" that I have heard so much about on the internets? Perhaps one day they will develop surgical treatment for your condition, or even a prosthesis. Until then, most doctors recommend focusing on the things you like, and even love. Also eat a lot of chocolate and pet some puppies.
Rubix42 @ Oct 31st 2007 1:18PM
Jeff, my plate is large, just multi-console :)
Those 3 games on the PS3, and I am finishing up Folklore still.
Add in the Wii, and that adds in Mario Galaxy and I'm playing a ton of Guilty Gear on it right now.
Add in my DS, and you have FF XII:Revenant Wings, and I am working on wrapping up Zelda.
Add in my 360, and you have Mass Effect, Halo MP, finishing Overlord, and CoD4.
So my PS3 plate is 3 games, but my full plate is about 12 games deep. That's more than one game a week for the next 2 months.
Jeff @ Oct 31st 2007 1:48PM
Haha. Okay, muchh more reasonable than 3 games overfeeding you. I can relate, I only play PC and I'm going to have to blow $300 this month.

"We're just curious to know how long after the PS3 UT3 launch will the Xbox 360 version be announced -- Epic has obviously found success on the platform."
No shit huh? Announce it already!! Its gonna make a ton of more cash than the PS3 version anyway =) Cant wait!!
ulovemikeroch @ Nov 1st 2007 4:29PM
Ok, so which one of the dumb 13 year old fanboys are you? Fenix? CAX? MFed3?
stik_man @ Oct 31st 2007 1:37PM
This is by far the best Unreal to date. It's smooth, it's highly polished, the game play is balanced to near perfection, The vehicles are responsive and easy to control, and you get hoverboards. Yes you heard me hoverboards... and they friggin rock!
This is easily one of the best FPS of all time.
gonk @ Oct 31st 2007 1:43PM
do the hoverboards work on water?
F. Rocker or Fernando R.? @ Oct 31st 2007 1:48PM
Those boards don't work on water unless you have power...
Jeff @ Oct 31st 2007 1:52PM
Couldn't agree more. The hoverboards, on water, kind of fail, you can keep going, but very slowly, it has a cool sound effect and everything-- very immersive, believable technology.
On Suspense I love surprising people by going the low route, jumping off from behind their base onto the bridge and navigating on my hoverboard through the little bridges over the water-- damn near impossible, but fun to try.
F. Rocker or Fernando R.? @ Oct 31st 2007 2:05PM
Now... if only Epic put a flying DeLorian somewhere, that will be cool.
FidliousWong @ Oct 31st 2007 2:08PM
With Unreal Editor, you could do it yourself. I already have a Johnny the Homicidal Maniac character as well as Jhonen in the Happy Noodle Armor ready to go for this game.
Joshua @ Oct 31st 2007 1:53PM
This game supports keyboard and mouse on PS3...Does anyone know of any other consoles FPSs that do this? I'm thinking of supporting this game partly for that reason...
Jeff @ Oct 31st 2007 1:57PM
Seriously. That needs to become standard. I just can't adapt to controllers for FPS-- I mean, I can do decently against other people, but I feel handicapped when compared to how I usually play.
Sam @ Oct 31st 2007 2:27PM
You're right there jeff, Controllers + FPS = a whole world of lame.
Controllers should have never tried to breed with the fps genre and should have never created this disguisting bastard child "genre" today that is halo etc.
I'm fairly certain that epic is purely putting UT3 on the PS3 to milk the money train that is PS3 + Unreal engine 3 graphics = sales. Unreal championship didn't work, and unreal tournament 3 unfortunately just wont work on controllers.
Anybody who's not an idiot and has played a UT game on PC, will understand what i mean when i say that UT is just unthinkable with a controller. Its just not the same game. Its not high speed movement and hitscan accuracy weapons with super fast team tactics...no...its picking up the rocket launcher, holding fire and spinning your right analog until somebody dies.
Maybe i'm just a FPS keyboard+mouse purist...but UT is definitely that last multiplayer game that i would consider as controller friendly.
ANYWAY
All that being said...epic did add keyboard+mouse support to the ps3 so good on them. I just feel bad for the poor shmucks that are going to try and play this with a controller and think its going to be any fun at all.
Bring on the 19th tbh. My 880GT just arrived and i'm pumped as hell for this game.
Mak @ Oct 31st 2007 2:25PM
Didn't the UT devs say the Xbox360 version is not even underway yet, and woundn't be until the PS3/PC versions are complete.
If I were a 360 owner, I wouldn't be holding my breath right now. If you are VERY lucky, you might see it by summer '08, But I recon Q4 '08.
sinergy @ Oct 31st 2007 2:36PM
i don't think it would be much work to port from the pc onto the xbox360. i mean, that's really what the 360 is right? o_O
spigzone @ Oct 31st 2007 2:36PM
the praystaion 3 is future oriented ...
ThornedVenom @ Oct 31st 2007 3:52PM
This shall be on my Christmas list with Crysis... it's so hard trying to be reasonable at this time of year.
J-Man @ Oct 31st 2007 4:23PM
Sam, I complete disagree with you in that a purist may love what he/she has without hating on others, or attemp to belittle something that others may find enjoyable. I love the Keyboard and mouse when playing AA and C&C, but that does not mean they are better then someone using a controller. Its a simple matter of what I find comfortable and what they find comfortable. FPS as you put being put on console heck games being put on consoles in general sell far more then their pc counterparts because folks are more comfortable using a controller then a keyboard. That does not take away from their enjoyment of the game nor mine.
Calling someone a schmuck for using a controller is both arrogant, ignorant and foolish.
P.S if this double post I apologize
Dreamcicle @ Oct 31st 2007 10:29PM
KB/M IS better than controllers for fps. That's just the way it is. UT is all about speed, speed, and accuracy. When a controller can spin 180 degrees and fire a rocket right into the guy behind you in under a second for a kill (without autoaim) I'll concede that controller might become a contender against kb/m.
Jake @ Oct 31st 2007 7:49PM
I've heard many playing the demo that it is comparable to Halo. Not saying one is better or one copied the other, but just saying they are in the same vein of games. Fast paced run n' gun, power-weapons, jumping/dodging, etc.
If that is actually true, I am curious to play this on my 360. I find Halo quite fun, yet it doesn't seem like it would be that incredibly hard of a game to make. I am curious to play something like it, but made by another totally capable dev team. When I play games like COD, GRAW, R6V, and Gears on my 360 I quite enjoy them, but the gameplay possibilities and pace seem so incredibly limited compared to Halo, not to mention Halo has far better matchmaking and lag hiding.
I loved Gears and expect to love UT3. I am just curious to see if it is Halo with better graphics, better than Halo, or not as fun. Either way, I am already basically sold on it once it comes to 360.
Quix @ Oct 31st 2007 11:39PM
Wonder when the Mac version will be ready?
I'd rather do native than Boot Camp this game.
