Those ads are simply awesome. A lot better than the 360's "Jump In" campaign. Yah, "jump in" to the repair shop... Can't wait to see them on TV.

No I have to disagree though. The jump in ads were pretty fucking awesome, possibly the best video game ads that have ever made it onto television. Too bad that the best one of the bunch was banned (the one where everyone was playing shootemups with their hands, that was just epic). The Water Balloon one comes in at a close second.

Good god if I hadn't lived through the PS1 and PS2 eras I would be completely surprised by this. But I'm not. It's the same plan over and over again:

Initially really bad spots touting how the system is better then you. Weird disbelief about where they are in the market. And then after a brief period, finally decent marketing.

If anything I'd have to say it's some weird older generation-Japanese groupthink going on at the highest levels. I'm sure the people who actually are in marketing knew what was going on the entire time, but were tied down by upper management until all other plans failed.

these commercials fucking ROCK. i hope this will get a few people pumped up enough to buy comsoles. looks like sony's plan could work. knock down the price add quality games, then knock em down with killer commercials. i'm not a big fan of this song but maybe i will be now, it is PERFECT for this ad.

Easy there bro, I know it's rare to see Sony's marketing team do something right, but no need to foam at the mouth.

Good ad. Hopefully, it isn't too late. #60 and Wii are looking like they will have kickass Christmasses this year -- and Sony has dug a pretty big hole that it needs to fill in.

If they had done this from the start and at this price point, Sony would have been kicking everyone's ass from the get go. Nice to see them pulling their heads out of their collective asses.

Good job Sony! =)

R&C?? Heavenly Sword? They even had Spiderman in that commercial. Man are they desperate. The commercial was cool no doubt but Im not running to a Best Buy near me anytime soon. The PS3 may have brand loyalty but that loyalty is FADING ppl!! ITS FADING AWAYYYYY........... LOL!! In all seriousness a couple of my best buddies "were" PS and Sony fanboys until Gears of War came out. Then we started playing other games online too, COD2 and 3, Streetfighter 2 from Live Arcade. Shoot even Double Dragon on Co-op haha good times! But then Bioshock came out and now Halo3 and Orange Box. So we are supposed to go out and buy a PS3 for R&C or Heavenly Sword? No thanks Ill wait for Ninja Gaiden 2 which is **EXCLUSIVE** (published by MSGStudios) Nuff said PS3 is TEH SUXORZ!!

I'm not sure why you think putting those games in the commercial is "desperate". R&C is one of the best platforming series around, bar none. Despite all the claims of failure, HS actually got pretty good reviews with the biggest complaint being the length of the game. But given the popularity of games like God of War, I'm not sure why it's suprising they would use it in a commercial. As for Spider-Man... sure, most of us on this site wouldn't bother with most movie tie-in games, but if you've ever kept track of sales charts you should know that movie based games generally sell well to the general consumer. So, again, not a surprising game to put in a commercial. Besides, given that Sony is repsonsible for the Spider-Man movies, they have close ties to that IP.

Anyway, the games you listed for the 360 are great games indeed, but what does BioShock or OrangeBox do for someone wanting platformers or action/adventuire games? Nothing. Because, despite their popularity right now, there are other genres besides first and third person shooters that people really do enjoy.

Seriously, these are excellent commercials. They highlight all the exclusives and capabilities of the system in a concise, straight to the point manner. Liked the highlight of PSN and Home, too. It's really just what the doctor ordered for Sony for this holiday season.

As a PS3 owner....I will say the commercial is the best they've had.....but it is very reminiscent of the 360 Montages from E3 and TGS, etc.

But sorry to say....no amount of commercials will make the PS3 sell, nor is showing off its multimedia capabilities.

Its the GAMES that matter. The name PLAYSTATION is synonymous with GAMES.

No Games....No PS3 sales. And now that MGS4 is delayed even more (along with almost every cross-platform game lately it seems), and still no real unified Online experience and no Achievements system.....good luck next year.

If it's cross-platform....you go 360 if you have both. Its just a fact. GOTTA HAVE ACHIEVEMENTS!!!

I can't think of a single MUST HAVE Exclusive game for PS3 this Holiday Season that I gotta have. SINGSTAR does not count.....and it'll be delayed anyway.

Gotta disagree with you Goonie. I was having lunch with a few coworkers today when the short version of the commercial aired, and immediately two of them started talking about how they're buying the 40GB version tomorrow (we were recently outsourced and are getting our sick-leave buyouts tomorrow). For one of them, the must-have game is Uncharted. The other primarily wants it for the Blu-Ray player.

Now they just have to actually buy them...

Smartest thing they did was drop the price and mention it in the add. Dumbest thing...Put in that HOME footage that looked like the Sims 2001. On a side note you Sony losers who say we can "put away the no good games comment"? You will have to refresh my memory, what good games have come out? Lair LOL Warhawk LOL? I mean I'm not sure how many of the games in the add are even out now. Is that GT I saw? I didn't see anything that made me want a PS3. What makes the people on here want a PS3 is the stupid song they played. Kids are dumb that way, rock them out with a song they recognize or like and they somehow feel connected and therefore will spend what it takes to keep that connected feeling going. DON'T BELIEVE THE HYPE.

its good they showed only exclusives too, although we all wish they had more to show.

the 2008 version of this ad should totally rock.

Everyone seems to like the new ads. I'm probably the only one who thinks it makes the PS3 look like a giant ball of screaming obnoxious.

Yeah, I'm just an old man who thinks a PS3 will clash with his tea cozies.

It's not even a Sony dig. Or a dig at all, for that matter. Game console commercials have always been like this: EXTREEEEME!

I must concur... that was a very, very effective commercial. Rather than resorting to confusing, abstract imagery straight out of the Plow King episode of The Simpsons ("Was that your commercial, Homer?" "I don't know!"), they get right down to business and make the Playstation 3 look like it's bursting with gaming goodness. Anyone who actually owns the system knows that this is a total lie, but hey, at least it's a convincing lie!

This reminds me very much of the tone of the original Playstation ads -- the ones that shocked everyone. What? A big consumer manufacturer making a game console that won't suck? Impossible!

It's about time Sony got back to their roots. Hell, the original Playstation came with a demo disk chock full of playable software. The PS3 came with a freakin' movie!

But then, it usually takes a year for any console to come together. Maybe now some developers will reconsider working with the platform, and I'll feel better about my shiny (actually, a bit too shiny) 60GB.

Using Saliva for the song you say? Did Sony hire someone who used to put the entrance videos together for the WWE recently? I was waiting for Randy Orton or The Game to suddenly show up.

But the music not withstanding, it is nice to see that type of branding, instead of that white room fiasco from last year. The marketing people talking about how successful it was, is kind of like a guy in a locker room talking about losing his virginity. Sure it seemed like a good idea on paper, but in the end, that was the most unmemorable 30 seconds of his life. Or at least he hopes so.
