It depends on what res you run at, if you play at low res, you dont need psycho hardware, but to play at 1920x1200 (I) need my 8800gtx.
Also, the nvidia drivers released for the demo are beta, and the final game will probably have more optimisation, so the performance should be better in the final game.

I guess I make up 10% of that population. Turn everything on, 1280x1024 resolution and 4X FSAA running butter smooth.

the demo kept hiccuping every 20 secs or so on me, but the powers were great (especially invis). I couldn't find any trees that could be knocked down even with 5 super punches though, wtf. and the graphics looked pretty bad, like worse than far cry

Wow, I wasn't really all that interested in this game previously (I hadn't spent a lot of time trying to find info on it because I know my PC can't run it) but this little trailer does leave me intrigued. It's crazy short, but it gets across just enough- like now I want to know what the hell doesn't want them there and I want to blow some shit up in the process to find out!

It turns out, someone had a hand in screwing the XP users: http://blogs.pcworld.com/gameon/archives/005814.html
After "cracking" the game, my computer (I use XP) managed to run the demo PERFECTLY on max settings. No lag etc.
No need for vista.

I spent a good portion of money and time making sure my rig was ready for Crysis. It ran the demo perfectly. Can't wait for the full version :D

Ain't that how most (read: all) game trailers like that nowadays?

Let me explain to those who do not know what Crysis is like.... exactly like Farcry....with a few exceptions...
you have a couple of useful but very time limited powers: cloak, strength, speed. Other than that it looks and plays just like Farcry....

Not really.
Some parts of the game may play similarly to Far Cry, but I assure you once you continue on into the game, it becomes a very different experience.

There's a multiplayer beta... and the cry engine2 level editor comes with the demo. So you can play with any of the weapons, and make your own maps, or alter the one from the demo. So yeah, lots of people have played more than the demo.

That was a seriously underwhelming commercial. :(
I wish they would've done something more classy and awesome rather than a run-of-the-mill generic FPS trailer.

Honest question: who's an actual PC gamer on the joystiq staff?
Definitely a terrible commercial. No class, and frankly didn't show off any of the games amazing facets. Its a generic advertisement for what is anything but a run of the mill game.

yeah, they should've just played the opening movie from the game, which shows off the suit's powers

I agree. That commercial actually lessened my excitement for the game. It looks VERY generic in that commercial. Honestly though, I've had doubts anyway. It really does seem like it's just a new Far Cry with a prettier face. But instead of getting your powers via drugs/genetic enhancements, they come in the form of a suit.

oh, and I tried that dirext9 hacking stuff for XP that someone linked earlier, then ran the demo on medium settings, except low shaders and sounds and shadows. It kept freezing for a second or 2 when I got near an enemy (as it loaded the guy) but it looked better than last time (when I just had all settings on low) and when it wasn't freezing for loads, it ran okay
then when I quit, i checked this:

Er, it should only look better on high settings, as you aren't actually changing medium.

ah, well i doubt my comp can handle the high settings, but I guess I'll give it a try
also I finally found a tree I could punch, it only works on the dinky like 3" diameter ones :(

People maybe turn off from this game due to the high requirements but I have a x1600 and play at 1280x640 with everything low except medium shadow and medium texture which makes it looks ok and playable. O and im running on a laptop that is an AMD Turion 2.0ghz and 1gig of ram. If you guys play the demo and thought it was ok you have yet to check out a edit form of the demo that someone did and you get to use the nuke tank and see and actual nuke explosion in real time. Fun stuff but not so good with it kills you...

My CPU is a 3600 running stock and the game looks plenty rad, its not the CPU that matters that much, its your videocard, I always shudder when I see comments like 'really? a 3800 runs it?' Well duh, its not like anything is limited by ppls CPUs in gaming, games are about visuals, not calculating the human genome. Thats why the PS3 is such a crappy design, they put far more r&d and expense into the cell than the RSX, and its a horrible balance for gaming, but it will be great when folding@home cures cancer. To bad you wanted to play games with it. I have a puter I gave my son that doesnt even meet the minimum cpu spec for HL2 but runs it great cuz its got a video card that most ppl assume would be a waste to match with a 1GHZ PIII.
I also am quite amused that the very high spec lockout for XP is pure bs, thank god gamers got inventive and fooled the system, all of you who ran out and blew 800 bucks on Vista and a DX10 card after looking at crysis footage are idiots, especially when I saw comments like 'gotta get a 8800 and Vista' and it turns out the footage they were looking at was from before they implemented dx10, suckers. Looks like Carmack was right, theres no compelling reason to go with Vista over XP for gaming, what a pack of lies MS has perpetrated on you fools. If you were smart you would have waited at least for Crysis to come out to go blow that money, sure I'd like to be playing Bioshock at 90fps but do I really need to? And now we find its just a lot of bs, Halo 2 and shadowrun requiring DX10? DX10 required for the 'very high' setting on Crysis? Sure, and Ive got some miracle tonic to sell ya, cures everything.

Looks decent. Now start working on the console versions (the ones that people can actually play)
