It would have been nice if they put the effort from making the TV guide into something creative. Like...I don't know... SOME GAMES!!!

Would it kill Nintendo to release more than 2 hardcore games a year. I guess they realised they no longer have to since the Wii pretty much will sell on shit games alone.

I know I'm going to get [-]'d for sating this but its true. Why try and make your system look better with games and new and innovative feature when people will just buy it up because it's the popular thing. To much success makes a company lazy and a refusal to populate their systems with good software or good features.

I once considered myself a Nintendo fanboy, then I got a PS2. The PS2 made me realize how much I was missing out with just Nintendo Systems.

Nintendo is about on par with other publishers for releasing games. How many "hardcore" games does Capcom, Namco or Sega release a year?
About as many as Nintendo.
Add it up.

"I once considered myself a Nintendo fanboy, then I got a PS2. The PS2 made me realize how much I was missing out with just Nintendo Systems."

When I bought my PS2, I realized just how good I had it with Nintendo. I can barely count 6 games on that system that I honestly love. And 3 of them came out in the past 12 months.
The Gamecube, by contrast, I have about 17 games that I think are fantastic.

What we are upset with is that Nintendo could be spending money on features that actually matter.

If you wanted an interactive TV guide you can use your cable box, pc, or I could make you a $99 linux PC that can do that and more.

If your an investor, how does this make any sense?? The Wii market is starving for games. Almost any game with the Nintendo label gets bought up like crazy.

You 'no games' decriers are insane. Unless you don't have a job, or a wife, or any kind of job outside of video games, I can't take you seriously. I am working my way through Zak & Wiki, Battalion Wars 2, and Guitar Hero 3, not to mention Fire Emblem: PoR (so I can build up my guys for the new one). In the next few weeks I've got Radiant Dawn, Super Mario Galaxy, MoH 2: Heroes, and for my DS I have to finish Phantom Hourglass, and buy Dementium and Contra 4. WiiDS ftw!

MMMM. This is what I "luv" about the internet. The Wii has been getting alot of love this past week and once it does something supposedly "stupid," everyone turns their back on them, and starts crapping on Nintendo yet again. What's that smell? It's the smell of idiots coming out to play.

Anyways the guide. Meh, it's free so I'll probably use it. If you don't like it, then don't dl it. It's as simple as that.

NATO: Don't try to justify your idiotic ramblings by just saying they're your opinions and then call ME a fanboy because I point out how irrational you're being. If you want your opinions to be respected then support them with good, logical arguments instead of just complaining.

Seriously, do you honestly think this channel took a significant amount of time or manpower to set up? So much so that it's causing Nintendo to draw talent AWAY from video game development? Say that out loud. Does that REALLY sound right to you? How about instead of coming after ME, you keep your irrational, unsupported, childish "opinions" to yourself and let people who engage in responsible debate have the floor. THEN maybe video game forums wouldn't have a reputation for being the asshole of the internet.

I dont see how what I said was idiotic. I supported my thoughts on why it was a bad idea on the first page, under the first posting by someone.

Its a bad idea, whether it takes resourses or not. Its useless, and people will not use it. You don't agree - fine. Show me how it would be useful. Show how it would be a good idea.

As I said before, this site is made for people to discuss the issues in gaming, and I, in discussing it, don't think this idea is a good one. I am sorry that my opinion makes you rant like that, but honestly, you can screw off with giving me such a heavy dose of attitude.

You called me irrational, childish, & idiotic in giving my opinion. That would make YOU the asshole of the internet today as far as I'm concerned. Vegeta - you can throw yourself right in the asshole pile for just wanting to agree with someone for starting a fight, griefer.

The two of you obviously just want to get some attention for flaming - so there it is for you.

If I have anything to be upset about is that Zack and Wiki is taking all of my free time and I want to "break my strap" and have the Wiimote fly through the TV.

the only way i can see this being useful is if it can remind me of shows i wanted to watch while im playing a game. i say that because i have missed shows i wanted to watch because i was so caught up in a game. so if it has a reminder box pop up in the corner while im gaming (like PS3 and im guessing 360 do with messages and stuff) then i see it as pointless. my direcTv guide is all i need.

and people are complaining about it, even though it's free, because they are wasting time on pointless channels when they could be developing something a little more worthwhile.

People who are saying Nintendo wasted resources to release this, think about it. How many art directors, music directors, and code grunts were harmed in the production of this channel?

Maybe 4 or 5. Hardly ruining the potential of another core game.

You know, actually I could really use this. The TV Guide Channel has since moved to digital, beyond my cable service, and Media Center is slow as hell booting up, so I hate using that guide. And I rarely use newspaper guides or TV Guide itself, as print doesn't adjust for games that run long, or changes in scheduling. Not to mention it's nice to have a guide where you always know where to find it: on the Wii.

Mr. Khan, there's nothing worth watching on basic cable that you can't get more of with highspeed internet and a big ass antenna.

Then you can save yourself 50 bucks a month. Thats an extra wii game every month for ditching cable.

I don't know about you guys but Time Warner's Extended basic cable, which is about 65 channels is boxless and has no interactive guide. There are lot of people that

1.Don't have cable
2.Has cable but it doesn't require a box
3.Doesn't have a cable box on all their tvs

Personally if I didn't just get digital cable on would be loving a service like this. For me Nintendo succeded in the idea of having the be like another tv channel. It is just about always on and accessable to me with a click of tv remote like all my other tv channels.

Wait, just checking, you don't have anything else of substance to add? Like maybe a good reason as to why you should be so ridiculouslt angry about this? Ah well.

Yeah, sure the channel's kind of useless for most people-- I doubt I'll be using it much, if at all-- but I certainly don't see the need for everyone to act like this is anything more than just a neat little feature that will please people who want to use it. Any reaction beyond that just tells you me you're WAY too into this stuff.

Back to NATO: How is it a bad idea, though? Expand on that concept. You just said no one will use it. But why? *Support your argument.* I could say millions of people will use it, but that's just as baseless of a claim as yours. I didn't call YOU idiotic or childish, just your comments. Which they were.

More on that: I REALLY hate it when people act like all opinions are equal. They're not. There are well supported opinions and poorly supported opinions. Yours was one of the former, and when I pointed out, you tried to hide behind the fact that opinions are subjective, and then labeled me as a fanboy because I wanted more out of the people acting like this is some huge mistake, which is rather childish and immature in its mistaken notion on the scope of the channel.

Forums shouldn't be for just trading opinions, they should be for trading *well-developed* opinions. Don't just make a claim, support it! I think this channel is just as unnecessary as you do, but I'm not getting pissy about it because I recognize the fact that it's a very small project that's most likely going to have no significant impact, positive or negative. It's just a diversion for the people that do decide its useful.

Your reply was much better, but I want more out of you. Don't get mad at me for defending myself, realize that in order to hold a worthwhile debate you're going to have to do more than call people fanboys. It doesn't work like that.

Thank you, Crono!

Now, you're right. You're spot on, actually. I just don't think it's all THAT bad. Look at the internet channel. People enjoy messing around with it despite the fact their computer has a far better browser. I'm just trying to present the case that despite this being unnecessary, it's certainly not a tragic misstep or anything. As someone else pointed out, they probably had like 4 or 5 people tops working on this for a while. If you ask me, the Everybody Votes channel is even more useless, although people still do get a kick of out checking in on it every once in a while.

I think your point about not having to switch back between inputs/channels with a normal guide is the best one. And that's the primary reason I wouldn't use it. Still, I can see how someone who doesn't have digital cable or satellite, with their built in programs, could see this as being useful if maybe they wanted to check when a certain show is on. Of course, I don't know if Japanese TV has some sort of equivalent to our TVGuide Channel.

Like I explained in my first post - it’s a bad idea because it is redundant of what most cable and satellite systems offer users. There they can see a show, read about it, and click to watch it - without the need to start a second machine, review what's on, then go back to the TV to actually view it. That's why the option seems pointless to me.

I like my Wii, when I use it, but feel they really are not using the channels very well right now. I imagine they are stretching for new ideas to put it to use, but this one doesn't hit the mark as a functional feature to encourage turning the unit on. I don’t think many people will apply this service to their daily lives.

Now, I may find some value in it if they added a function for people to leave comments on the shows, and share thoughts on whether they are worthy of watching - but minus that kind of addition to the normal service most of us have, it offers no true improvement on the already existent approach to TV guides.

As far as posting- the system here is a little goofy. When you go to reply you have to make sure it says replying to______(name) or else it goes to the bottom of the list. It often will take a second clink of the correct reply post to get it where you want. We all get screwed with by it.

Yes, and simply realize that its OBVIOUS why nobody will use this because anybody with cable or satellite already HAS one, and anyone with a digital tuner already HAS one, and by 2009 (in the US) EVERYONE will either have digital cable, digital satellite, or digital antenna; ALL of which come with guides exactly like this, only better because you can actually WATCH what the guide is telling you is on without changing channels/switching devices.

I live in a small town, we don't have over the air broadcasts at all (even with a huge roof antenna). We got a deal on analog cable, and digital is way overpriced with our Charter, our cable company. If they do this right it could actually come in handy, as my wife and I sometimes have to look crap up online ant that gets somewhat annoying. Searching by genre and actor is pretty interesting too.... We will see if it comes stateside.

That being said, I find it weird coming to the Wii...

Or they can just turn on the TV and to hell with the Wii. I bought a Wii just to spin the globe (cool), watch the game slot glow blue occasionally (quite annoying), make Mii (wow), and vote (no winner). Now this. Was there even a request for this. IPTV sounds great, but this comes up well short of usefullness. How about something worth while, like the Movie channel? You pop in a DVD movie and start watching it.

I think the Wii is a fun system, but I am sorry, any Wii TV or downloadable movie service would be like Fisher Price Cable Service.
